FDA NARROWS TOMATO SALMONELLA INQUIRY FINDS UNSANITARY CONDITIONS IN IMMOKALEE FL IN APRIL/08 THEN RETURNS IN JUNE/O8.

FDA narrows Salmonella inquiry, finds unsanitary conditions in Immokalee tomato fields in April/08, returns in June/08, the number of people sickened by Salmonella rose to 992 across the USA. The unsanitary working conditions in the tomato picking fields of Immokalee are a big consideration.

UPDATE. 7/04/2008
Officials with the FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have said the sheer complexity of the outbreak and the industry's vast international supply chain have hampered efforts to find the sources of contamination. In April 2008, before the first victim fell ill, federal agriculture authorities visited Florida (IMMOKALEE) packing houses and tomato farms on a special mission to assess food safety conditions. At a handful of stops near Immokalee — located in one of the domestic regions still considered a possible origin of the outbreak — they found "conditions and practices of concern," including the presence of domestic animals, problems with the water system and poor sanitation, agency officials said.

All facilities corrected the problems immediately and none were deemed "egregious," FDA spokesman Michael Herndon said. Still, officials can't rule out the possibility that the salmonella may be linked to one of those locations (Immokalee). Red plum, red Roma and red round tomatoes harvested in the area during that period were later shipped out to market, and have yet to be cleared of suspicion. But they also have not been directly tied to the outbreak.

Taco Bell had problems with bad onions a while back , (
E. coli outbreak now in 6 states; agencies focus on Taco Bell December 11, 2006). Carnival Cruise Lines has had numerous problems with passengers getting gastro-intestinal illnesses , see here, they both get their tomatoes from Immokalee Fl. The tomato Salmonella contamination sweeping the USA is directly linked to human feces coming in contact with the tomatoes. There are no port-o-potties in the tomato picking fields of Immokalee Fl, you go where you stand, note the stained gloves of the tomato pickers in the above photos. The Immokalee tomato pickers work 12 hour shifts in the fields, 7 days a week, with few water breaks let alone bathroom breaks.

Immokalee's pickers, as the citrus and tomato workers are often called, live in plain sight, densely concentrated between First and Ninth Streets, close to the South Third Street pickup spot (for work in the fields). Those who don't live there are forced either to walk a great distance twice a day or to pay extra for a ride to work. As a result, rents near the parking lot in Immokalee are high. The town's largest landlord, a family named Blocker, owns several hundred old shacks and mobile homes, many rusting and mildew-stained, which can rent for upward of two hundred dollars a week, a square-footage rate approaching Manhattan's. (Heat and phone service are not provided.)

It isn't unusual for twelve Immokalee workers to share a trailer, the workers are employed by a "Contracting Company" such as the one run by El Diablo, (not the Tomato packing comapnay), who deducts everything from rent to food from the migrants check every week leaving them with as little as $20 by weeks end. Portions of the information above comes from the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, their website http://www.ciw-online.org/

The FDA was in Immokalee FL (about 50 miles East of Fort Myers along route #29) and Mexico this weekend, they are looking at several tomato growers, but at this point there is no direct link for the nationwide outbreak of Salmonella from tomatoes.

The FDA would not reveal which farms or area of Florida it will be investigating. But the government has already said that the Florida tomatoes in question are largely those that came from Homestead and the
Immokalee area in central Florida because they were in production at the time the outbreak started in April.
As of June 13, the FDA has identified the following counties, states and countries as safe producers and their tomatoes were not the source of the Salmonella outbreak : Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida (counties of: Jackson, Gadsden, Leon, Jefferson, Madison, Suwannee, Hamilton, Hillsborough, Polk, Manatee, Hardee, DeSoto, Sarasota, Highlands, Pasco, Sumter, Citrus, Hernando, Charlotte), Georgia,
Hawaii, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey ,New York , New Mexico, Nebraska, North Carolina ,Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee ,Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Belgium ,Canada, Dominican Republic ,Guatemala ,Israel, Netherlands, and Puerto Rico.

