A Portugal and global newsmagazine providing up to date information on current affairs and the latest news. In Portuguese.

In Portugal, the action of cibervigilantes is still timid when compared with what is happening in the U.S., where the phenomenon has reached unmanageable proportions.

Bill Warner, an American private detective, who lives in Florida, he became famous, not because it is effective to discover their unfaithful husbands, but that it identified ten sites of organizations bombers.

Warner told the VISION that spends about 20 hours to investigate Web pages, work that requires the use of machine translation Arabic and Persian. “

Only after several months of research, that I began to understand how these organizations work,” describes. “I found Al Qaeda sites hosted on servers in Columbia [South Carolina], New York, Phoenix, Boston and Charlotte,” said the detective.

One of the sites, according to television network Fox News, contain text, images and videos related to plans to attack U.S. troops in Iraq. “Currently, this is how Al Qaeda is the recruitment of militants,” says Warner. “Candidates do not need to go to a training camp in Afghanistan, to learn to make a bomb. It’s all explained in the sites.” The work of private detective has deserved the highest praise and the harshest criticism.

Michael Radu, the American Institute of Policy Research International, said publicly that the government already spends too much time trying to find thousands of websites that contain messages terrorists.”It is unlikely that the cibervigilantes find something that discontent. Probably will only hinder the authorities,” he said on Fox News.
Already Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Felter, American Military Academy and an expert on terrorism, believes that “the greater the number of people to combat the terrorist threat, the better.”

The attack on the twin towers of New York on 11 September 2001, has boosted the number of cibervigilantes terrorism.

Shortly after the attacks, Judge Shannen Rossmiller, 41, decided to learn Arabic and change the routine of their mornings. His three children never suspected that, in the virtual world, the mother controlled 30 characters, all of them Muslim and anti-American radicals.

This is how we Rossmiller has become the most respected and feared cibervigilante is asked frequently to participate in seminars sponsored by the FBI.

In July 2007, the home of Rossmiller investigations led to the arrest of Michael Reynolds, an American who tried to obtain funds from Al Qaeda to blow up a pipeline network.

Reason: did not agree with the war in Iraq. During an online chat, Reynolds, revealed his plan to Hani, one of the characters created by Rossmiller. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Another made the judge of Montana was the arrest of Ryan G. Anderson, a member of the National Guard American.

In 2005, the cibervigilante was done through funding mandated by bin Laden, promising to Anderson large sums of money in exchange for intelligence on American tanks. The military finally accepted the deal and, months later, was sentenced to life imprisonment. Despite having been repeatedly threatened with death, Rossmiller testified at trial. Due to the pressure that had been launched, the judge had health problems. It is estimated that this woman has provided information to 214 investigations into terrorism.

The FBI, that does not officially admit their collaboration, while recognizing that Rossmiller was the only citizen to develop private investigations imposing the arrest of terrorists.

Report: Radical Imam Anwar al-Awlaki Detained at JFK Airport in 2002, He’s America’s Osama bin Laden and we let him go, al-Awlaki links to Ziyad Khaleel aka Ziyad Sadaqa in 1999 whose roommate was Muneer Arafat later the Imam at Sarasota Fl Mosque and 9/11 hijackers.

Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical Muslim imam who ministered to at least three 9/11 hijackers, the Fort Hood shooter and the crotch-bomber, was taken into custody at JFK Airport on a felony arrest warrant in 2002.

 Even though Awlaki had been on the FBI’s radar for years, he was let go, most likely because of intervention by Saudi Arabia, classified documents and interviews reveal. Now he continues to train new “martyrs” in Yemen.

“We were stunned” that he was let go, said Ray Fournier, a federal agent who has been tracking Awlaki as part of a joint terrorism task force. “He was a high-value target. Everybody was excited about the prospect of hooking this guy up under a [criminal] charge to motivate a conversation with him regarding his relationship with the [9/11] hijackers.”

Awlaki, 38, was born in New Mexico and raised as a teen in Yemen. Fournier, then a Diplomatic Security Service agent, discovered that he lied about his place of birth on an application for a US Agency for International Development grant, receiving $20,000 a year to attend engineering classes at Colorado State University in the early 1990s. Awlaki turned to radical Islam instead, preaching at mosques in Fort Collins, Colo., and San Diego.

