Imam Abdallah Adhami to Take Over the Ground Zero Mosque NYC, Imam Rauf is Out.

January 14, 2011 - 11:26am, Associated Press...New imam named for NYC Islamic center.  NEW YORK (AP) - The organization planning to build an Islamic community center near the World Trade Center said the imam who has been the public face of the project, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, will be playing a reduced role in the facility.

The nonprofit group Park51 announced Friday that it had named a new imam to help lead religious programing so that Rauf could focus on other initiatives.

Rauf announced late this fall that he would be starting a global movement that would fight extremism and promote better relations between people of different faiths and cultures. He is set to start a national speaking tour Saturday in Detroit.   The group named another New York City imam, Abdullah Adhami, as its senior adviser.

Adhami was born in Washington, D.C., and earned an architecture degree from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He has already performed guest lectures at the site of the planned center, and has had a presence in lower Manhattan since the early 1990s.

Imam Abdallah Adhami links to a series of prior address’s such as Rego Park NY near Queens Blvd., Santa Ana CA, Englewood NJ and Teaneck NJ there is also another name linked to his Social Security Number (appears he changed his name in CA). There are also some legal problems Imam Abdallah Adhami encountered while in Orange County CA.

On Friday 1/14/2011 at 11:51 AM I broke the story of the connection between the new Ground Zero mosque Imam Abdallah Adhami and the World Trade Center bombing co-conspirator imam Siraj Wahhaj, others like Pamela Geller of the "Atlas Shrugs Blog" followed up hours later at 1:34 PM.

Imam Abdallah Adhami voluntarily undertook to design the Masjid At-Taqwa where Siraj Wahaj is the Imam. Shaykh Abdullah taught at the Al-Ghazali full-time Islamic school in New Jersey for one year.

See NY Post article of Saturday 1/15/2011 Tim Brown a retired firefighter who responded to the 9/11 attacks said “Siraj Wahhaj is as radical as you can get.”
Thursday, November 19, 2009, Queens MSA features Brooklyn imam Siraj Wahhaj speaking on “How Islam Perfected Thanksgiving” but MSA member says kill all the Jews.  Controversial imam Siraj Wahhaj  who authorities have called an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing is scheduled to speak tonight to a Muslim student group at Queens College on the subject "How Islam Perfected Thanksgiving." MSA “definitely should not be funded by the taxpayers,” Queens College Republicans Vice President Ryan James Girdusky told The Post. “The MSA has shown itself to be an alleged possible breeding ground of anti-American jihad’s thoughts,” Girdusky wrote the CUNY school’s president in a recent letter.

Professor Tim Rosen said that at a screening of the anti-radical Muslim film “Fitna” two weeks ago, a MSA member was “laughing” and muttered “good” during footage showing American businessman Nicholas Berg being beheaded by terrorists in Iraq, and that the student was “giggling and saying ‘good’ ” during footage of planes hitting the Twin Towers.  At a raucous post-screening debate with Queens College Republicans, who hosted the film, an MSA member said, “If I had enough money I would be part of the jihad army, I would kill all the Jews,” recalled College Republicans treasurer Eli Karl.

Siraj Wahaj was an unindicted co conspirator in the 1993 WTC bombings and Imam of Al Taqwa mosque in New York. He is the imam of the al-Taqwa mosque in Brooklyn, where he provided a platform for convicted terrorist Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman. He later served as a defense witness for the Sheik in the World Trade Center bombing trial. In September 1991, Wahaj stated the following: “…And he [Allah] declared ‘Whoever is at war with my friends, I declare war on them.’ Who is a friend of Allah? [He chants a passage in Arabic] Allah. Your true friend is Allah, the messenger, and those who believe. Americans and Canadians. Hear it well. Hear what I’m telling you well. The Americans are not your friends, hear what I’m telling you, hear it well. The Canadians are not your friends, hear what I’m telling you, hear it well. The Europeans are not your friends. Your friend is Allah, the Messenger and those who believe. These people will never be satisfied with you until you follow their religion. They will never be satisfied with you…

Don't Talk to the FBI Says Palestinian Hatem Abudayyeh, CAIR Says Poster Warning Against Helping FBI is Misinterpreted

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said it will remove a poster from the group's website promoting an upcoming conference that encourages people not to talk to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The poster, which appeared on the website of CAIR’s California chapter, features a sinister-looking FBI agent with the headlines “Build a Wall of Resistance” and “Don’t Talk to the FBI.” The poster was designed in the late 1970s or early 1980s and has been reproduced by various groups and activists since then in response to alleged harassment by the FBI and to protest grand jury subpoenas.