Two Florida counties that are noticeably missing from the above list are Lee County and Collier County where Immokalee is located with several tomato growers.

As in other sectors of the food economy, the production and distribution of South Florida's tomato crop has become increasingly concentrated. A handful of private firms supply millions of pounds of tomatoes, either directly or indirectly, to supermarkets and corporations such as Taco Bell, and Carnival Cruise Lines (which has had a history of passengers contracting gastro-intestinal illnesses see here).

Workers who plant, cultivate and harvest the state's tomatoes are paid 40 to 45 cents for every thirty-two-pound bucket they pick, a wage that has been virtually stagnant for the past twenty years. According to a recent National Agricultural Workers Survey, the median personal income for farm workers is only $5,000 to $7,500 a year.

IRAQI KURDS PUBLISH MORE PROOF OF SADDAM HUSSEIN LINKS TO AL-QAEDA LEADERSHIP, AYMAN AL-ZAWAHIRI

The Iraqi newspaper Kurdistani Nwe published a letter today on the front page from Saddam Hussein requesting a meeting with Al-Qaeda second in command Ayman Al-Zawahiri.

MEMRI reported on this letter from 2002: The Kurdish daily Kurdistani Nwe has published a 2002 letter from the Iraqi presidency that it says proves that there was cooperation between the regime of Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda.
The letter, which appeared on the paper's front page, was published by the intelligence apparatus of the Iraqi presidency and discussed an intention to meet with Ayman Al-Zawahiri in order to examine a plan drawn up by the Iraqi presidency to carry out a "revenge operation" in Saudi Arabia.

TUNISIANS (MUSLIMS) HAD PLANNED TO STRANGLE PROPHET MO CARTOONIST KURT WESTERGAARD.

Tunisians Had Planned To Strangle Prophet Cartoonist Kurt Westergaard
COPENHAGEN (AFP)--Two Tunisians detained in Denmark for allegedly plotting to kill a cartoonist who satirized the Prophet Mohammed, had planned to strangle their target, according to intelligence documents cited by media Thursday.

Documents belonging to the Danish PET intelligence agency indicate the two suspects, aged 26 and 36, had carefully planned the foiled attack on Kurt Westergaard (HIS PHOTO) earlier this year, free daily Nyhedsavisen wrote on its Web site.

The youngest of the two Tunisians was a martial arts expert who was supposed to strangle Westergaard, Nyhedsavisen wrote. The pair were arrested on Feb. 12 before the alleged plot could be put into practice. Westergaard, 73, was one of 12 cartoonists who drew caricatures of the prophet for a Danish newspaper in September 2005 that sparked angry and in some cases deadly protests across the Muslim world in early 2006.

His cartoon, which was considered the most controversial, features the prophet's head with a turban in the shape of a bomb with a lit fuse. It was widely republished after police foiled the murder plot last February. The Danish Justice Ministry has ordered the two Tunisians, who have been held in custody since their arrest more than four months ago, expelled without trial, which is permitted under Danish anti-terrorism laws introduced in 2002.

Both a district and an appeals court have ordered the two held in custody until their expulsion. The pair's lawyers have taken the case before the Supreme Court, which was expected to hand down its verdict on Friday. According to the Nyhedsavisen report, PET had secretly searched the 26-year- old Tunisian's home in October 2006 and had discovered a document in Arabic that proved the duo had meticulously planned an attack on Westergaard.

Among other things, the document showed they had staked out the cartoonist's home and had an overview of how many people lived there, his schedule and the fact that he didn't have a guard dog, the paper wrote.

HATE PREACHER AL-QAEDA LIUTENANT ABU QATADA WAS LAST NIGHT LIVIVNG IT UP AT POSH PLACE PAID FOR BY THE COUNTRY HE HATES, SEE VIDEO.

BILE-spewing al-Qaeda lieutenant Abu Qatada was last night living in the lap of luxury – paid for by the country he HATES. The Sun Newspaper. 6/19/08.

British taxpayers face a £1million-a-year bill to keep the hate preacher under “house arrest” after he was freed from jail. He has the run of a sprawling Edwardian house in a leafy West London road while Home Secretary Jacqui Smith battles to get him booted out of the country.

