NYPD Evacuates Times Square After Smoking Nissan Pathfinder SUV With Switched Plates Sparks Car Bomb Investigation At The Corner of 45th Street and 7th Ave.

NY DAILY NEWS...Police evacuated New York's Times Square Saturday night after a dark-colored sports utility vehicle was found to be smoking and a small "flash" was observed by firefighters on the scene.

AL-QAEDA WEBSITE POSTS TODAY….On the night of the operation # Dear AC:They are obligatory / Abu Dijana Khorasani. The suicide bomber who killed seven C.I.A. officers and a Jordanian spy in Khost was a double agent who was taken onto the base in Afghanistan because the Americans hoped he might be able to deliver top members of Al Qaeda’s network was Humam Khalil Mohammed aka Abu Dujana al-Khorasani.

Officers at the Times Square scene said the evacuation order stemmed from an "emergency investigation" and dozens of officers blocked access to the busy central Manhattan square, which is popular with tourists and theater-goers. New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said a NISSAN PATHFINDER had been left in Times Square, with smoke seen coming from it.

There was an unconfirmed report that someone was seen running from the car, Browne said. A bomb squad responded and a small fire was extinguished, he said. "We're just trying to determine if it was anything other than a car fire," said Browne. "We don't know yet if it's anything more than that."

The SUV is parked very close to a production of "The LionKing" on 45th Street. Women in evening gowns were among the crowd on one of the warmest nights of the year and the busiest night of the week for Broadway theaters in the area, a man was reported seen running from the SUV.  more from this source.............

NY TIMES...Police officials said a witness reported a running Nissan Pathfinder with Connecticut plates, with smoke coming out of the back. A bomb squad robot popped the back latch of the Pathfinder, and officers found what they initially believed was a bomb. The vehicle was found to contain explosives, gasoline, propane and burned wires, a Fire Department officer told Reuters.

The officer, who did not give his name because he was not authorized to speak to the news media, said that a man was seen fleeing the S.U.V. and that the police evacuated the area in case there were other threats nearby. The license plates on the Nissan were registered to a Ford F-150, the police said.

NY POST....Times Sq. panic after car carrying gunpowder, gasoline found on fire.  Times Square was shut down for several hours tonight after what cops feared was a bomb was found inside a smoking vehicle with bogus license plates parked in front of a Broadway theater — sending frantic people racing for safety to nearby restaurants and stores, authorities said.

Pedestrians spotted the smoldering Nissan Pathfinder at 6:30 p.m. on West 45th Street near Seventh Avenue, directly in front of an entrance to the Minskoff Theatre, which houses the hugely popular "The Lion King." The car’s Connecticut license plates were actually registered to a Ford F-150.

When the Fire Department arrived, they heard what "sounded like fireworks" going off so they called the NYPD’s Bomb Squad and Emergency Service Unit, sources said. "It just looked like more than a typical car fire," a source said. Several staffers in the Minskoff told The Post they heard an explosion, more from this source........

The frantic situation in Times Square was reminiscent of the Denzel Washington movie "The Siege" where Muslim radicals plant bombs all over New York City and in one scenario bomb a Broadway Play.

Two Men Charged With Giving Support to Al-Qaeda, Wesam El-Hanafi and Sabirhan Hasanoff Arrested They Had Purchased Mujahideen Secrets 2 To Communicate Securely With Other Terrorists On The Internet.

U.S. v. El-Hanafi and Hasanoff, 10-cr-162, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York (Manhattan). Two men who formerly lived in Brooklyn, New York, were charged with supporting al-Qaeda, including providing computer advice and currency.

The indictment against Wesam El-Hanafi and Sabirhan Hasanoff, handed up by a federal grand jury in Manhattan, was unsealed today. "These two New Yorkers, who allegedly pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda, will now be held to account for their actions," U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara in New York said in a statement.

El-Hanafi, 33, and Hasanoff, 34, "would and did agree to provide al-Qaeda with, among other things, computer advice and assistance, services and currency, knowing that al-Qaeda had engaged and was engaging in terrorist activity," according to the indictment. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

Victor Knapp, a lawyer for El-Hanafi, said in a phone interview that both men appeared in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia today and will probably be brought to New York to appear in court there next week.  New Yorkers; El-Hanafi is a U.S. citizen who was born in Brooklyn, according to the statement. Hasanoff is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Australia. El-Hanafi later accepted an oath of allegiance on behalf of al-Qaeda from a co-conspirator who isn't named in the indictment and from whom Hasanoff had previously received $50,000, according to the indictment.

