25 years after 9/11 documents reveal Saudi elite and Saudi Charities like Al Haramain Islamic Foundation, GRF, BIF, and MIOA funding for Al-Qaeda
Al Haramain Islamic Foundation supported al-Qaeda and is linked to Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs (Imams) before 9/11 headed by Sheikh Saleh Al al-Sheikh. Contrary to public opinion, Bin Ladin did not have access to any significant amounts of personal wealth (particularly after his move from Sudan to Afghanistan) and did not personally fund al Qaeda, either through an inheritance or businesses he owned in Sudan. Rather, al Qaeda relied on diversions from Islamic charities like Al Haramain Islamic Foundation, Al-Barakaat, Global Relief Foundation, Inc. (GRF), and Benevolence International Foundation (BIF), and on well-placed financial facilitators in the MIOA who gathered money from both witting and unwitting donors, primarily in the Gulf region. This was all investigated back in late 2001 into all of 2002 and part of 2003 by U.S. Customs Service and the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) that became U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on March 1, ...
