California state oil & gas records at Cal-Gem indicate two deep, historical wildcatter oil & gas wells lie beneath Ladera Ranch, California—one drilled to roughly 8,365 feet down near/under Merriweather Place at  Poets Park in 1961, and another one drilled down to about 4,350 feet on Citrus Lane in 1921 . These old subterranean wells trace back to exploratory drilling before the master-planned community was carved out of Rancho Mission Viejo in 1998.