El-Hanafi also "purchased a subscription for a software program that enabled him to communicate securely with others over the Internet (Mujahideen Secrets 2)," according to the indictment.

Software designed specifically to aid Muslim terrorists hide their identities and location while online has been released in an updated version, according to security analyst Paul Henry of Secure Computing. He says the program is named Mujahideen Secrets 2, and claims it is "the first Islamic program for secure communications through networks with the highest technical level of encoding."  The software wass available free at the password-protected website, a destination frequently carrying al-Qaida messages, and is an updated version of the Mujahideen Secrets program that was released in early 2007 by the Global Islamic Media Front, an al-Qaida-linked Internet organization.

The website that was hosted in Tampa Fl was shut down by Sarasota Private Investigator Bill Warner.  "Mujahideen Secrets 2 is designed to allow mujahedeen encrypted communication online using elaborate algorithms and symmetrical and asymmetrical encryption keys," said Eli Alshech, director of the Jihad and Terrorism Studies Project for the Middle East Media Research Institute, a think tank based in Washington.  The program, Alshech says, "shows their improved level of sophistication."

'Performed Tasks';  In April 2009, El-Hanafi bought seven Casio digital watches (for time bombs) over the Internet on behalf of al-Qaeda and had them delivered to his Brooklyn residence, according to the indictment and Bharara's statement.

United States intelligence officials have identified the Casio F91W as a watch that terrorists use when constructing time bombs. This association was highlighted in the Denbeaux study, and may have been used in some cases at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp. An article published in the Washington Post in 1996 reported that Abdul Hakim Murad, Wali Khan Amin Shah, and Ramzi Ahmed Yousef, all Al-Qaeda agents, had developed techniques to use commonly available Casio digital watches to detonate time bombs.

In August 2008, Hasanoff traveled to New York City, where he "performed tasks for al-Qaeda," according to the indictment.  Al-Qaeda, led by Osama bin Laden, took credit for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, more from this source............

Foreclosure Mill's Revenue Skyrockets Law Offices of David J. Stern Revenue Has Multiplied Sixfold But Judge Lynn Tepper Says Stern Law Office Presented Falsified Mortgage Documents.

TAMPA TRIBUNE  MICHAEL SASSO, Foreclosure mill's revenue skyrockets, Published: April 22, 2010.  TAMPA - The housing crisis has been good for Florida's biggest processor of foreclosure lawsuits: Its revenue has multiplied sixfold since the housing bust began.

In recent years, the Law Offices of David J. Stern, a Broward County-based foreclosure law firm, has become the largest filer of foreclosure suits in Florida. It also is the biggest filer in Hillsborough County, according to local court records.

Along the way, though, it has picked up critics across Florida for the factorylike way it removes homeowners from homes. One circuit court judge in Pasco County recently accused the law firm of fraudulently backdating a mortgage document.

Stern's law firm isn't alone. Across the country, the unprecedented housing bust and backlog of foreclosures have turned specialty law offices such as Stern's into efficient paper processors called "foreclosure mills." In Stern's case, he's grown so large that he recently spun off part of his foreclosure law firm into a publicly traded company.

In January, Stern separated his firm's lawyers from the back-office clerks that prepare foreclosure paperwork, research title documents and do other duties that don't require a lawyer's touch. This back-office staff now is called DJSP Enterprises and trades on the Nasdaq-GM stock exchange.

PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR BILL WARNER BROKE THE STERN NASDAQ STORY, Tuesday, March 30, 2010, NASDAQ, DJSP Enterprises Major Shareholders David J. Stern (Law office Foreclosure Mill) and Kerry S. Propper Subject of Department of Justice Investigation And SBA Law Suit.   Foreclosure Mill Law office of David J. Stern is now DJSP Enterprises, Inc. "DJSP" (David J. Stern Processing)...their revenues increased from approximately $116 million in 2007 to an estimated $259 million in 2009; EBITDA adjusted on a pro forma basis increased from approximately $44 million in 2007 to an estimated $68 million in 2009; Net Income adjusted on a pro forma basis increased from approximately $28 million in 2007 to an estimated $43 million in 2009.

