UPDATE: Sat May 25 ,2024 ANOTHER SHOOTING IN NEWTOWN. Sarasota Police are investigating a shooting that occurred around 10 p.m. Friday May 24th 2024 near the 2800 block of North Lemon Avenue, Newtown section of Sarasota Fl. One adult victim was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. This is an open and active investigation. It is believed to be an isolated incident. The public is not in danger. No further information can be shared at this time. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call our non-emergency line at 941-316-1199. First gunshots appear to get attention of crowd at 3:11:16am on Saturday May 18th 2024. Everyone in photo above is looking to the left in the photo. Battie brothers involved in a gunfight. Brian Battie was shot in the head and was critically injured. His brother Tommie suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the site of the shooting. Shooting appears too take place to the left in photo above, to the left of the big food truck, people looking directly in that direction. According to a Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, security footage showed Darryl Bernard Brookins Jr leaning against the window of a nearby business. The Battie brothers walked toward him and that was when deputies said Brookins fired a gun at them. The Battie Brothers returned fire and each fell to the ground. Darryl Bernard Brookins Jr's car was found abandoned in the parking lot where the shooting occurred. Photo still from ABC7 News video.

SARASOTA, Fla. - Darryl Bernard Brookins Jr, DOB 04/10/1996, is a Newtown drug dealer, cocaine is his specialty, Darryl Brookins Jr did 2 years in the Florida prison system on a 2017 cocaine conviction out in 2019. A Sarasota man was arrested Wednesday May 22nd, afternoon in a deadly shooting over the weekend that left Auburn University's Brian Battie critically injured and his brother Tommie L. Battie IV (10/3/1999) dead, according to deputies, both Battie brothers were armed and returned fir. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office says 28-year-old Darryl Bernard Brookins Jr was taken into custody with the help of the U.S. Marshals Task Force. Brookins was charged with murder, attempted murder, and as a felon in possession of a firearm, according to law enforcement. The sheriff's office says he will be booked into the Sarasota County Correctional Facility. Darryl B. Brookins Jr currently has two pending felony charges in Manatee County for sexual battery. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office Crimes Against Children Unit began an investigation into Brookins after a 17-year-old family member said she was assaulted by him when he was 27 years old. After he was arrested for sexual battery, investigators began receiving calls from other victims who said they also were sexually assaulted, including another family member who was 18 years old at the time of the assault, court records said. Brookins would've been 25 years old at the time of the second reported assault.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 3400 block of 17th Street early Saturday morning May 18, it happened at a business named Hookah Lounge Marrakech (after hours bottle club - BYOB). Deputies initially responded to the Tallywood Centre Plaza on 17th Street Sarasota at approximately 3:11am where they observed a large crowd with multiple shooting victims in the parking lot. According to Sarasota County sheriff deputies, the shooting took place at 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

According to its website, the Hookah Lounge Marrakech's (after hours bottle club - BYOB) normal closing time is 5 a.m. Friday and Saturday. One victim, Tommie L. Battie IV (10/3/1999), was pronounced deceased at the scene, his brother Brian Battie also shot (in head) is on life support. Four additional victims were transported to local hospitals in both Manatee and Sarasota counties. There is no further update on any of the other victim’s conditions. Tommie L. Battie IV (10/3/1999) was known to carry a gun, he has prior arrest for carrying a concealed handgun. Was this shooting some sort of payback for the Battie brothers on May 18th 2024? Three months ago, back on Feb 2nd, 2024, Terrell Battie, 28, was arrested in the shooting murder of Brittany M. Dixon following an argument outside their residence in the Newtown section of Sarasota Fl.

 

TERRELL BATTIE NEWTOWN MURDER ARREST: Feb 2nd 2024, Terrell Battie, 28, DOB 04/18/1995, arrested. Sarasota County sheriff's deputies say they're investigating a homicide and made an arrest. Deputies responded to North Lockwood Meadows Boulevard (off of MLK Blvd) in Newtown section of Sarasota after reports of a shooting about 4:10 p.m. Friday. They arrested Terrell Battie, 28, suspecting him of shooting Brittany M. Dixon following an argument outside the residence. Dixon, 36, was unresponsive from an apparent gunshot wound outside the residence. Dixon was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital but ultimately died from her injuries, deputies said. "Battie was taken into custody at the scene and charged with murder without premeditation," SCSO said in a news release. "He was subsequently transported to the Sarasota County Correctional Facility without incident. This case remains under investigation."