SEE Video here on his new "home" away from prison OR CLICK IMAGE.

Properties there sell for a whopping £600,000. Meanwhile the sponging fanatic is raking in benefits of £1,000 a month – and for two hours a day can roam the streets wearing an electronic tag. Jubilant Qatada, 48 – long branded Osama bin Laden’s No 2 in Europe – had been held in jail under anti-terror laws.

Spewing hate ...Qatada on video, but he walked free on Tuesday thanks to the Appeal Court, i
t backed a claim by the Jordanian-born extremist that deporting him to his homeland – where he was convicted in his absence of terror offences – breached his human rights. The Home Secretary – furious that the fanatic was also granted bail – is to appeal to the Lords to overturn the decision. Qatada has been warned he WILL go back to jail if he contacts al-Qaeda boss Bin Laden.

Another bail condition is that he stays away from fellow hate preacher Abu Hamza, 50 – who IS in jail for inciting murder. A recording of a rabble-rousing meeting in 2001 – the year of 9/11 – shows him in action with Hamza. Also on the bill at an unnamed mosque was third hatemonger Abu Izzadeen, 32 – currently locked up for inciting terror and fund-raising for jihad. Firebrand Omar Bakri – now exiled in Lebanon – and Saudi extremist Dr Mohammed al-Masari complete the “dream team”.

His terror credentials were reinforced by Spanish judge Baltazar Garzon who named him “spiritual head of the Mujahideen in Europe”. Shoe bomber Richard Reid and would-be 9/11 hijacker Zacharias Moussaoui were influenced by his rantings.

Qatada’s neighbours reacted with fury to the news that he is in their street. One, a Muslim, said: “It’s terrible. This man shames Islam. I’m worried terrorists will come here and make contact with him.” Another said: “What about MY human rights?”

ITALIAN PAPER EXAMINES AL-QAEDA'S USE OF THE INTERNET AS A GLOBAL MADRASA

Italian Paper Examines Al-Qa'Idah's (al-Qaeda) Use of Internet, "School of Terrorism Online: Combat Manuals, Forums, Videos"
Previously posted at jawa report see here

"This programme is still fine, they don't know where you're navigating from, or who you are..." Kamel and a friend were at their computers. DIGOS [General Investigations and Special Operations Division ITALY] monitored their conversation. "When I went on the Al-Qa'idah website," Kamel said, "they have a programme that conceals visitors to the website. It's translated into Arabic." The other man said, as he looked at his screen, "look, it says, click here if you don't want to be monitored."

The investigation into Kamel is still under way (which is not used his real name.) Police monitoring and analyses of his computer described the virtual jihad outpost that the subject of the inquiry created in the lounge of his home. Kamel processed 20,000 documents a week - combat manuals, martyrs' wills, Islamist forums. He examined the documents repeatedly, showed them to his friends, involved his young children.

This was a school in subversion on the Internet - run from an Italian city (Milan, terror central in Italy), but linked to Baghdad, Kabul, and Algiers. Nobody can yet say how many jihad outposts there arein anonymous rooms in Europe, the Orient, or the United States, or at what rate they are multiplying. This is Al-Qa'idah's virtual and elusive entrenchment.

Global madrasa
To begin with, it was a job for couriers. Starting with Bin Laden's first message after the attack on the Towers: recorded on a video cassette, entrusted to a succession of intermediaries, and eventually conveyed to journalists of the Arabic satellite television channels. This is what happened just seven years ago, but it already seems like prehistory.

The new Al-Qa'idah has abandoned couriers and has evolved by making full use of the Internet - a "powerful, swift, universal, and accessible" medium, a vehicle for "virtual connections that can become real." This is the process analysed by Corriere della Sera journalist Guido Olimpio in his book to be published by BUR tomorrow. Its title is "Al-Qa'idah.com" [al Qaeda.com].

They produce and reproduce audio and video on attacks, threats, ambushes, guerrilla warfare, instructions for manufacturing weapons, celebrations of martyrs. The label that manages the video and audio files of the most prominent leaders, "As Sahab," now produces a video every three days.