For the six months ended June 30, 2009, the company, DJSP Enterprises, generated revenue of approximately $117 million, EBITDA adjusted on a pro forma basis of approximately $35 million and net income adjusted on a pro forma basis of approximately $22 million.  So how does the 'foreclosure mill" of the David J. Stern law office net $49 miilion in 2009 when they bid on and obtain "bundles" of foreclosures from Wells Fargo Bank or Deutsche Bank and process's each foreclosure for a flat fee of $1,400 which covers the cost of an associate attorney, processing, service of complaint, office help etc.? I know for a fact that the cost of processing a Foreclosure Complaint has increased since 12th Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Lee Haworth stopped Attorneys "calling in" on Foreclosure Complaints in Feb. 2009 and forced Stern Associates to actually drive from Plantation Fl to Bradenton or Sarasota to appear in person.

It's separate from Stern's law practice, but Stern still is chairman and chief executive officer of DJSP Enterprises, and Stern's law practice relies on DJSP to process all its paperwork and handle its real estate duties. Because it is publicly traded, DJSP must file financial reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission. These reports provide a glimpse into Stern's foreclosure empire.

According to DJSP Enterprises' recent annual financial report, the back-office operation had profit of about $44.6 million in 2009 on revenue of $260.3 million. That means the company's revenue increased sixfold as the foreclosure crisis worsened. In 2006, the company reported profit of $8.6 million on revenue of $40.4 million, its recent SEC report states.

The SEC report does not include financial information for Stern's separate law practice, which is not publicly traded and does not report its financial information.  DJSP's chief financial officer, Kumar Gursahaney, confirmed the amount of his company's profit and revenue in the SEC report. Stern could not be reached for comment.

Today, the company processes more than 5,800 foreclosure files a month and more than 70,000 a year on behalf of the Law Offices of David J. Stern, its SEC filing states. As of Dec. 31, the company had 950 employees and offices in Plantation and Louisville, Ky. It also outsourced work to the Philippines.

DJSP Enterprises' stock closed at $13.45 a share on Wednesday. Locally, DJSP Enterprises and Stern's law practice handle the most foreclosure cases in Hillsborough County. The Tribune looked at 1,994 initial foreclosure documents filed in October to see which foreclosure firms were the busiest.

Stern's office filed 352 cases in Hillsborough County that month, beating out second-place finisher Florida Default Law Group of Tampa, which filed 323 cases.  Even with its business boom, companies such as DJSP and its chief customer, the Law Offices of David J. Stern, are picking up more critics lately.

Dubbed "foreclosure mills," these firms are known for steering foreclosure lawsuits through the court system as efficiently as possible. They often charge a cut-rate price to their banking and mortgage-servicing clients, typically about $1,200 for a foreclosure. Most of the legwork of filing lawsuits is handled by clerks and paralegals rather than lawyers.

The Wall Street Journal wrote last week that Tepper accused Stern's law firm and a banking client of submitting a fraudulent document in a foreclosure case.  According to the article, the judge found Stern's office presented a mortgage document with a falsified notary stamp. In an interview with the Tribune on Monday, Tepper said it appeared the document had been backdated to give a bank legal standing to foreclose on a home.

"This isn't a clerical error," the judge said. "It wasn't a mistake. A notary isn't supposed to notarize that someone swore an instrument in front of them if, in fact, they didn't sign it in front of them."  In a roundabout way, a significant investor in DJSP Enterprises appears to be the U.S. government.
When the Wall Street crisis hit, the government bailed out insurance giant AIG. The government remains the company's biggest investor. According to the Bloomberg business news service, AIG owns stock in DJSP Enterprises worth about $4.6 million through a mutual fund, MORE FROM THIS SOURCE........

Paperwork Puts Foreclosure Firm Florida Default Law Group In Hot Seat But They're Not the Only Ones Says Judge, David J. Stern Law Office Leads The Way In Florida Foreclosures.

SARASOTA HERLAD TRIBUNE APRIL 30th, 2010.....The Florida Attorney General's office is investigating whether one of the state's largest foreclosure firms is using fabricated or misleading documents to retake properties. The civil investigation into Florida Default Law Group in Tampa became public on the Attorney General's website Thursday, stating that it appears the firm presents faulty bank paperwork in thousands of foreclosures each month.