He attracted the FBI’s attention in 1999, because of alleged contact with an al Qaeda agent who bought a satellite phone for Osama bin Laden (Ziyad Khaleel aka Ziyad Sadaqa purchased the phone for bin-Laden, in 1999 his roommate was Muneer Arafat who became the Imam at the Sarasota Fl Mosque in March 2000 just prior to Mohamed Atta ands all showing up in nearby Venice Fl) . But the investigation was closed the next year because of lack of evidence.

Ziyad Khaleel aka Ziyad Sadaqa purchased a $7,500.00 satellite phone and 400 min. of time and had it sent to Osama bin-Laden for use in the 1998 US Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania. In May 1998, Ziyad Sadaqa aka ziyad Khaleel bought a battery pack for the phone, and shipped it to Bin Laden via a man in Washington (Tarik Hamdi), prosecutors said. Osama bin Laden uses a satellite phone to direct al-Qaeda’s operations.
The phone—a Compact M satellite phone, about the size of a laptop computer—was purchased by a student in Virginia named Ziyad Khaleel for $7,500 using the credit card of a British man named Saad al-Fagih. After purchasing the phone, Khaleel sent it to Khalid al-Fawwaz, al-Qaeda’s unofficial press secretary in London (see Early 1994-September 23, 1998).

Al-Fawwaz then shipped it to bin Laden in Afghanistan. [CNN, 4/16/2001] It appears US intelligence actually tracks the purchase as it occurs (see November 1996-Late December 1999), probably because an older model satellite phone bin Laden has is already being monitored (see Early 1990s).

Bin Laden’s phone (873682505331) is believed to be used by other top al-Qaeda leaders as well, including Ayman al-Zawahiri and Mohammad Atef. Al-Fawwaz also buys satellite phones for other top al-Qaeda leaders around the same time. Though the calls made on these phones are encrypted, the NSA is able to intercept and decrypt them. As one US official will put it in early 2001, “codes were broken.”

Ziyad Khaleel set up numerous web sites for the Palestine movement and especially Hamas in Orlando Fl, from 1999 to 2000 approx. he also shows up in Sarasota Fl on several occasinos to meet with Muneer Arafat at the Islamic Society of Sarasota and Bradenton (ISSB).

While in San Diego Fournier said Awlaki met at his mosque with Nawaf al-Hazmi and Khalid al-Mihdhar who would go on to hijack the plane that was crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11. “They weren’t discussing tabouli recipes,” said Fournier, who believes Awlaki knew of the 9/11 plot in advance.

In early 2001, Awlaki took over the pulpit at the Saudi-funded Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center, which is located in Virginia, not far from the Pentagon. Hazmi followed him there. He and another Saudi hijacker, Hani Hanjour, pilot of the plane that hit the Pentagon, got help from Awlaki’s mosque obtaining housing and identification.

In post-9/11 interviews with the FBI, Awlaki denied having contact with the hijackers in Virginia, and said that although he met with Hazmi several times in San Diego, he doesn’t remember any specifics of what they discussed. The FBI let Awlaki go, but he remained on a watch list.

Meanwhile, Fournier was working up a warrant on the passport violation related to Awlaki’s schooling. In 2002, Awlaki left the United States for England and later Saudi Arabia. On Oct. 10 of that year, he returned and was detained at JFK. more from this source…………..

Sarasota Mosque That Raised Money for Families of Suicide Bombers And Hosted Terrorists Has A New Larger Mosque Coming Up Out Of The Ground.

Before arriving in Boca Raton, Muneer Arafat was the Imam of the Islamic Society of Sarasota and Bradenton (ISSB) mosque. The mosque is located an hour south of the Islamic Academy of Florida (on Lockwood Ridge Rd in Sarasota Fl), one of the institutions that Al-Arian was using to funnel money to the terrorist group Palestinian Islamic Jiahd (PIJ).

From a JTTF investigation started in Sarasota during February 2003 with information provided by private investigator Bill Warner comes the following details, Monday, July 24, 2006. FLORIDA “HOLY MAN” MUNEER ARAFAT TERROR LINKS; Muneer Kazem Arafat, Imam at Sarasota Mosque and then Boca Raton Mosque, was born in Kuwait on 5/10/1963 and the family eventually moved to Jordan. Muneer Arafat claims he is a Jordanian born in Kuwait of Palestinian decent BUT not related to Yasser Arafat.

Muneer Kazem Arafat was arrested in November 2002 in Sarasota for overstaying his visa. A Federal official from St. Louis was present for his arrest, weeks later he was released.