From a letter by Bin Laden to Mullah Omar, intercepted by the Americans in Afghanistan: 90 per cent of the battle will take place in the propaganda field. The Internet is a medium that provides the best guarantees. It is an ideological umbrella for those who will put the teachings into practice, albeit without direct contacts. A meeting place for militants and a forum for seeking recruits.

The Internet is a mirror of the new Al-Qa'idah (al-Qaeda) - amorphous, fragmented, and without any fixed hierarchy. The connections between the circulation of ideology and actions are variable.

Al-Qa'idah (al-Qaeda) "broadcasting"
In June 2007 the US forces broke into an apartment in Samara. They found 65 hard drives, 18 USB memory sticks, 500 CD-ROMs, and 12 computer stations. According to the Army spokesman, "it was a fully- fledged media centre. It was as operational as a television studio." It is the media front of international terrorism. It produces, then uses short-lived channels (servers scattered in very remote parts of the vote) to broadcast its material.

In Austria last March a nucleus of activists was dismantled broadcasting videos of the Iraqi guerrillas. They called themselves the "Global Islamic Media Front" and had managed to produce television newsreels, with a newsreader sitting in the studio. Olimpio says, in "alQaeda.com": "the watchword of this system is decentralization. A few individuals can create a trademark, and their container is then filled by associates. The propaganda network is a flexible phenomenon, capable of functioning without hierarchies. It is a mirror of the movement itself."

The most famous trademark is "As Sahab," the cloud. It conduct propaganda for both Al-Qa'idah and the Taleban. It announces on the Internet the broadcast of Usamah Bin-Ladin's videos and then puts them on the Web. On 16 December it invited supporters and journalists to submit questions to Ayman al-Zawahiri, who replied a few weeks later. It gave its latest display of sophistication and quality 27 January 2008, by broadcasting "Winds of Paradise," part two. It a documentary using animation, overdubbed voices, and shots from various angles, all designed to win recruits and to exalt the martyrs. Within the space of a few seconds it had spread across the Internet, hosted by 426 video websites.

SHIITES NOT AL-QAEDA BEHIND BAGHDAD TRUCK BOMBING AT MARKET KILLS 63...SEE INFO ON SHIITE USED CAR DEALERS IN TAMPA EXPORTING CARS TO IRAQ

Shiites not Al-Qaeda behind Baghdad bombing:
Posted 2 hours 47 minutes ago. The US military said that a deadly TRUCK bombing at a Baghdad bus stop was carried out by Shiite militiamen and not by Sunni militants loyal to Al Qaeda. The casualty toll from Tuesday's attack in the Shiite Al-Hurriyah neighbourhood of north Baghdad rose to 63 dead and more than 70 wounded. The US military said its intelligence indicated that the bombing was carried out by a renegade Shiite militia cell led by Haydar Mehdi Khadum Al-Fawadi in a bid to stop the resettlement of Sunni Arabs in the neighbourhood.

"We believe the attack was not conducted by AQI (Al-Qaeda in Iraq)," military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Steven Stover said in a statement. "Though vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices are a trademark of AQI, our intelligence, corroborated through multiple sources, is this atrocity was committed by a Special Groups cell led by
Haydar Mehdi Khadum Al-Fawadi."

Watch Video: Deadly car bomb explodes in Baghdad market CLICK IMAGES.
BAGHDAD - A powerful car bomb exploded in a crowded market area of Baghdad overnight, killing 51 people and wounding 75, in the deadliest attack in the Iraqi capital in months.

Police said the bomb was placed in a pickup truck parked next to minibus taxis near the main market in the predominantly Shi'ite neighbourhood of al-Hurriya in northwestern Baghdad. The explosion left a heap of smoking, mangled wreckage. At that time of day, the market is packed with shoppers buying food before returning home. Police said 63 people were killed and 75 wounded, including women and children.