"These documents have been presented in court before judges as actual assignments of mortgages and have later been shown to be legally inadequate and/or insufficient," the website states. The Herald-Tribune first cast light on Florida Default Law Group last year with reporting on foreclosures in Sarasota County, where attorneys for lenders reportedly gave false statements in court about who owns mortgages or whether they have completed all the legal steps to put a foreclosed house back on the market.

You see all these documents time and time again which on their face are not possible," Tampa attorney Matthew Weidner said. "The judges cannot just ignore this. They cannot ignore blatant fraud in front of their faces." The Attorney General's office opened its investigation into Florida Default in October 2009, but it only became public after the target of the investigation was told about it.

The Attorney General can file a lawsuit against the company if it finds wrongdoing, seeking sanctions like fines or injunctions to stop the behavior. Twelfth Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Lee Haworth said news of the investigation could prompt judges in Sarasota and Manatee counties to look more closely at filings

"I would be very skeptical they're the only ones," Haworth said of the Florida Default Law Group investigation. "Our anecdotal experience are it's pretty widespread." MORE FROM THIS SOURCE........

TAMPA TRIBUNE APRIL 30TH, 2010..Attorney general investigating Tampa foreclosure firm.  Based in a business park just off the Veteran's Expressway, Florida Default Law Group files hundreds of foreclosure lawsuits alone in Hillsborough County on behalf of banks and mortgage servicing companies. The Tribune profiled Florida Default Law Group in January.

According to the Tribune's review of 1,994 circuit court records, the firm filed initial legal documents for 323 foreclosure lawsuits in October. That was second only to the Law Offices of David J. Stern, a Broward County-based foreclosure firm that filed 352 foreclosure cases in October. Florida Default Law Group operates in numerous counties in Florida, but it's not clear how many lawsuits it files outside of Hillsborough County.

TAMPA TRIBUNE JAN 3rd 2010.....Law firm gorges on home defaults, Florida Default Law Group and the law offices of David J. Stern in Plantation.  TAMPA - If there's one industry that's not feeling the economy's sting these days, it's the business of filing foreclosure lawsuits.

Recently, mortgage servicing companies have been filing about 2,000 initial foreclosure documents every month in Hillsborough County Circuit Court. To handle the overwhelming caseload, an army of lawyers, paralegals and clerks at big foreclosure law firms have streamlined the art of separating homeowners from their homes.

Few are as large or as efficient as Tampa-based Florida Default Law Group (and the David J. Stern Law office in Plantation), which processes at least 300 new foreclosure suits a month in Hillsborough County, court documents show. By forging relationships with mortgage companies and focusing on volume, Florida Default Law Group offers to foreclose on a home at the bare-bones price of $1,200, about half the typical cost.

In the streamlining, distressed homeowners such as 75-year-old Janice Winemiller of Sarasota sometimes get hurt. Florida Default Law Group charged her more than $4,000 for delivery of legal documents, according to her nonprofit legal aid lawyer. The firm couldn't substantiate the fees.

Dubbed foreclosure mills by some in the industry, these companies have turned the job into a factorylike process. Speed is the key to their success. "The only way their business model works is if they don't lay eyes on the lawsuit," said Jim Kowalski, a Jacksonville lawyer who has litigated against Florida Default Law Group.

Four firms, 1,049 filings; Few areas of the legal field are so dominated by a handful of players as foreclosure law. Florida Default Law Group is one of four foreclosure mills operating in Florida that appear to be winning the lion's share of business from lenders or their representatives. Along with Florida Default, other big firms include the law offices of David J. Stern in Plantation, the law offices of Marshall C. Watson in Fort Lauderdale and Shapiro & Fishman in Boca Raton.

The Tribune looked at 1,994 initial foreclosure documents filed in October to see which firms were handling the most foreclosures. Combined, those four industry heavyweights filed 1,049 foreclosure cases in October, or 53 percent of all new foreclosures filed in Hillsborough County that month. Florida Default filed 323 new foreclosure cases in October, second only to the 352 cases filed by David J. Stern. Florida Default operates in Florida's 66 other counties, the firm's managing partner testified in a court deposition.  more from this source..............