BOP..Inmate Locator – Locate Federal inmate Muneer Kazem Arafat

Arafat first began his career in the US in St. Louis and Columbia, MO. In St. Louis he became a well-known lecturer at different Masjids and built up quite a following. He gave lectures at local mosques that almost exclusively focused on jihad week in and week out and this got him into trouble with Sheikh Muhammad Nur of the Islamic Foundation of Greater St. Louis who at one point banned him from giving lectures at the Gateway Masjid. They would butt heads over and over again about other issues including Arafat’s dishonesty about his religious education and immigration status.

 Muneer Arafat is an al-Qaeda operative he is paid member of the Committee for the Defense of Legitimate Rights (CDLR) same as Tarik Hamdi is a CDLR member and Ziyad Sadaqa aka Ziyad Khaleel, Muneer Arafat’s ex-roomate, was a CDLR member, same as Rafiq Sabir the “Doc” who was arrested at the Boca Raton Mosque that Arafat was the Imam.

Two al Qaeda operatives, Ziyad Khaleel, his photo above, and Tarik Hamdi, have been involved with both the CDLR and the ARC. The Advice and Reformation Committee (or “ARC”) and the Committee for the Defense of Legitimate Rights (or “CDLR”) are both Saudi-dissident groups with ties to Osama bin Laden. Both organizations seek to overthrow the Saudi government to replace the regime with an even more strict brand of Islam. Khaleel had links to more radical elements. He advertised his modest apartment near the University of Missouri as the local headquarters for the Committee for the Defense of Legitimate Rights.

Charges against Tarik Hamdi focus on a series of alleged omissions in Hamdi’s naturalization papers, as well as information he submitted on mortgage-loan applications. According to the indictment in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Tarik Hamdi did not state on his naturalization form that in 1994 he had been the U.S. representative for the Committee for the Defense of Legitimate Rights in Saudi Arabia, a London-based organization that has embraced many of Osama bin Laden’s views.
Hamdi has been under federal investigation for several years, stemming from his work at the International Institute of Islamic Thought in Virginia. Hamdi was also accused of committing wire fraud by receiving mortgage loans by inflating his income on the applications. If found guilty of all the charges, he could face up to 20 years in jail, court officials said.

Muneer Arafat, the Iman at the Islamic Center of Boca Raton and a frequent visitor in Sarasota Fl, had a roommate and associate by the name of Ziyad Khaleel aka Ziad Sadaqa in Columbia MO, see following information; Ziyad Khaleel AKA Ziad Sadaqa, received $6,000.00 from Yasser Arafat and the Palestine National Liberation Movement–Nablus Movement, to further his University studies (computer studies).

Ziyad Khaleel AKA Ziyad Sadaqa was at the Univ. of Missouri and was a roommate of Muneer Arafat in the St. Louis MO area during 1996 to 1999. Public records show U.S. addresses for Khaleel going back to 1993 in Columbia, Michigan and ORLANDO Florida.

“Khalil Ziyad” is actually known in the United States as Ziyad Khaleel (a.k.a. Ziyad Sadaqa, a.k.a Ziyad Abdulrahman). Public records reveal that he was associated with a variety of addresses in Orlando, Detroit, Columbia (Missouri), and Denver. Khaleel was also responsible for administering a variety of the most radical Islamic Web sites on the Internet.

At various points in the late 1990s, according to Internic/Network Solutions database records, Khaleel was the administrative and billing contact of the official Hamas Web site (  ), the Algerian Islamic Salvation Front (FIS) Web site (  ), the Web site of Liberty for the Muslim World (  ), and the Palestine Times Web site (  ).

Saturday, July 29, 2006, ORLANDO RESIDENT IS AL-QAEDA AGENT LINKED TO ZIYAD KHALEEL. AL-QAEDA AGENT/USED CAR DEALER IN NAIROBI was a Orlando high school graduate, Ihab Mohamed Ali aka Nawawi; Nawawi was arrested in May 1999 (still being held, no trial) after he returned from Nairobi, he was working as a taxi driver in Orlando, Florida (in Nairobi a car business was set up to create income. Wadih el Hage created a charity organization) .

Investigators discover recent ties between him and high-ranking al-Qaeda leaders, and suspect he was a “sleeper” agent.

Ali is linked to the terrorist leader Ziyad Khaleel, the onetime resident of east Orange who ordered and purchased the satellite phone used by bin Laden and his associates before and after the 1998 embassy bombings in Africa (photo below), according to court testimony.