A few weeks ago, the US military announced that violence in Iraq had dropped to a four-year low. The blast set fire to 20 shops and levelled a multi-storey building, a security source said. It damaged many vehicles and cut off electricity to the area. Ambulances raced back and forth taking casualties to nearby hospitals. US officials blamed Sunni Arab al Qaeda militants for the huge car bombs that regularly hit Baghdad in 2006 and 2007, at the height of sectarian conflict in Iraq.

MARKET BOMBINGS
Tuesday's attack was the worst in Baghdad since 68 people were killed in coordinated bombings in a packed shopping area in the capital in March.
A month before that, female bombers killed 99 people in attacks blamed on al Qaeda at two popular Baghdad pet markets. Al Qaeda attacks on markets in 2007 forced authorities to seal off many of them with concrete anti-blast barriers.

Recent history has demonstrated that there are few religious-ideological barriers in the world of international terrorism. The secular Ba'athist regime in Syria works closely with Hizballah, as a secular Ba'athist regime in Iraq has developed ties to al-Qaeda.

It would be a mistake to assume that Islamist international terror groups are driven primarily by the religious associations with radical Sunni or radical Shiite Islam. These groups have their own geopolitical interests in bridging this great Islamic divide - particularly their antipathy for the United States and its allies.

Since September of 2004 I have posted hundreds of articles about sex, crime, cheaters and radical Muslims linked to terrorism, unfortunately my web hosting company at the time, Verizon yellow pages, did not appreciate my work and in 2007 shut down my OLD website www.wbipi.com and turned off the directional arrows to the site.

Since that time I have turned to Yahoo websites, Google blog and World Press blog and continue posting articles about sex, crime, cheaters and terrorism to the new site at www.wbipi.com and this blog. Working as a private investigator in Sarasota, Fla, I spend part of the day chasing errant spouses and solving child custody cases and the rest of his time tracking down jihadis. Playing a game of Internet Whack-a-Mole, I have helped take down nine jihadi Web sites in the past six months, including one of the most important, Alhesbah, a principal forum for supporters of al-Qaeda.

What I have found over the years is that you can access even deleted postings and old websites by using the "WayBack Machine" , yes this is a real tool that allows you to search for any website that was ever on the Internet, pretty neat stuff here.

GITMO BECAME A TERROR TRAINING GROUND WITH A FULLY FUNCTIONAL AL-QAEDA CELL

How Guantánamo became a terror training ground with a fully functional al-Qaeda cell !
Side-by-side with violent extremists at Guantánamo, low-level detainees are being built into new fighting machines. And they hate the United States. Database: Read 66 detainee profiles
GARDEZ, Afghanistan -- Mohammed Naim Farouq was a thug in the lawless Zormat district of eastern Afghanistan. He ran a kidnapping and extortion racket, and he controlled his turf with a band of gunmen who rode around in trucks with AK-47 rifles. U.S. troops detained him in 2002, although he had no clear ties to the Taliban or al Qaeda. By the time Farouq was released from Guantánamo the next year, however — after more than 12 months of what he described as abuse and humiliation at the hands of American soldiers — he'd made connections to high-level militants.

In fact, he'd become a Taliban leader. When the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency released a stack of 20 "most wanted" playing cards in 2006 identifying militants in Afghanistan and Pakistan — with Osama bin Laden at the top — Farouq was 16 cards into the deck.
A McClatchy investigation found that instead of confining terrorists, Guantánamo often produced more of them by rounding up common criminals, conscripts, low-level foot soldiers and men with no allegiance to radical Islam — thus inspiring a deep hatred of the United States in them — and then housing them in cells next to radical Islamists.

Rear Adm. Mark H. Buzby, until recently the commanding officer at Guantánamo, acknowledged that senior militant leaders gained influence and control in his prison. "We have that full range of (Taliban and al Qaeda) leadership here, why would they not continue to be functional as an organization?" he said in a telephone interview. "I must make the assumption that there's a fully functional al Qaeda cell here at Guantánamo."

Afghan and Pakistani officials also said they were aware that Guantánamo was churning out new militant leaders. In a classified 2005 review of 35 detainees released from Guantánamo, Pakistani police intelligence concluded that the men — the majority of whom had been subjected to "severe mental and physical torture," according to the report — had "extreme feelings of resentment and hatred against USA."