“I think it’s subject to misinterpretation,” spokesman Ibrahim Hooper told Fox News Radio when speaking about the poster. “We decided out of extreme caution to take it down.”

The poster was promoting a conference called “FBI Raids and Grand Jury Subpoenas: Know Your Rights and Defend Our Communities.” The keynote speaker is Hatem Abudayyeh, identified by CAIR as an activist and Palestinian community leader whose home was allegedly raided by federal agents in September.

The conference is scheduled for Feb. 9 at the East Side Cultural Center in Oakland. Hooper conceded the poster “crosses the line,” but refused to renounce the artwork and blamed critics for fomenting what he called a manufactured controversy.

Hatem Abudayyeh, Quote, “The U.S. and Israel will continue to describe Hamas, Hezbollah and the other Palestinian and Lebanese resistance organizations as ‘terrorists,’ but the real terrorists are the governments and military forces of the U.S. and Israel. The vast majority of the world sees and understands this, and are in full support of Lebanese, Palestinian and worldwide resistance to Israel and the U.S.’s naked aggression, war, imperialism and occupation.  As we have seen in Iraq, where the resistance is standing up to U.S. power, the U.S. military is not indomitable.”

September 24, 2010, ChicagoTribune…Federal agents searched homes of anti-war activists in Chicago and Minneapolis on Friday in an investigation of possible links with terrorist organizations in the Middle East and South America.

About 20 FBI agents spent most of the day searching the Logan Square residence of activists Stephanie Weiner and Joseph Iosbaker, Weiner said. In Jefferson Park, neighbors saw FBI agents carrying boxes from the apartment of community activist Hatem Abudayyeh, executive director of the Arab American Action Network. Hatem Abudayyeh also runs the U.S. Palestinian Community Network (USPCN).

Chicago activist Thomas Burke said he was served a grand jury subpoena that requested records of any payments to Hatem Abudayyeh or his group. “The warrants are seeking evidence in support of an ongoing Joint Terrorism Task Force investigation into activities concerning the material support of terrorism,” said Steve Warfield, spokesman for the FBI in Minneapolis, where six additional homes were searched Friday.

Burke said he received a grand jury subpoena requesting records of payments to Hatem Abudayyeh’s organization as well as two groups among the State Department’s list of foreign terrorist organizations, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

Sarasota Imam Muneer Arafat Linked To And Roomed With Al-Qaeda Terrorists For Over 10 Years.

Thirteen years ago the Islamic Society of Sarasota and Bradenton, Inc (ISSB) was first established as a part of The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). It was later separated to lead Islam in both Sarasota and Manatee counties independently.  The Islamic Society of Sarasota and Bradenton has been housed in what would be described a "Florida Shotgun House" with a single window air conditioner and a tent out back for 'larger" meetings.

The estimated cost of the new "Mega Mosque" at 4350 N. Lockwood Ridge Rd in Sarasota Fl is set at $2,600,000.00, so how does one go from the "Florida Shotgun House" to the new "Mega Mosque" with the gold dome out back and who supplies the cash ?

Mega Mosque Going up in Sarasota Fl Near Site of 9/11 Hijackers Training.  9/11 terror pilots Mohamed Atta and Marwan al-Shehhi lived on Laurel Rd in Nokomis Fl for about 9 months they trained at flight schools and shopped and dined in nearby Venice and in Sarasota Fl.  Mohamed Atta began flight training on July 7, 2000 and continued training nearly every day. By the end of July 2000, both Atta and al-Shehhi did solo flights. Atta earned his private pilot certificate in September 2000, and then he and Shehhi decided to switch flight schools, both terrorists enrolled at Jones Aviation at the SRQ airport in Sarasota FL which is near the new "Mega Mosque" on N. Lockwood Ridge Rd

9/11 pilot Ziad Jarrah, June 27, 2000, Jarrah came to the U.S. for the first time, arriving at Newark International Airport. He then traveled to Venice Florida, where he enrolled full-time at the Florida Flight Training Center (FFTC) in Venice FL. FFTC is just down the road from Huffman Aviation, a flight school where Mohamed Atta and Marwan Alshehhi began training.

