Smith & Wesson - Rossi - Taurus .38 Caliber Revolvers My Choice For Self Defense Weapon CCW in 2024

Classic lines and reliability have made revolvers a solid self-defense option throughout the years, and modern revolvers remain viable options for protection. If you are unsure of whether a revolver is right for you, we have a whole article on revolvers vs. semi-autos. But if you are already keen on the idea of carrying a wheelgun, keep reading to check out some of my favorites. Smith & Wesson - Rossi - Taurus .38 Caliber Revolvers My Choice For Self Defense Weapons. In 1997, Rossi became part of the Braztech empire, which includes fellow Brazilian manufacturer Taurus. Smith & Wesson J-Frame revolvers have had your back since 1950.

These small revolvers were designed to fire a full power round and are as simple and easy to use as they are reliable. Available in various calibers and with three diverse hammer designs, it is no surprise that the Smith & Wesson J-Frame has become the most popular, small-frame, defense revolver on the market. The Model 642 is a variation of the Model 42 Centennial Airweight® that integrates the time-tested features of the original with modern advancements.

The history of Smith & Wesson began in 1856 (pre-civil war) in Springfield, Massachusetts, after Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson sold their original company. Because the patent on the Colt revolver was set to expire, Wesson began to develop a new cartridge revolver. Wesson began to develop a new cartridge revolver. In 1860 orders for the Smith & Wesson Model 1 revolver outpaced the factory's production capabilities. During the Civil War soldiers from all ranks on both sides made private purchases of the revolvers for self-defense. After the war, Smith & Wesson developed arms for the American frontier.

S&W switched focus from pocket-sized revolvers to large frame revolvers using heavier caliber cartridges (such as the .44 S&W American). This new design, the Smith & Wesson Model 3, was adopted by the US Army as the first cartridge-firing revolver in US service. In 1899 Smith & Wesson introduced its most widely used revolver, the .38 Military & Police (also known as the Smith & Wesson Model 10).

The Smith & Wesson Model 10 became the standard sidearm of American police officers for much of the 20th century, with more than 6 million produced. An additional one million of these guns were made for the US Military during World War II.