Ali and Khaleel — both naturalized U.S. citizens — did meet at a local mosque, a Khaleel relative who still lives in Orlando told the Orlando Sentinel, he said the pair met during prayer sessions at the Islamic Society of Central Florida . [DOC] INVESTIGATION FINDS A WEB OF ORLANDO TIES.

NY terror suspect Adis Medunjanin yells Allah Akbar before attempting suicide at 90 mph, did Adis Medunjanin visit Mississauga Ont. terror central in Canada with Najibullah Zazi ?

10 January 2010, Bridge ‘terror’ thug’s Allah cry. Did Adis Medunjanin, 25, visit Mississauga Ont. terror central in Canada with Najibullah Zazi ?

A Queens man tied to a suspected al Qaeda-trained terrorist may have been trying to kill himself when he crashed his car into the back of another at the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, law enforcement sources said.

Bosnian-born US citizen Adis Medunjanin, 25, called 911 as he sped erratically away from federal agents through Queens streets at up to 90 mph.

“We love death more than you love life!” he exclaimed in Arabic. Medunjanin also praised Allah moments before he rear-ended another vehicle, sources said. Police are investigating the bizarre crash as a possible suicide attempt by the frantic Medunjanin, in the wake of a federal raid on his Queens home.

Medunjanin, 24, a recent graduate of Queens College, and Zarein Ahmedzay, 25, had been under intense surveillance in their homes since September when their former Flushing HS classmate Najibullah Zazi (all 3 went to "Terror High in Flushing") was arrested on suspicion of plotting a new 9/11-style attack in New York.

The latest twist in the case began Thursday afternoon, when neighbors said seven federal agents showed up at Medunjanin’s two-bedroom co-op where he lives with his parents. “They wanted his passport to document his travels,” a law enforcement source said of the raid by the FBI-NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force.
About an hour after the feds confiscated the passport and left, the Bosnian-born Medunjanin got into his car and was tailed by agents. He accelerated to get away from them until the crash. Then he fled on foot until he was chased down by members of the task force and hospitalized for minor injuries, police said.
He initially was charged only with fleeing the scene of an accident, but later Adis Medunjanin, 25 was charged with providing material support to terrorism when arraigned in Brooklyn federal court. His lawyer, Robert Gottlieb, fumed about a lack of information. Medunjanin, also known as "Mohammed," was arrested by FBI agents on Friday, along with taxi driver Zarein Ahmedzay. Both are alleged associates of Najibullah Zazi, a Denver airport shuttle driver indicted last year for planning a bombing spree around the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

Anti-terror experts called the Zazi case one of the most serious threats since the 9/11 attacks. They said Zazi took bomb-making classes from al Qaeda, then returned to the United States to buy beauty supplies in a Denver suburb to make peroxide-based explosives.

Prosecutors said he tried to mix (TATP) explosives in a hotel room in early September, then drove to New York to carry out an attack, possibly on the transit system, they said, more from this source...............

Did Adis Medunjanin, 25, visit Mississauga Ont. terror central in Canada with Najibullah Zazi ?

Najibullah Zazi and his Queens Al-Qaeda Cell Plotted 9 Backpack Bombs Intended For The NY Subway System And Elsewhere To Kill “As Many People As Possible”. The terror plot unearthed after raids on three Queens homes involved operatives detonating nine explosives-laden backpacks to kill “as many people as possible.” “They were going to blow up several places simultaneously and take out as many people as possible — a large number of people,” a federal law-enforcement official said.
Private Investigator Bill Warner Quoted in Canadian Press Article on U.S. Terrorist Najibullah Zazi Trips to Mississauga Ont. Terror Central in Canada. Ottawa keeps mum on U.S. terror suspect’s reported Canadian connection. By Sunny Freeman, THE CANADIAN PRESS,, Updated: September 26, 2009 4:53 PM

 TORONTO – Officials on both sides of the border erected a wall of silence Saturday over word that an Afghan immigrant arrested on terrorism-related charges in the United States made at least two trips to Mississauga Canada.

The reference to Najibullah Zazi’s trips to Canada was almost made in passing Friday by U.S. prosecutor Tim Neff during a Denver court hearing. Zazi is accused of plotting to use weapons of mass destruction to attack commuter trains in New York City to coincide with the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. A private investigator in the U.S., who touts himself as a specialist in tracking down suspected terrorists, as well as suspected philanderers, said the potential Mississauga connection is a “red-flag.” “That’s terrorist central in Canada,” said Bill Warner, a private investigator who boasts he has worked with the FBI on cases involving terrorism.

