PUBLISHED ORLANDO, Fla. — A 25-year-old Orange County man was behind bars Monday after being charged with two counts of first-degree murder in a case that Sheriff John Mina said could have been just the beginning of a "prolific serial killer." Carlos Yadiel Baez Nieves also AKA Carlos Yadiel Baeznieves, a transplant from Puerto Rico, was identified as a suspect in the deaths of 41-year-old Fatia Flowers on March 4, and 44-year-old Nichole Daniels on April 17, Mina said. According to detectives, both women were strangled to death and their bodies were dumped at the intersection of Trevarthon Road and Harrell Road — a location that was also not far from Baeznieves' home, Sheriff Mina said. 

"Carlos Yadiel Baez Nieves also AKA Carlos Yadiel Baeznieves, DOB 5/22/1999, targeted the most vulnerable women," Sheriff Mina said. "Women who were transient, and who traded sex for money." He clearly targeted women he thought wouldn’t be missed. He murdered them and dumped them on the side of the road like trash. Carlos Yadiel Baez Nieves also AKA Carlos Yadiel Baeznieves, 25, faces murder charges in the slayings of Fatia Flowers and Nichole Daniels, whose bodies were found on the side of the road near the intersection of Trevarton and Harrell roads in east Orlando. Flowers, 41, who detectives said also went by Antonia Heath, was found dead March 14. The body of Daniels, 44, was found April 17. On Monday, Sheriff Mina said at a press conference that Baez-Nieves had the makings of a “potential serial killer” given the short time span between the killings and the similarities in the incidents. 

Sheriff Mina added he is working with other law enforcement agencies to see if Baez-Nieves, who is from Puerto Rico but moved to Orange County around 2020, had other victims. The FBI considers serial murder to be “the unlawful killing of two or more victims by the same offender, in separate events,” a definition under which Baez Nieves’ alleged actions would qualify. Sheriff Mina said that due to the nature of the two Orange County murders, investigators are looking into any similar cases that Baez Nieves may have a connection to in Orange County, or other areas along I-4 in Florida. Carlos Yadiel Baez Nieves also had NO VALID DRIVER LICENSE.

According to the FBI, four unsolved killings along I-4 near Orlando are among 28 in Florida that are unsolved and connected to serial killings that the bureau suspects were committed by long-haul truckers. Those include 19 deaths along the Interstate 4 corridor between Tampa and Daytona Beach, although all but one local law-enforcement agency denies any serial-killer cases on its books.The FBI report documents dozens of serial killings of people whose bodies were dumped near popular trucking routes.The report is accompanied by a map that shows the FBI plotting more than 500 serial killings — mostly prostitutes and female drug users — across the United States.

Christopher Reid has been arrested in the past, there's nothing preventing him from legally owning a firearm since he was never convicted of a felony in North Carolina. A spokesperson from the CMPD department told PEOPLE that while the man, identified as Christopher Reid in the police report, told officers he was attacked, authorities did not find any visible injuries on him. According to Instacart’s policy, shoppers aren’t allowed to carry weapons to pickup or delivery locations. Civil lawsuit is next.

The actor said she was at her home in Charlotte, N.C., with her daughters at the time of the incident. Her dog Ollie appears to wear a collar designed to keep the dog on her property (invisible fence). Harmon alleged that the shopper Christopher Reid, employed by the San Francisco company, shot Oliver shortly after completing their delivery on Saturday afternoon. Instacart guidelines state a shopper's account will be deactivated if the contractor carries a weapon, makes threats of violence or aggressive gestures, or harasses customers. In a statement to the Chronicle, Instacart confirmed the suspension of the shopper Merle & Christopher involved in the incident. SO WHO IS THE INSTACART SHOPPER NAMED MERLE IN CHARLOTTE NC. The actual male Instacart driver Christopher Reid used different identity, Harmon says The male Instacart driver Christopher Reid used the identity and photo of a woman named Merle, Harmon said. On her Instagram story Monday, Harmon shared the delivery order confirmation that she received on the app. The photo showed that the order arrived on Saturday at 11:51 a.m.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, which did identify the suspect Christopher, released him. Christopher Reid claimed he shot the dog in self-defense. According to the police statement, the delivery driver Christopher reported being attacked by a dog at the residence and that “he defended himself by firing a single gunshot, striking and mortally wounding the dog.” Angie Harmon added that Christopher Reid, ID'd by CMPD, appeared to be shopping for Instacart under a false identity when he shot her dog Ollie to death.

In a statement to NBC News, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police department confirmed several details about the shooting described by Harmon. Police confirmed that the deliveryman Christopher Reid who shot the dog told officers it was done in self-defense. “[The Instacart driver] told officers that a dog attacked him while he was at the residence and that he defended himself by firing a single gunshot, striking and mortally wounding the dog,” police said in a statement. “Another dog was present at the residence but did not attack.” Authorities told NBC that no arrests were made and that no charges were recommended, (because it is a dog).

Our ring camera was charging in the house, which he saw & then knew he wasn’t being recorded. The police let him go b/c he claimed “self defense”. He did not have a scratch or bite on him nor were his pants torn.  He was shopping under a woman’s identity named Merle… the pic is on my story. He shot our dog with my daughters & myself at home & just kept saying, “yeah, I shot your dog. Yeah I did.” We are completely traumatized & beyond devastated at the loss of our beloved boy & family member. #RIP OLLIE