ZIAD JARRAH VENICE FL RESIDENCES; 4841 Pompano, Venice, FL. Law Enforcement Sensitive.

Muneer Arafat was the Imam at the Islamic Society of Sarasota and Bradenton (ISSB) Mosque from early 2000 to the end of 2003, he showed up just prior to Mohamed Atta and the rest of the 9/11 terrorists in nearby Nokomis Fl. Imam Muneer Arafat quotes “I’m not opposed to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s goal of destroying Israel and replacing it with an Islamic state”. “Muslims need to stay unified, and they should support the Palestinian uprising known as the intifada”.

Imam Muneer Arafat was also linked to the Masjid Al-Ihsaan Mosque at 977 Fulton St Brooklyn New York for a period of time in 2005 and then again in 2007.

TAMPA – The trial of Sami Al-Arian and his three co-defendants got lively when Muneer Arafat took the stand and offered a pithy sound bite for why he broke from Al-Arian and his supporters in 1988. “They are sending their kids to Duke University and Yale University from Tampa while they are sending someone else’s kids to do a suicide bombing.”

Sarasota Imam Muneer Arafat says convicted terrorist Sami Al-Arian tried to recruit him into a faction of Palestinian Islamic Jihad in 1988 but he was already a PIJ terror member with the Tamimi faction. Muneer Arafat also lied about being a US citizen, was the roomate of an al-Qaeda terrorist, Ziyad Khaleel aka Ziyad Sadaqa, solicitated funds for terror organizations and worked for the FBI as a paid confidential informant on a international stolen car scam, a very busy boy.

Muneer Arafat, 47, said he had spent months and months talking to a Sarasota suspect in another case (stolen car scam shipped to Middle East) at the request of the FBI, which collected much of the evidence in the Al-Arian case, Muneer Arafat was paid $35,000 by the FBI.

Federal Bureau of Prisons results for Sarasota Imam Muneer K. Arafat, prisoner number 28523-044, not currently in custody, arrest date 11/27/02 Sarasota Fl (see his photo above), “Arafat said he once was deported for overstaying his visa but never was charged with any crime for lying on the voting application.” he said he twice registered to vote in St. Louis, once under his real name and once under a false name. He said he did not vote. So how did he get back into the USA ?

Ziyad Khaleel, also known as Khalil Ziyad, Ziyad Sadaqa, and Ziyad Abdulrahman, was a Palestinian-American al-Qaeda member, based in the United States, primarily in Colorado, Florida, Michigan and Missouri. He had been identified as a “procurement agent” for Osama bin Laden, arranging the purchase and delivery of “computers, satellite telephones, and covert surveillance equipment” for the leadership of al-Qaeda,as well as administering a number of radical Islamic websites as webmaster, including the website of the terrorist group Hamas.

The FBI investigated Anwar al-Awlaki, later linked to three of the 9/11 hijackers, the Fort Hood shooter, and the Christmas Day 2009 bomber, beginning in June 1999 through March 2000, after it learned he had been contacted by Ziyad Khaleel in Colorado.

IARA employee Ziyad Khaleel aka Ziyad Sadaqa and roommate of Sarasota Imam Muneer Arafat is verified as a procurement agent of Osama Bin Laden in the released IARA Indictment (1/16/2008), see exert; On or about November 6, 2001, a person acting on behalf of the defendant IARA, engaged in a television interview via satellite transmission from Columbia, Missouri, to Atlanta, Georgia, wherein he falsely and publicly claimed that Ziyad Khaleel, a then publicly identified associate and procurement agent of Osama Bin Laden, had never been an employee of the defendant IARA, when in fact, as the defendants then and there well knew and believed, he had been.