“If he was in that city, that’s one of the key spots in Canada for these terror connections and they link back into Atlanta, Chicago, Toledo,” Warner said. The FBI wouldn’t confirm Warner’s credentials, saying it could not reveal who the agency works with as a matter of policy.

Over the summer, he and three associates went from one beauty-supply store to another in a Denver suburb buying chemicals to make explosives like those that killed dozens of people in transit bombings in London and Madrid, investigators said. Mississauga Home to Al-Qaeda in Canada, American Terrorists Such As Omar Hammami, Syed Haris Ahmed & Najibullah Zazi Continue To Meet Angry Individuals in "Terror Central."

Mississauga 2010...Fanatic convert to terrorism spent year in Toronto, Omar Hammami aka Abu Mansour “Al-Amriki” lived in the Somali Immigrant Community of Mississauga. TORONTO STAR….One of the most visible leaders of an Al Qaeda-affiliated terrorist militia in Somalia spent a year in Toronto ingratiating himself into the Somali immigrant community as a convert to Islam. Omar Hammami – known to followers as Abu Mansour “Al-Amriki” (the American) – ate at Somali restaurants and prayed in Somali mosques. He married a Toronto woman of Somali origin and had a daughter with her.

Abu Mansour al-Amriki aka Omar Hammami the Al-Shabaab Webmaster Via Daphne AL Travelled To Mississauga Suburb of Toronto Same Place NYC Subway Bomber Najibullah Zazi Went, Terror Central in Canada Says PI Bill Warner. FBI Director: Al Qaeda-Linked Somali Group Could Attack U.S.; In early September 2000, FOX News exclusively identified the American mouthpiece for al-Shabaab as a native of Daphne, Ala. Born Omar Hammami, the big-eared and bright-eyed teenager now goes by the name Abu Mansour al-Amriki, or simply "The American."
After FOX News uncovered al-Amriki's identify, his family told a local TV station in Mobile, Ala., that their son traveled to Somalia with his wife but lost his passport there, where he became indoctrinated by al-Shabaab. One source within Mobile's Muslim community said that, after dropping out of college, Hammami travelled to Mississauga Toronto, where he eventually married a Somali woman and became indoctrinated there, (Mississauga Suburb of Toronto) by "angry" individuals. Both Hammami's family and the source within Mobile's Muslim community said Hammami has not spoken to his family in years, more from this source...........

Mississauga 2009 – Officials on both sides of the border erected a wall of silence Saturday over word that an Afghan immigrant Najibullah Zazi arrested on terrorism-related charges in the United States made at least two trips to Mississauga Canada. 11 attacks.

They say Zazi was stopped by police Sept. 10 as he entered New York, and he dropped his plans for an attack once he realized that law enforcement was on to him. Neff did not give any other details on the Canadian trips and a spokesman said in an email later Friday that he had no comment on them. Reports say that agents with the Canadian Security Intelligence Service were knocking on the doors of relatives of Zazi in Mississauga, Ont, west of Toronto.

“Canada monitors national security concerns and is vigilant in protecting against any terrorist threats,” he responded through email, after numerous attempts to contact him. “Beyond that, I cannot comment on any individual case before the courts, or any individual file that engages in national security.”

But a private investigator in the U.S., who touts himself as a specialist in tracking down suspected terrorists, as well as suspected philanderers, said the potential Mississauga connection is a “red-flag.” “That’s terrorist central in Canada,” said Bill Warner, a private investigator who boasts he has worked with the FBI on cases involving terrorism. “If he was in that city, that’s one of the key spots in Canada for these terror connections and they link back into Atlanta, Chicago, Toledo,” Warner said. The FBI wouldn’t confirm Warner’s credentials, saying it could not reveal who the agency works with as a matter of policy. Zazi is due to appear in court in Brooklyn on Tuesday to face the charges.

Mississauga 2006.....Two men arrested in Atlanta fit the new terrorist model. Syed Haris Ahmed, 21 years old, of Atlanta, was arrested March 23, 2006 after a grand jury returned an indictment charging him with material support of terrorism.

According to a U.S. Justice Department statement, Mr. Sadequee and Mr. Ahmed traveled to Mississauga Canada IN March 13, 2005, to meet with Islamist extremists. The two "stayed with an individual in Mississauga with whom they were conspiring concerning travel to terrorist camps, and met with three subjects of an FBI international terrorism investigation and discussed strategic locations in the United States suitable for a possible terrorist strike," the statement said, citing the complaint against Mr. Sadequee.