Did Miami's Efraim Diveroli Crony Ylli Pinari Ship Missiles to Hezbollah and Why Hasn't Efraim Diveroli Served Any Time in The Federal Pen ?

Why Hasn't Efraim Diveroli Served Any Time in The Federal Pen He Pled Guility in 2009, Cooperating Witness and/or Witness Protection Program ?

EFRAIM EZRA DIVEROLI, 80649-004,AGE 24,-White-M- 06-20-2008 RELEASED

By Miami New Times Staff, Tuesday, Apr. 6 2010.
In early 2007, after winning a $300 million U.S. Army contract to equip Afghanistan with munitions, Miami Beach arms dealer Efraim Diveroli, age 21, went scavenging in Albania. There he subcontracted Ylli Pinari, head of that Balkan country's state-run arms agency, to fill the order from derelict stockpiles.

Pinari and Diveroli partnered to ship the order to Afghanistan. After U.S. authorities looked into the deal -- which was illegal because the weapons came from China -- they arrested Diveroli, who pleaded guilty last fall to illegal arms sales. He awaits sentencing (why, for what reason is this punk not in prison?).  Now a press report, interviews, and documents obtained by New Times indicate the Miami Beach youngster might have been involved in an underworld of terrorism.

It all began March 15, 2008, when an Albanian stockpile exploded, rattling windows in neighboring countries and destroying a village. According to newspapers in the Balkans, Pinari was charged with mass murder over the blast. This past November 30, 2009, a dissident newspaper in Albania, Gazeta Tema, alleged Pinari had sold surface-to-air missiles to Hezbollah around the time he became Diveroli's point man.

Indeed, in secretly recorded cell phone conversations described in the New York Times, Diveroli had said of Pinari: "either he's the mafia or the mafia is controlling him." He claimed the mafia "went up higher to [Albania's] prime minister [Sali Berisha]," but explained, "I have to deal with [Pinari]. The U.S. government is expecting the products."

It's unclear whether the Hezbollah deal happened. But if it did, Pinari -- and by extension Miami Beach's Diveroli -- are far worse than anyone suspected. While helping the 21-year-old South Floridian scam America, Pinari might have also been supporting terrorists, more from this source....

US arms dealer Efraim Diveroli pleads guilty in Afghan weapons case, U.S. government dropped 84 other countsMIAMI, Aug 31, 2009 (Reuters) - A U.S. arms dealer who illegally supplied Chinese-made ammunition to Afghanistan under a Pentagon contract pleaded guilty to a single conspiracy charge and the U.S. government dropped 84 other counts, court documents said. Efraim Diveroli, 23, of Miami Beach, Florida, faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine on the charge of conspiring to defraud the United States and make false statements.

Sentencing was scheduled for Nov. 10.  Diveroli's Miami Beach-based company, AEY Inc, held a $298 million Pentagon contract to supply munitions to the Afghan government. The contract barred the company from shipping ammunition acquired directly or indirectly from a "Communist Chinese military company." Diveroli admitted in a plea deal signed in June that he bought ammunition made in Chinese factories between 1958 and 1974 from a military export company in Albania, according to the plea agreement filed in U.S. District Court in Miami.

Diveroli and his associates knew the ammunition would violate AEY's agreement with the Pentagon so they removed it from wooden crates and metal tins bearing Chinese markings and repacked it in cardboard boxes, the plea agreement said. AEY delivered 90 million rounds of Chinese-made ammunition, Diveroli falsely certified that it conformed to terms of his contract and the Army paid $10.3 million into AEY accounts, the agreement said. The Pentagon said last year it had suspended AEY from all federal contracting work.

At the time a Pentagon spokesman said there had been no reports of safety problems with the decades-old ammunition but that could have been because it might not have been distributed to soldiers because of its condition. Ammunition becomes less reliable and less accurate as it ages. The dozens of charges dropped included fraud, making false statements and wire fraud, more from this source.........

Wednesday, October 08, 2008, Speculation Surrounds Case of Albanian Whistle-Blower Kosta Trebicka's Death, Miami Arms Dealer Efraim Diveroli and links to the Albanian Mafia !   Oct. 8th 2008, The investigation into the death of a whistle-blower Kosta Trebicka in Albania appears to be nearing its conclusion, but with little hope of quelling the suspicion and speculation surrounding the case.