The report warned that unless steps were taken to rehabilitate the men, they had the potential of "becoming another Abdullah Mehsud," a former Guantánamo detainee who became a high-ranking Taliban commander in the Pakistani tribal areas bordering Afghanistan. Mehsud killed himself with a grenade last July to avoid being taken prisoner by Pakistani troops.

"A lot of our friends are working against the Americans now, because if you torture someone without any reason, what do you expect?"
Issa Khan, a Pakistani former detainee, said in an interview in Islamabad. "Many people who were in Guantánamo are now working with the Taliban."

A NETWORK FOR RADICALIZING;
In interviews, former U.S. Defense Department officials acknowledged the problem, but none of them would speak about it openly because of its implications: U.S. officials mistakenly sent a lot of men who weren't hardened terrorists to Guantánamo, but by the time they were released, some of them had become just that.

HULK HOGAN AND HIS FAMILY RECEIVE VOICEMAIL THREATS FROM WHAT APPEARS TO BE FRANK CARUSO aka FRANK GRAZIANO, ""YOUR KID'S GONNA BLEED"

TMZ has obtained an audio of some threatening voicemails sent to Hulk Hogan by a person suspected to be Frank Caruso aka Frank Graziano.
"YOUR KID'S GONNA BLEED"
Frank Caruso aka Frank Graziano is the half brother of John Graziano, who suffered serious head injuries in Nick Hogan’s August 2007 car crash.

Reports Foxnews, Profanity-laced rants voicemails were played by Hogan family friend and radio host "Bubba the Love Sponge" on his radio show Monday morning, and were said to contain the voice of Frank Caruso aka Frank Graziano, brother of John Graziano, who suffered serious head injuries when Hogan's son Nick Bollea crashed his 1998 Toyota Supra into a tree after street racing.

Click here to listen to audio tape of threatening voicemails sent to Hogan family by what appears to be Frank Caruso.

Click here for Bay News Nine video of John Caruso's rant on tape.

Radio shock jock Bubba the Love Sponge Clem broadcast phone messages from a man insulting famed wrestler Hulk Hogan and his family, saying he wants his audience to know more about the people suing over an accident involving Hogan's son Nick. Clem said on his morning Tampa show today that the profanity-laced messages were left on Hogans' cell phone by a relative of John Graziano, 23, the Iraq war veteran who suffered severe brain damage in a crash blamed on Hogan's 17-year-old son Nick Bollea.

Edward Graziano, John's father, confirmed today that the voice is that of Frank Caruso, John's 32-year-old half-brother. Edward Graziano said Caruso is a child from his estranged wife's first marriage. Clem is a long-time friend of Hulk Hogan, but said on the air he wasn't necessarily acting as an advocate for Hogan. Rather, he said, he wanted to "get the word out" about people in the Graziano family and singled out Caruso.

He also chastised Tampa radio personality MJ Kelli, whose real name is Todd Schnitt, for giving Caruso a platform recently on Schnitt's show. Since Clem returned to the airwaves on WHPT, 102.5 FM, he has overtaken Schnitt in the Arbitron ratings in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater market. Schnitt has a show on WFLZ , 93.3 FM.

The playing of the recordings today comes three days after Clearwater police confirmed they were investigating allegations that a member of the Graziano family had threatened Hulk Hogan and his family over the telephone.
Clearwater public safety spokeswoman Elizabeth Daly-Watts would not elaborate today on the investigation. No charges have been filed.

In a civil lawsuit, the guardian for John Graziano is seeking millions in damages from Nick Bollea and his parents. Bollea was sentenced to eight months in jail after pleading no contest to reckless driving in the Aug. 26 wreck that injured passenger Graziano. In the recordings played on the Bubba the Love Sponge show, the caller is heard insulting Hogan, also known as Terry Bollea; his estranged wife, Linda; the couple's daughter, Brooke; and Nick Bollea.

