TORONTO ON -- Two foreign students have been arrested in connection with what police say is a massive fraud operation ("Santa's Little Sweepstakes Scam) that involved forged cheques, mail scams and identity theft.Charges of extortion and threatening death have also been laid against one suspect, who is alleged to have threatened a bank employee to obtain information used in the scam,

Durham (TORONTO SUBURB) police said. It's alleged one of the suspects managed to withdraw $115,000 from a business account using information obtained from an employee at a Pickering bank. The information was provided after the employee was threatened with death, cops said.

Durham (Toronto suburb) fraud officers launched an investigation based on information provided by TD Corporate Security and on Jan. 15 executed a search warrant at a Toronto residence.

During the search cops uncovered evidence of a sophisticated counterfeit cheque operation (Nigerian scammers sent a "Santa's Little Sweepstakes Scam letter sent to PI bill Warner in Sarasota Fl), including thousands of blank business cheques and high-end printers.

Saturday, December 20, 2008, NATIONWIDE REGIONS BANK SCAM, THE FIRST COUNTERFEIT CHECK CAME TO THE PO BOX OF SARASOTA PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR BILL WARNER, BIG MISTAKE ! I, Bill Warner, went to the Regions Bank on Cattlemen Rd in Sarasota Fl on Thursday, 12/18/08 at 2:00 pm and told them I knew of the check fraud scam and I had a counterfeit check drawn on "their Regions business account" and that there were no stops on it, so you better get yourself in gear and shut this scam down right now because I am sure you are going to be flooded with counterfeit checks in the next few hours, it appears they did and they were.

Sweet deal for "Santa's Little Sweepstakes Scam" and Nicolas Stern the listed Claims Director in Toronto ON, they collect $1,800.00 from each person who follows their directions, the "patsy" keeps $1,7550.00 and Regions Bank would have paid out hundreds of thousands of dollars that is not going to be collectible.

Checks were sent out by"Santa's Little Sweepstakes" from Toronto on 12/15/2008, I, Bill Warner, got mine at our business PO Box in Sarasota Fl on 12/18/08 at around 10:00 am, for $3,535.00, click on the letter image to enlarge. I have heard of one check received near Cleveland, Ohio for $3,5350.00 and another one in Fort Lauderdale Fl for the same amount of $3,535.00 and a $3,535.00 check was received in the mail today, 12/19/08, in San Bernardino California, all with different check numbers (this is the key).

The check and letter came in an envelope post marked from Toronto CN, the exact address is; C.P. 3020 Station D Etobicoke ON, (near Toronto Intl Airport, see map click here) M9C 4V5.

The phone used to contact "Santa's Little Sweepstakes" 1-438-275-9373 is, of course, an untraceable cell phone (a drop); (438) 275-9373 is a CELLULAR numberPhone Company: BELL MOBILITYLocation: MONTREAL, CN... Copies Sent to the Toronto Police Department and the US Secret Service on 12/20/2008.

Officers also seized dozens of cheques believed to be stolen from the mail along with counterfeit stamps and letters designed to dupe recipients into believing they'd won lottery prizes. Durham officers also discovered personal information on thousands of people across Canada and the United States.

Oluwatosin Olay Sanni, 19, and 22-year-old Ibhade Arebamen, both of Drewry Avenue in Toronto face numerous fraud-related charges. Mr. Sanni is further charged with extortion, two counts of threatening death, attempting to obstruct justice and possession of property obtained by crime.

Both men are Nigerian citizens attending York University on student visas.
Police continue to investigate the men and their activities and would like to hear from anyone who received letters indicating they'd won a lottery prize. Anyone with information is asked to call 905-579-1520, ext. 5228 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