Ziyad Khaleel was/is a terrorist and he was communicating with agents of Osama Bin Laden from at least 1996 in Columbia MO and purchased communication equipment, (satellite phone) for Osama bin Laden which was used to co-ordinate the two 1998 US Embassy bombings in Africa, hundreds were killed. During this time period 1996 to 1998, future Sarasota Imam (in 2000) Muneer Arafat was in the same apartment were phone calls, e-mails and faxes are coming in from agents of Osama bin Laden planning mass bombings in Africa. …. see St Louis Dispatch article about Ziyad Khaleel aka Ziyad Sadaqa and roommate of Sarasota Imam Muneer Arafat, above

Judges Berate Bank Lawyers in Foreclosure Crisis, David J. Stern law firm “Motion to Dismiss” Denied by Sarasota Judge in $25 Million Dollar Lawsuit.

1M Homes Repossessed in 2010; Crisis 'Peak' ComingLenders are poised to take back more homes in 2011 than any other year since the U.S. housing meltdown began, industry analysts forecast, as about 5 million borrowers fall at least two months behind on their mortgages and more will miss payments as they struggle with job losses and loans worth more than their home's value, industry analysts forecast.

Foreclosure cases drawing criticism. With judges looking ever more critically at home foreclosures, they are reaching beyond the bankers to heap some of their most scorching criticism on the lawyers. In numerous opinions, judges have accused lawyers (David J. Stern) of processing shoddy or even fabricated paperwork in foreclosure actions when representing the banks.  "There are groups in society that everybody likes to hate, now foreclosure lawyers are heading for the top of the list with the Stern Law Office leading the pack."
In the most publicized example, David J. Stern, a lawyer whose Florida firm has been part of an estimated 20 percent of the foreclosure actions in the state, has been accused of filing sloppy and even fraudulent mortgage paperwork. Major institutions have dropped the David J. Stern Law firm, which has been the subject of several lawsuits, (private investigator Bill Warner sued the Stern clan for $5,000,000 each) and 1,200 of the 1,400 people once at the firm are out of work.

Attorney for David J. Stern Law Firm Fumbles the Ball in $25 Million Dollar Lawsuit, The Stern “Motion to Dismiss” Denied by Sarasota Judge.   Monday December 27th, 2010 at 4:00 pm…In what should have been a slam dunk for attorney Michelle Mason representing defendants David J. Stern, the Stern Law Firm and two additional Stern attorneys, a Sarasota Judge denied her Motion to Dismiss the $25 Million dollar lawsuit filed against them by Sarasota private investigator Bill Warner, see court records click here

The bank, DEUTSCHE BANK NATIONAL TRUST CO is being defended by attorney Kimberly J Gustafson in Saint Petersburg, Florida. There are several precedents in Florida law that provide immunity for an attorney’s actions in civil cases, from the District Court of Appeals Florida to the Supreme Court of Florida, it is pretty much common knowledge that you can not sue an attorney for his/her actions during the course of civil litigation, but that did not stop me and now the case will continue to the Discovery Phase and the Deposition Phase, oh by the way, I do not have an attorney and I am acting as my own attorney, “Pro Se” in court during the oral arguments with the Stern Law Firm.

Mafia Guilty Pleas of All 14 "Made" Members And Associates of The Gambino Organized Crime Family of La Cosa Nostra In Manhattan NY.

FBI Handout...Steve Maiurro (top left), Thomas Orefice (top center), Daniel Marino (top right), Michael Scotto (bottom left), Onofrio Modica (bottom center), and Thomas Scarpaci

PREET BHARARA, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and JANICE K. FEDARCYK, the Assistant Director-in-Charge of the New York Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation ("FBI"), announced the guilty pleas of all 14 members and associates of the Gambino Organized Crime Family of La Cosa Nostra (the "Gambino Family") who were charged in Manhattan federal court in April 2010 with crimes including racketeering, murder, sex trafficking, extortion, and wire fraud. The final two of the 14 defendants—THOMAS OREFICE and DOMINICK DIFIORE—pled guilty today to various federal charges. The other 12 defendants pled guilty over the past several months.

They are:
(1) DANIEL MARINO;
(2) ONOFRIO MODICA;
 (3)ANTHONY MANZELLA;
(4) MICHAEL SCOTTO;
(5) MICHAEL SCARPACI;
(6) THOMAS SCARPACI;
(7) DAVID EISLER;
(8) SALVATORE BORGIA;
 (9) STEVE MAIURRO;
(10) KEITH DELLITALIA;
(11) SUZANNE PORCELLI;
(12) ANTHONY VECCHIONE.

