UPDATE April 2nd 2026: “ Shelly Renee Kittleson, the American journalist that was kidnapped, was warned multiple times by the FBI as recently as the day before it happened. She was playing with fire. They specifically warned her that she was a target of potential Iranian linked violence and they likely knew she was a kidnapping hostage target,” an FBI official told NewsNation with direct knowledge. The State Department also warned Kittleson of threats against her, including as late as the night prior to her kidnapping, a U.S. official told NewsNation’s Libbey Dean.

U.S. and Iraqi officials said American Journalist Shelly Renee Kittleson had also been warned of threats against her in the days before her abduction. “She was contacted multiple times with warnings of the threats against her,” including as late as the night before the kidnapping. Kittleson entered Baghdad a few days before she was kidnapped and was staying in a hotel in the capital. U.S. officials have alleged that Kittleson was taken by Kataib Hezbollah, an Iran-linked Iraqi militia that has been implicated in previous kidnappings of foreigners. 'Kataib Hezbollah' had warned its enemies they will 'taste the bitterest forms of death' if Donald Trump struck its backer, Iran. U.S. journalist Shelly R. Kittleson is 49 years old, she is originally from Monticello, Wisconsin. "She knew and she was warned by US State Dpet that she was a target of the terrorist group Kataib Hezbollah and she did not flee, WTH"?

As the gray sedan drove up to Shelly Kittleson two other Khatib Hezbollah individuals came walking up from the right in the photo above. The two men walked up to Shelly Kittleson grabbed her and stuffed her into the rear passenger seat where 3rd man was waiting. One of the street thugs then went over to the rear seat behind the driver and the other goon got in the front passenger seat with the driver and they sped off.

According to a report by Al-Monitor, sources from the Trump administration were aware of the threat against her and had advised her not to travel to Iraq. The Khatib Hezbollah group is responsible for killing hundreds of U.S. soldiers and takes a central part in carrying out attacks against U.S. targets in Iraq and acts as part of the Axis of Resistance. The Iran Quds Force of the IRGC finances, instructs, directs, and controls Khatib Hezbollah in Iraq.

Hamas and Khatib Hezbollah has established a presence in Baghdad, Iraq, opening a political office in 2024 with support from Iran-backed Iraqi factions, allowing them to directly engage with local politicians and strengthen regional "Axis of Resistance" ties. Khatib Hezbollah (KH), a powerful Iran-backed Iraqi paramilitary group, has maintained a significant and increasingly visible presence in Baghdad, Iraq, particularly following the installation of the Sudani government. Khatib Hezbollah acts as a, de facto branch of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps–Qods Force (IRGC-QF) in Iraq, bad news for Shelly Littleson. Hamas and the Houthi rebels in Yemen — both Iran-backed terror groups — quietly established political offices in Iraq over the summer, The New York Times revealed on September 17, 2024. The Khatib Hezbollah group has been accused of serious human rights abuses, including the kidnapping, torture, and execution of civilians. This will be a very bad encounter for American Journalist Shelly Kittleson with Khatib Hezbollah terrorists, expect extreme physical treatment with video to follow.

Two Iraqi security officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the case, said the kidnapped journalist was a woman with US citizenship. They said that two Khatib Hezbollah cars were involved in the kidnapping, one of which crashed and was apprehended, while a second car fled the scene with the journalist, heading toward the south of Baghdad, reported Associated Press.

The ministry said the operation was launched immediately based on what it called “precise intelligence.” It added that authorities had intercepted a vehicle believed to belong to the abductors that flipped over as they tried to flee.