Kosta Trebicka, a witness in an inquiry, died (possibly murdered) on 9/12/2008. The whistle-blower, Kosta Trebicka, uncovered evidence of public corruption in the export of ammunition from the Communist era in Albania . His accusations were followed by arrests in Albania and charges against the employees of an arms-dealing company (AEY Inc) in Miami Fl, United States run by EFRAIM EZRA DIVEROLI, but only after an explosion at a munitions facility in the town of Gerdeci Albania killed 26 people, including children.

Mr. Trebicka, 48, a witness in the investigation into the explosion, a national tragedy in Albania, was found dead on a rural roadside near his car (see video click here). According to "News 24 TV" Albania , Trebicka was linked with the American intelligence service CIA about the investigation of trafficking weapons by the Albanian army and Albanian mafia and he was the top person who knew everything about the Gerdeci Blast scandal of Albania last March 2008.

Albania's government said on Friday Sept 12 2008 it was looking into the sudden death of an arms industry figure who was helping prosecutors investigate a weapons sale to the United States and an explosion that killed 26 people. Television pictures (see video click here) showed businessman Kosta Trebicka, his head covered in blood, sprawled on his back on a dirt road in a remote area of eastern Albania, where he had been hunting. His off-road car was nearby, and appeared to be damaged. Trebicka was involved in repackaging ageing Chinese ammunition that was being sold from Albania to AEY Inc (Efraim Diveroli), a U.S. firm contracted by the Pentagon to supply the Afghan army.

Transcript of Diveroli - Trebicka Conversation, between Efraim Diveroli in Miami Fl and Kosta Trebicka in Albania - alleging Prime Minister Son, Mr. Shkelzen Berisha, on weapons smuggling from Albania and heavy influence of Albanian Mafia on Prime Minister, Sali Berisha's Deals. Recorded in Tirana, Albania on June 11, 2007 at 20:49 PM by Trebicka, Diveroli was in Florida* This conversation was recorded in Albania by Kosta Trebicka on a Nokia cell phone, the high quality and clarity of the (recorded) conversation indicates that Kosta Trebicka had professional assistance (CIA) in recording the conversation on his cell phone.

Hisham Talaat Mustafa will walk on murder conviction of singer Suzanne Tamim, her photo, and put Egyptian justice in the dock.

Businessman Hisham Taalat Moustafa faces his second trial for ordering the murder of singer Suzanne Tamim, Egyptian justice will be on trial as well.  The Court of Cassation, Egypt's highest appeals court, granted Moustafa and el Sukkary a new trial on March 4, on the grounds that there'd been procedural errors during the investigation and trial. "This system is corrupt to the bone," said dentist Sarah Taha, 25, interviewed at a seaside vacation villa. She thought Moustafa's connections would save him from the hangman's noose.

Moustafa is a member of parliament's upper chamber, the Shura council, and a prominent member of the ruling National Democratic Party, headed by Hosni Mubarak, Egypt's president. He's also a close ally of Mubarak's son Gamal, who chairs the NDP's powerful policies secretariat.

"He's going to walk, no doubt about it," said Hany el Saied, 31, an accountant, interviewed at a Cairo supermarket. He said he'd been surprised by the death sentence Moustafa received. "After the death sentence I thought things had changed, and people were going to be held accountable for their actions. Now I think everything in Egypt is solved through money and connections," el Saied added.

The retrial of the 51-year-old politician and property tycoon is expected to begin in Cairo this week. The eventual verdict on him and the hitman he allegedly hired to slit the throat of his former lover, Suzanne Tamim, will be widely seen as a judgement on Egypt's notoriously uncertain legal system.

Moustafa has already been sentenced once to hang for ordering the murder of Miss Tamim, after a trial which ended a year ago. Few Egyptians could believe it when the judge, Muhammadi Qunsuwa, read out the verdict and terse death sentence to a packed Cairo courtroom. Moustafa, a senator and associate of the Egyptian president's son, Gamal Mubarak, slumped in his cage as the court erupted in confused mayhem.