Manhattan U.S. Attorney PREET BHARARA said: "The Gambino Family and their associates continue to use violence, threats, and intimidation to wield power and profit illegally off the backs of their many victims. But the convictions of all 14 individuals charged by this office just nine months ago has dealt the Gambinos a significant blow. As the result of our prosecution, one of the Mafia's preeminent leaders and many of its rising stars will now serve significant prison sentences. We are, however, far from finished with the Gambino Family and will continue working with our law enforcement partners to put their members and associates out of business and behind bars."

FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge JANICE K. FEDARCYK said: "The guilty pleas by Orefice and Difiore effectively mark the successful end of the prosecution of this case against a portion of the Gambino Family. The 14 defendants admitted their roles in crimes that include sex trafficking, extortion, violent assaults, and murders, putting to lie the notion that today's mob is somehow less violent or craven than in the past. While this case is effectively over, the FBI's commitment to policing the Gambino Family and La Cosa Nostra is far from over."

According to the indictment previously filed in Manhattan federal court, the guilty plea proceedings, and the record of the case:  DANIEL MARINO, a longtime member of the Gambino Family, was a boss who presided over at least 200 fully inducted or "made" mafia members, as well as hundreds of associates who committed crimes on behalf of the family. THOMAS OREFICE and ONOFRIO MODICA were soldiers of the Gambino Family acting under MARINO's supervision. OREFICE and MODICA each supervised crews that included DOMINICK DIFIORE, ANTHONY MANZELLA, MICHAEL SCOTTO, MICHAEL SCARPACI, THOMAS SCARPACI, DAVID EISLER, and SALVATORE BORGIA. The iIndictment also charges other individuals who committed crimes with and for the Gambino Family, including STEVE MAIURRO, KEITH DELLITALIA, SUZANNE PORCELLI, and ANTHONY VECCHIONE.

In addition to racketeering charges, the defendants were charged and have pled guilty to the following crimes:
Murder of Frank Hydell; In 1997, suspicion arose within the Gambino Family that FRANK HYDELL, MARINO's nephew, was cooperating with law enforcement. He was. Based on these suspicions, various Gambino Family members and associates plotted to kill HYDELL and sought MARINO's approval for the hit. In his guilty plea, MARINO admitted that he gave his co-conspirators the "green light" for the murder to proceed. Upon MARINO's authorization to kill HYDELL, various Gambino Family members and associates lured him to a strip club in Staten Island where he was shot three times in the face and back. HYDELL died in the strip club's parking lot. He was 31 years old.

Accessory to Murder of James DiGuglielmo and Richard SbarraOn August 22, 1987, MODICA's motorcycle was used in connection with the drive-by shooting of two individuals in Staten Island, JAMES DIGUGLIELMO and RICHARD SBARRA. After the murders occurred, MODICA made false statements to the police and helped to hide and destroy evidence in an effort to protect the individuals who killed DIGUGLIELMO and SBARRA from being arrested and convicted.

Sex Trafficking and Sex Trafficking of a Minor; From 2008 to 2009, numerous defendants, including OREFICE, DIFIORE, MANZELLA, SCOTTO, EISLER, MAIURRO, and PORCELLI, operated a prostitution business where young women and girls were exploited and sold for sex. The defendants first recruited various young women and girls to work as prostitutes. The defendants then advertised the prostitution business on Craigslist and other websites. The defendants drove the women to appointments in Manhattan, Brooklyn, New Jersey, and Staten Island to have sex with clients. The defendants then took approximately 50 percent of the money paid to the young women. The defendants also made the women available for sex to gamblers at a weekly, high-stakes poker game.

Jury Tampering; In 1992, then-boss JOHN J. GOTTI was on trial for federal racketeering and murder charges in the Eastern District of New York. MODICA, along with various other Gambino Family members, took part in a plot to locate the anonymous, sequestered jurors sitting on that trial. MODICA and the others eventually penetrated various security measures, and located the jury at the hotel where it was sequestered. The plan to tamper with the jury was called off, however, when GOTTI came to believe that the jury would not convict him, even without outside interference.

