NYPD and FBI Warn Elevated Threats of Terror Attack at Christmas and New Years Eve 2023 Equal to Chatter Before 9/11

Since 1993 there have been 14 Islamic radical themed terrorist attacks in and around Times Square NYC including the 9/11/2001 terrorist attack, i.e., May 1st 2010, failed SUV car bombing of Times Square, the device failed to detonate and was disarmed after its discovery. Al-Qaeda linked Faisal Shahzad was implicated and arrested two days later.

LAST YEAR, December 2022, Times Square Machete Attack 12/31/2022. Trevor Bickford espoused jihadist views and attempted to kill 3 NYPD officers with a long blade knife just before the stroke of midnight in Times Square, ISIS made me do it! Dec. 31 attack on the three cops, Trevor Bickford approached on Eighth Avenue between 51st and 52nd streets just after 10 p.m.

THIS YEAR, December 2023, New York City Target for Terror Attack at Christmas and New Years Eve, NYPD Bulletin states there is considerable chatter from entities trying to incite followers from different points on the political and ideological spectrum to act out violently.

CBS New York writes December 2023: Escalating violence in Gaza increasing chatter of possible terror attack in New York, intelligence report says. Gov. Kathy Hochul is already taking action to beef up security and increase staffing of the Joint Terrorism Task Force following a new threat assessment by the New York State Intelligence Center that violence in Gaza is driving chatter about targets in New York.

ABC7 NY writes December 2023: The head of the FBI came out with an unsettling warning Tuesday night about the threat of terror in the United States. FBI Director Christopher Wray testified before Congress, saying that he has never seen so many elevated threats all at the same time, and said it hasn't been this bad since the days before Sept 11, 2001. The war in Israel, and the October 7 attack that sparked it, are spurring an unprecedented number of online posts urging terrorist attacks in America. Wray, who took over as director in 2017, said that what made the current climate unique is that "so many of the threats are all elevated at the same time." Wray urged Congress to renew Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which allows the U.S. government to collect without a warrant the communications of targeted foreigners outside the United States. Law enforcement and intelligence officials see the program as vital to combating terror attacks, cyber intrusions, espionage and other foreign threats.