He was found guilty of paying Mohsen Sukkari, a former state security policeman, £1.3 million to kill his former lover Suzanne Tamim, who was found dead in a Dubai apartment after she spurned the tycoon.  But last month an appeal court quashed the original convictions against him and the alleged hit man, Mohsen al-Sukkari, and Moustafa, who headed a property group until his arrest in September 2008, has written that he is confident of exoneration at the retrial, which begins on Monday.

Such a verdict, a former judge has warned, could completely erode what little faith remains in the country's judicial system. The original trial captivated the Arab world with its mix of sex and power, and the verdict came as shock in Egypt where men of Moustafa's stature are seen as above the law. He sat on the ruling party's policies committee chaired by Mr Mubarak, a driving force of economic reforms that - despite being praised by foreign investors - were seen as favouring the wealthy while further impoverishing already poor Egyptians.

The evidence against Moustafa presented in court appeared overwhelming. Closed circuit television camera tapes showed Sukkari entering and leaving the apartment where the pop singer was killed, and police presented recordings by Sukkari of phone conversations in which Moustafa urged him to kill Miss Tamim in London, where she lived at the time, more from this source...............

Web of terror: Jihadis use the Internet to cow 'South Park' producers Trey Parker and Matt Stone with Death Threat.

Web of terror: Jihadis use the Internet to cow 'South Park' producers, Sunday, April 25th 2010, 4:00 AM..

In these United States, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have the right to depict the Prophet Muhammed as they like. They did so by cloaking him in a bear suit, suggesting that this should make the image more palatable across the world. Of course, it didn't.

A New York-based Web site calling itself posted a message cautioning that Parker and Stone could face dire consequences as a result of insulting the prophet.  Under a picture showing the murder of Theo Van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker who produced a film critical of the treatment of women in Islam, the posting said:

"We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid, and they will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show. This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them."

That chilling language was accompanied by Comedy Central's New York address and the Los Angeles address of Parker and Stone's production company. And there was an ominous soundtrack: a sermon in which radical Yemen-based preacher Anwar Al-Awlaki - who has ties to the massacre at the Fort Hood military base - speaks of assassinating those who have "defamed" Muhammed.

The author of the post, Abu Talhah al Amrikee, told CNN he was not threatening the comedians - simply trying to give people the opportunity to protest by posting the addresses.

Whatever the danger faced by Parker and Stone, the circumstances illustrate a far larger peril - that of the role of the Internet in propagating extreme views and, potentially, in connecting adherents of radical Islam.

RevolutionMuslim's site serves as a forum for anti-Western pronouncements and discussions of topics including the roles of jihad and terrorism. It made available the lectures of Abdullah el-Faisal, a radical Muslim cleric who was imprisoned in Britain for urging followers to murder Jews, Hindus, Christians and Americans and who is now free on the island of Jamaica. The phenomenon is clear, present and real danger, more from this source....

Queens man Syed Hashmi facing 15 years after pleading guilty to helping Al Qaeda he was a member of Al-Muhajiroun in Queens NY.

On the eve of his federal trial, a Queens man charged with helping Al Qaeda pleaded guilty Tuesday, he was a member of Al-Muhajiroun and the Islamic Thinkers Society in Queens NY.  Syed Hashmi, 30, faces up to 15 years in prison on one count of providing material support to a terrorist organization. "We made the best deal available under the circumstances," said David Ruhnke, one of Hashmi's defense lawyers.

The former Brooklyn College student was arrested in London in 2006 and has been held in solitary confinement. The feds said he was a radical who was in cahoots with terrorists when he lived in New York and later when he went to London for grad school.

Hashmi allegedly sheltered an Al Qaeda operative who organized training camps in Pakistan - and let him use his cell phone to arrange meetings with other alleged terrorists. Hashmi was also charged with giving the same man $300 and helping him store rain ponchos and socks collected for Al Qaeda soldiers.

Prosecutors claimed Syed Hashmi also joined the New York chapter of the radical Al Muhajiroun, which advocated the overthrow of Western society. They said he befriended Al Qaeda operative Junaid Babar and acted as a go-between, relaying emails between Babar in Pakistan and London-based terrorist Omar Khyam, more from this source...