Extortions and Assaults; Between 2005 and 2009, OREFICE, DIFIORE, MANZELLA, SCOTTO, THOMAS SCARPACI, DELLITALIA, EISLER, and VECCHIONE extorted payments from various businesses and individuals through the use of violence and threats. The defendants targeted businesses in the construction, home heating oil, and financial services industries, as well as various individuals in and around New York City.

Several of the extortions resulted in serious beatings. For example: In December 2005, after an extortion victim failed to make a payment, OREFICE, DIFIORE, and DELLITALIA punched and used a baseball bat to beat the victim, causing the victim's hospitalization.

In 2008, OREFICE and DIFIORE tracked down another extortion victim who failed to make a payment, beat him viciously, and left him on the street. The victim was hospitalized and received emergency surgery.

In the summer of 2009, OREFICE, DIFIORE, MANZELLA, THOMAS SCARPACI, and VECCHIONE plotted to extort the owner of a financial services business in Staten Island. Members of OREFICE's crew went to the victim's office in an attempt to shake him down, demanded to see the victim, and, ultimately, threatened the victim's office staff.

In the summer of 2009, SCOTTO assaulted an individual to collect an extortion payment for DIFIORE, leaving the individual unconscious.

Wire Fraud; OREFICE and MANZELLA defrauded various high-end restaurants in New York City by inflating invoices for meat orders placed with MANZELLA's company and paying kickbacks to the chefs responsible for ordering the meat. The invoices were sometimes inflated by as much as 40 percent of actual costs. To ensure that the chefs at the restaurants would continue ordering meat from MANZELLA's company, and to encourage them to turn a blind eye to the scam, MANZELLA kicked back about five percent of the proceeds to them.

Narcotics Trafficking; DIFIORE and BORGIA trafficked in narcotics—including cocaine and oxycodone—for and on behalf of the Gambino Family.

Gambling; OREFICE, MODICA, DIFIORE, MANZELLA, MICHAEL SCARPACI, THOMAS SCARPACI, EISLER, BORGIA, and DELLITALIA ran various illegal gambling operations for the Gambino Family. These operations included an Internet-based sports betting, or "bookmaking," operation, and a regular, high-stakes card game.
The charges contained in the Indictment against each defendant, the corresponding maximum potential penalties, and the scheduled sentencing dates are contained in charts attached to this press release.

Mr. BHARARA praised the investigative work of the FBI. The case is being handled by the Office's Organized Crime Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorneys ELIE HONIG, NATALIE LAMARQUE, DANIEL CHUNG, and JASON HERNANDEZ are in charge of the prosecution.

'Band of Brothers' Inspiration Richard "Dick" Winters Dies at 92, He Led Company E, 506th Parachute Regiment, 101st Airborne Division on D-Day Normandy.

PHILADELPHIA -- Richard "Dick" Winters, the Easy Company commander whose World War II exploits were made famous by the book and television miniseries "Band of Brothers," died last week in central Pennsylvania. He was 92, their legacy is dying with them."
Winters died following a several-year battle with Parkinson's disease, longtime family friend William Jackson said Monday.  William Guarnere, 88, said what he remembers about Winters was "great leadership."  "When he said 'Let's go,' he was right in the front," Guarnere, who was called "Wild Bill" by his comrades, said Sunday night from his South Philadelphia home. "He was never in the back. A leader personified."

Another member of the unit living in Philadelphia, Edward Heffron, 87, said thinking about Winters brought a tear to his eye.  "He was one hell of a guy, one of the greatest soldiers I was ever under," said Heffron, who had the nickname "Babe" in the company. "He was a wonderful officer, a wonderful leader. He had what you needed, guts and brains. He took care of his men, that's very important."

Winters was born Jan. 21, 1918 and studied economics at Franklin & Marshall College before enlisting, according to a biography on the Penn State website. Winters became the leader of Company E, 506th Parachute Regiment, 101st Airborne Division on D-Day, after the death of the company commander during the invasion of Normandy.

During that invasion, Winters led 13 of his men in destroying an enemy battery and obtained a detailed map of German defenses along Utah Beach. In September 1944, he led 20 men in a successful attack on a German force of 200 soldiers.