UPDATE MURDER SUSPECT ARRESTED: The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting at North Jetty Park in Nokomis just after 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 19. They found one victim, who was later pronounced deceased at the scene. North Jetty Park will be closed on Monday, May 20, while the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Section is on the scene. Franklin Roosevelt Raybon Jr. (9/14/01), of Port Charlotte, surrendered himself to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office Tuesday afternoon. Raybon has been identified as the sole suspect in the shooting of Octavius Cornelius Lee Cummings Jr. (1/23/99) that occurred at the North Jetty Park in Nokomis on Sunday evening. Sheriff's deputies initially responded to a reported shooting at the North Jetty Park on Casey Key Rd. in Nokomis at approximately 7:16 p.m., Sunday, and found Octavius Cornelius Lee Cummings Jr. (1/23/99) of Port Charlotte, deceased. It is believed the shooting was the result of an altercation between both men at the park. Raybon has been charged with second-degree murder and an additional charge of attempted felony murder for firing at another person near the victim; however, that person was not struck. He has been booked into the Sarasota County Correctional Facility. This is Sarasota County's third shooting death since Thursday, May 16, when a 28-year-old man was killed near the intersection of 31st Street and Osprey Avenue. 

UPDATE, TEENAGE KILLERS CAUGHT: Sarasota Police arrested Tujuan Byrd, 15, N. Orange Ave Newtown, and Ladarius Goodman-Mills, 14, Newtown, in connection with a homicide near the intersection of 31st St and Osprey Ave, Newtown section of Sarasota Fl. Tujuan Byrd, 15, N. Orange Ave Newtown has a current criminal case in Sarasota County, "No Valid Drivers License and Grand Theft Auto". A 28-year-old male was shot shortly after 10 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024, and died from his injuries. Both juveniles are charged with murder. PRIOR UNSOLVED MURDER NEWTOWN: The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is continuing a death investigation in connection with a shooting that occurred Thursday night, March 14, 2024 in the area of the 2400 block of 23rd Street in Newtown section of Sarasota Fl. Witnesses described several subjects fleeing the area around the time the shots were heard. A red four-door sedan was seen leaving the vicinity at approximately the same time. At 8:11 a.m. Friday, deputies were alerted to a dead body found in the same area as last night's shooting. The male victim has been identified as DeShawn Mitchell, 19, of Newtown section of Sarasota. Who shot DeShawn Mitchell?

Everybody knows who did it, but No Snitchin in Newtown. 22nd Street has been location of many shootings and the unsolved murder of Travis Combs on Aug 28th, 2017. Travis Combs was found with one large caliber gunshot wound to the upper torso in a grassy lot in the 1600 block of 22nd Street, possibly from a .40 caliber pistol. Newtown sex offender Reggie Parker witnessed the Travis Combs murder on 22nd Street by 3 known Newtown thugs, 2 ran away on Palmadelia Avenue and 1 stole Combs car and burned it. Jabez Spann also witnessed the murder, he lived nearby in the 1500 block of 23rd Street. Jabez Spann was kidnapped and murdered in 2017 "dead men tell no tales", life in the Newtown hood ends early. UPDATE: Sex offender Reginald Parker was released form prison in Florida on Feb 4th, 2022 and has SUPPOSEDLY moved out of state to Macon GA at 1448 Berkner Ave.

Another NEWTOWN CASE UPDATE: Johnny D. Evans, DOB 12/20/1999, has been arrested in Greenville, Mississippi, in connection to the shooting death of a man on January 6, 2022, in front of Moore's Grocery in the 1900 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Way, Sarasota. The name of the victim is being withheld under Marsy’s Law. Evans was arrested by the United States Marshals Service on Friday, February 25, 2022, in Mississippi. Evans was returned to Sarasota to face murder charges in connection to this investigation. Johnny Evans, 23, Sarasota, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 35 years in prison in a Sarasota County courtroom on July 24, 2023. Evans convicted in 2023 of 2nd Degree Murder gets 35 years in prison and as of May 2024 he is appealing his murder conviction, WTH?