Mohammed Siddique Khan, an al-Muhajiroun convert and the ringleader of the 7/7 plot that killed 52 people in London, learnt his murderous skills at the Malakand training camp hidden in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province.  Other Britons at the cap in the summer of 2003 included Omar Khyam, ringleader of the fertiliser bombers. He attended the camp with Saladhuddin Amin, later to play a key role in the plot. Along with scores of other militants the pair practised making explosives, detonating devices in the camp.

Until now the details of how Queens NY jihadi Mohammed Junaid Babar met the fertiliser bomb plotters have been hazy. But documents filed by the US authorities who extradited him from the UK, say it was Syed Hashmi. Hashmi, described as one of al-Muhajiroun’s top recruiters, who brought the American, Babar, into the organisation where he later met the British fertiliser bomb plotters.

Hashmi, who moved to Britain (London) from Queens in 2003, allegedly allowed his London flat to be used to store supplies and money that Babar was shipping out to Abdul al-Hadi al-Iraqi, then head of al-Qaeda’s operations in Afghanistan. The supplies included ponchos, torches and boots, useful for recruits fighting US troops in remote parts of Afghanistan.

Hashmi was arrested as he tried to board a plane from Heathrow to Pakistan carrying thousands of pounds in cash. If convicted in the US he had faced up to 54 years in prison.

Russian TV channel avoid ban after airing South Park and The Simpsons, censorship goes international.

Russian TV channel avoid ban after airing South Park, The Simpsons, UPDATED Sep 27, 2008 8:36am AEST .  A Russian channel under fire from prosecutors and religious groups for airing South Park and The Simpsons has kept its licence, RIA Novosti news agency reported, citing an official involved in the decision.

"We unanimously recommended the extension of the licence [of 2x2 channel]," Mikhail Seslavinsky, a member of the Federal Competition Commission for Television and Radio Broadcasting, was quoted as saying by the news agency.

Fans had staged protests in support of the channel, fearing that the commission would take 2x2 off the air next month after a campaign by religious groups against the irreverent US cartoons. But the channel still faces a criminal investigation on charges of extremism for broadcasting the notoriously foul-mouthed South Park.

The Prosecutor General's office released a statement fiercely critical of the channel this month, saying: "The cartoons broadcast by 2x2 propagandise violence, cruelty, pornography and anti-social behaviour." In the run-up to Wednesday's ruling, teenagers dressed in black - some with studs and punk haircuts, others dressed as South Park characters - protested in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, the two cities where the channel is shown.

Religious activists heading the campaign against the channel say its cartoons are offensive to their Muslim faith. "I've got no problem with my sense of humour, but any satire has its limits," Konstantin Bendas - a Pentecostal pastor who is heading the campaign and has written a formal complaint to prosecutors - told AFP. "If Christian communion is compared to eating faeces, is that funny," he asked, referring to an episode of South Park. The activists have found support from some Members of Parliament from the ruling United Russia party, who have blasted the cartoons as pornography.

Simpsons supports South Park writers in Mohammed censorship row and death threat by

Creators of US cartoon The Simpsons have given a nod of support to rivals at South Park whose recent episode depicting the prophet Mohammed was censored.

The opening titles of The Simpsons were altered to acknowledge the controversial decision by channel Comedy Central to change the 201st episode of South Park after the previous edition depicted the prophet disguised in a bear costume.

South Park's creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, were sent a warning by a New York-based radical Islamic website for the 200th episode ( ).

"South Park - we'd stand beside you if we weren't so scared," Bart Simpson wrote on the blackboard in the opening sequences.  The Mohammed character was introduced as part of a joke about censorship based on the 2006 death threats made against Danish cartoonists by Islamist extremists, who see any depiction of Muhammad as a gross insult to their religion.

In the 201st episode, all mentions of the prophet were "bleeped" out and his image was blocked out with the word "censored."  Mr Parker and Mr Stone released a statement: "In the 14 years we’ve been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn’t stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode.

"It wasn’t some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle’s customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn’t mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We’ll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we’ll see what happens to it."

Abu Talhah al Amrikee wrote on that the decision to caricature the prophet was "stupid".  He wrote that they would "probably wind up like Theo van Gogh", the Dutch film-maker who was murdered in 2004 after making a documentary on violence against Muslim women.

"It's not a threat, but it really is a likely outcome," wrote Mr Amrikee. "They're going to be basically on a list in the back of the minds of a large number of Muslims. It's just the reality."  more from this source............