One senior FBI official says the duo's plans to launch an attack had reached an advanced stage when they were arrested. "The Atlanta guys were talking about attacking aviation towers in the hopes it would cause planes to crash into each other," the official said. "They were also talking about hitting refiners and were talking about ordering supplies."

Mississauga 2006.....Police recovered three tonnes of ammonium nitrate fertilizer in the 2006 Toronto-Mississauga raids. Commissioner McDonell noted that this amount was three times the amount used by Timothy McVeigh to destroy the federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995, the terror group was plotting to attack targets in Toronto, including the headquarters of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.

Al Qaeda has long maintained a presence in the large Toronto suburb of Mississauga, the home town for at least six of the 17 arrested suspects in the massive 2006 Toronto bomb plot, according to The Globe and Mail, the list includes:
Zakaria Amara, 20, of Periwinkle Crescent, Mississauga, Ontario;

Asad Ansari, 21, of Rosehurst Drive, Mississauga, Ontario;

Shareef Abdelhaleen, 30, of Lowville Heights, Mississauga, Ontario;

Qayyum Abdul Jamal, 43, of Montevideo Road, Mississauga, Ontario;
Ahmad Mustafa Ghany, 21, of Robin Drive, Mississauga, Ontario;

Saad Khalid, 19, of Eclipse Avenue, Mississauga, Ontario.

Mississauga was home to the Canadian branch of the Benevolence International Foundation, an Islamic charity dismantled by the U.S. after September 11 on grounds that its funds were being misdirected to al Qaeda.

An international organization with broad links to al Qaeda operations in Bosnia, the Philippines and Chechnya, among others, BIF was also known in Arabic as Al Birr Al Dawalia or Lanjat al Birr.

Mississauga Prior to 2001, Benevolence ran operations in several locations where al Qaeda command-and-control networks dominated the local landscape, including in Peshawar and Islamabad, Pakistan; Khartoum, Sudan; Afghanistan; Sarajevo and Zenica, Bosnia-Herzegovina; and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Foundation also maintained offices in Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Chechnya, China, Croatia, the Gaza Strip, the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, the Netherlands, Russia, Tajikistan, Yemen, the United Kingdom; and locations in Illinois, Florida and New Jersey in the United States.

As of 2002 Batterjee was head of the Al Shamal Islamic Bank in Sudan and was one of its largest shareholders. According to a 1996 U.S. State Department factsheet the bank was capitalized with $50 million by Osama bin Laden and other National Islamic Front members. Al-Qaeda members who were funded via this bank included Jamal al-Fadl and Wadih el-Hage.

In Canada, BIF also maintained a significant presence, with offices at 2465 Cawthra Rd., #203, Mississauga, Ontario, as well as locations at 3 King Street, South Waterloo, Ontario, and in Ottowa.

Next door to Benevolence, at 2445 Cawthra Road, were the offices of Human Concern International, described as "the first Islamic charity in North America to provide funds to the" mujahideen in Afghanistan, starting in 1979 (Burr and Collins, Alms for Jihad).

Mississauga's Ahmed Khadr, an HCI employee who immigrated to Canada from Egypt in the 1970s, was also an EIJ operative and an "colleague of Osama bin Laden," according to an FBI affidavit. Khadr split his time between Canada and Pakistan. His sons received Canadian citizenship and also became involved in jihadist causes.

Khadr worked for HCI during the 1980s and 1990s, mostly out of Pakistan, according to the FBI. HCI says it severed the relationship in 1995 after Khadr was accused of involvement in a terrorist attack in Pakistan, according to The National Post, a Canadian newspaper. HCI, which has never been formally charged with supporting terrorism, continues to maintain its offices at Cawthra Road and denies that any of its funds were ever used for terrorism.

Ahmed's son, Abdullah Khadr, was arrested in December 2005 by Canadian police to face charges for allegedly purchasing munitions and explosives on behalf of al Qaeda in 2003. Another son, Abdurrahman Khadr, eventually became a CIA informant in Guantanamo Bay and Bosnia, according to PBS Frontline (interview).

Ahmed Khadr became a top al Qaeda leader, according to the affidavit, and helped mediate in the event of conflicts among bin Laden, the Taliban and mujahideen leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. Khadr was eventually given "operational responsibility" for organizing attacks on U.S. forces along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. He was reportedly killed in 2003.