Occupying the Bastogne area of Belgium at the time of the Battle of the Bulge, he and his men held their place until the Third Army broke through enemy lines, and Winters shortly afterward was promoted to major, MORE FROM THIS SOURCE.....

BAND OF WARNER BROTHERS AT D-DAY INVASION OF NORMANDY & STE.-MERE-EGLISE WITH THE 507th Parachute Regiment 82nd AIRBORNE ON 6/06/44

Last of city's WWII 'band of brothers' dies, 3 of 4 Warners were involved in the D-Day invasion. "Their legacy is dying with them," said Brian Vojtisek, who is Broome County's director of Veterans Services.

James Warner, Robert Warner, Harry Warner & William Warner. By William Moyer Press & Sun-Bulletin Binghamton NY. James, Robert, Harry and William Warner were literally a military "band of brothers. " The four sons of Harry J. and Katherine Warner grew up at 93 Schubert St. on Binghamton's West Side.

After graduation from high school, all the brothers enlisted in the armed services and served in World War II; three were involved in the Allied invasion of Normandy in 1944. Like so many World War II veterans, though, members of the local "band of brothers" have all gone to graveyards, every one.

U.S. Coast Guard veteran William Warner, who was the youngestand last surviving of the male siblings, died Feb. 18 at his homein Dearborn, Mich., a family member said. He graduated from Binghamton Central High in 1943 and was a retired executive with the Ford Motor Co.

William, 82, was one of two Warner brothers who settled elsewhere after World War II. Harry, also a Central High graduate who died 11 months ago, moved to Dallas after he got married. James, the oldest brother, who died in 1991, and Robert came home to Binghamton after the war. At one time, James worked for Koehler Manufacturing Co., and Robert, who died in 1995, was a U.S. Postal Service employee. As each Warner brother died through the years -- added to the deaths of all World War II veterans who are buried at a rate of 1,500 a day -- the curtain continued to drop on an entire generation that changed culture and society after America's defining war.

"Their legacy is dying with them," said Brian Vojtisek, who is Broome County's director of Veterans Services. "Their stories are dwindling down to footnotes in history." In its most recent report in late 2006, the U.S. Census reported 3.9million living World War II veterans, out of 16 million who served between Dec. 1, 1941, and Dec. 31, 1946.   The average age of living World War II vets is 83. In 13 years, the number of living World War II vets is expected to drop to 283,000.

A SILENT GENERATION; Despite their honorable service records, the Warner brothers carried their combat experiences to their graves, said Robert's son, Bill Warner,(private investigator) 59, of Sarasota, Fla. "Not one of them ever told me anything about it," said Bill Warner(Sarasota private investigator), who graduated from BinghamtonNorth High School in 1964. "Not a word. Forget about it; it was something they had to do. They did it; that was it."

That's not unusual for combat veterans, said Vojtisek, especiallythe World War II generation,"You don't hear specific stories about how horrific their experiences were. It's locked in the back of their minds," he said."For that generation, that was how many of them dealt with it.

The first time Bill Warner watched the movie "Saving PrivateRyan," he understood why it was difficult for his father anduncles to talk about their war time experiences."When I saw the movie, I was stunned. I just never knew what itwas all about or what they had to deal with or exactly howhorrible it was," said Bill Warner, who worked for Warehouse Carpet when he lived in Johnson City NY, before moving to Sarasota Fl in 1988.

"I wish they would have talked about it. "The movie, directed by Steven Spielberg, chronicled an Army rescue mission to find paratrooper Pvt. James Ryan and send him home after three of his brothers were killed in combat. Unlike the fictional Mrs. Ryan in the movie, Katherine Warner did not lose any sons in combat. Katherine, a house wife, kept four Blue stars in the front window of the family's Schubert Street home to wait for her sons' return. She and her husband, Harry, who worked for Endicott Johnson Shoe Corp., also had a daughter, Mary Ann Warner, who was a registered nurse. Harry died in the mid-1960s; Katherine lived in the Schubert Street house until the mid-1970s when she moved to a nursing home.

AT WAR AND HOME; Robert, William and Harry Warner were involved in the D-Dayinvasion of Normandy. James probably arrived in the war zonesometime after the initial assault. From air and sea, Allied troops invaded Normandy's beaches on June 6, 1944, with 5,300 ships, nearly 11,000 airplanes, about 50,000 military vehicles and 154,000 troops. The strategy was to establish five beachheads as gateways into the German-occupied territory. The assault eventually opened Western Europe to Allied forces and turned the tide against Adolf Hitler.

With two combat assaults under its belt, the 82nd Airborne Division was now ready for the most ambitious airborne operation of the war so far, as part of Operation Neptune, the invasion of Normandy. The 82nd Airborne Division conducted Operation Boston, part of the airborne assault phase of the Overlord plan.

In preparation for the operation, the division was reorganized. Due to a need for integrating replacement troops, rest, and refitting following the fighting in Italy, the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment was not assigned to the division for the invasion. Two new parachute infantry regiments, the 507th and the 508th, were attached to provide it, along with the 505th, a three-parachute infantry regiment punch.

On June 5, 1944 (just hours before midnight) and June 6, 1944, these paratroopers, parachute artillery elements, and the 319th and 320th Glider Field Artillery Battalions, boarded hundreds of transport planes and gliders to begin the largest airborne assault in history.

In the early hours of June 6, 1944, paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division dropped into Ste.-Mère-Église, a town of 1,500 astride a road network a few miles from the invasion sector called Utah Beach. Their mission was to block German troops from attacking the American infantrymen arriving at dawn in the vanguard of the D-Day invasion. By about 4:30 a.m., the paratroopers had seized the town, and Lt. Col. Edward Krause of the 505th Parachute Infantry raised an American flag outside the town hall.

* Paratrooper Army Pvt. Robert Warner, who was in his early 20s at the time, landed in Normandy (Ste.- Mere- Eglise) with the 507th Parachute Infantry (82nd Airborne). He had enlisted in April 1942 after graduation from the former St. Patrick Academy High School in Binghamton. A newspaper story reported him as getting injured in combat, although his injuries were not life-threatening.

* Paratrooper Robert Warner of the 507th Parachute Regiment 82nd Airborne received the "American Service Medal", the "Distinguished Unit Badge", the "European African Middle Eastern Service Medal" and a "Purple Heart".  Paratrooper Robert Warner of the 507th Parachute Regiment 82nd Airborne was involved with the Normandy Invasion and Trooper Robert Warner went onto fight at the Battle of the Bulge – The Ardennes Offensive, Rhineland and in Central Europe, Robert F. Warner a trooper with the 507th PIR received a purple heart on March 24th, 1945 for injuries received in combat at Operation Varsity – The Airborne Assault on the Rhine, CLICK ON IMAGE ABOVE TO ENLARGE PHOTO, see his service record above, “Purple Heart ETO 24 Mar 45″.

Bill Warner remembered his father, Robert Warner, as a sports fan. "He was very sports-minded, a big Yankees fan, a big-time golfer," he said."When he was older, he was still shooting in the low 80s."

* During the invasion, Seaman William (Bill) Warner was stationed on a Coast Guard cutter in the English Channel. The cutter and crew helped rescue Allied troops during the critical days of the invasion, according to a newspaper story in August 1944. Williamwas in his late teens at the time. After the war, he graduated from Binghamton University in 1951. He had attended Binghamton Central at the same time as science fiction writer Rod Serling of "Twilight Zone" fame.

* Like his brother Robert, Harry Warner was also in his early 20s at the time of Normandy. Harry was a petty officer aboard a Navy destroyer that guarded Allied vessels from Nazi U-boats. Afterthe war, he returned to Binghamton and married Elizabeth Ann Brink in November 1956. The wedding drew a lot of newspaper attention -- even a pre-nuptial story about the attendants and the color scheme. The bride was the daughter of Broome County Judge Robert O. Brink. The couple moved to Dallas where Harry became an executive with the Equitable Life Insurance Co.

* Army Lt. James Warner was the first of the brothers to enlist. He began active duty on April 23, 1941, and served in England for 14 months with the Army Medical Corps. James, who was in his late 20s at the time of the D-Day invasion, probably arrived in the war zone after the initial assault. While he lived in the Binghamton area after the war, James once headed the Chamber of Commerce's Business-Industry-Education program that connected high school students with local business and corporate leaders for a real-world learning experience.  "They are all gone now," Bill Warner said. "An era has ended.