The caller speaks with bravado – "It's over," "You disrespected the wrong person," "You ain't nothing" – but no specific threats of violence are heard.
Bubba said his show obtained the recordings from an official source. He mocked Caruso on the air as a man pretending to be a tough guy.

FEMALE TV REPORTER, CES DRILON, KIDNAPPED BY AL-QAIDA LINKED TERROR GROUP.

Drilon kidnappers want P15M by noon Tuesday
‘Mayor, I want to get out of here’

By Julie Alipala, Alcuin Papa Philippine Daily 06/17/2008
ZAMBOANGA CITY—Moro kidnappers tied up a tearful Ces Drilon and her cameraman and set a noon deadline Tuesday for the delivery of P15 million in cash ransom, a negotiator said Monday.

“Mayor, I want to get out of here,” Indanan Mayor Alvarez Isnaji quoted the 46-year-old Drilon as telling him. The ABS-CBN broadcast journalist is being held in a forested area on Jolo island, together with cameraman Jimmy Encarnacion and Mindanao State University Prof. Octavio Dinampo.
Isnaji said the Moro bandits announced their ultimatum after they saw Marines approaching on Saturday. The kidnappers repeated the deadline on Sunday and Monday. “Early this morning, they called again, as did Ces,” said Isnaji, who has been negotiating the release of the three hostages. “The kidnappers took a strong position and said that their ultimatum is only up to noon (Tuesday).”

The mayor said that Drilon, Encarnacion and Dinampo were “tied up again” and that their situation “was not good.” Philippine Daily Inquirer reporters in Zamboanga spoke by telephone with Isnaji, who was in Indanan. Isnaji said he talked to Drilon, whom he described as being “tearful” in an interview with The Associated Press. He said Drilon had told him she wanted to get out of the kidnappers’ lair, according to AP.

Drilon, Encarnacion, Dinampo and another ABS-CBN cameraman, Angelo Valderama, were kidnapped in Maimbung, Sulu, on June 8 while they were on the way to interview a top commander of the Abu Sayyaf bandit group. Valderama was freed on June 12 after a P2-million ransom was reportedly paid.

Negotiation at gunpoint;
Isnaji said the kidnappers told him that Drilon’s family had direct contact with them and had agreed to pay the ransom. But the mayor quoted Drilon as telling him that she only agreed to the ransom payment because the kidnappers were pointing a gun at her and that her family had no money, AP reported.

In a statement, however, the families of Drilon and Encarnacion denied they were negotiating with the kidnappers. “Only Mayor Isnaji is directly communicating with the kidnappers,” their statement said, according to AP. “We are counting on him for the release of Ces and Jimmy and continue to pray for his efforts.”

Isnaji said the kidnappers had not threatened to kill the hostages if the deadline for the payment of ransom was not met, but said that they could take a “strong position” and would dictate when they would act without giving details. “It would not be easy for us,” he said.

No money to pay;
Isnaji, a former Moro rebel commander, said Drilon appealed to him to work out her early release after she received reports that her abduction had affected her mother’s health. “She told me she was homesick and wanted to go home immediately. She was saddened after she learned that her mother had suffered a stroke,” Isnaji said.

ABS-CBN reiterates policy;
The ultimatum came after the military deployed troops and shelled a forested area on Sunday where the kidnappers were believed holding the hostages. Taken to the Sulu provincial hospital for treatment of shrapnel wounds were civilians Merna Abon, Wawan Ibni, Ismael Idjah, Apa Atan and Bia Bahari, according to Isnaji’s office.

In Manila, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. reiterated in a statement Monday that it would not pay any ransom for the victims, saying to do so would only “embolden kidnap for ransom groups to abduct other journalists, putting more lives at risk.” “ABS-CBN is doing everything it can to help them (Drilon and Encarnacion) and their families through this harrowing ordeal,” the statement said.

2 kidnappers identified;
In Camp Crame, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said it had identified two Abu Sayyaf members in the group that abducted Drilon and her crew.
Chief Supt. Sukarno Ikbala identified the two as Sulaiman Patta, alias Amah Ma’as and Abu Harris, and a certain Walid, alias Tuan Wals. Ikbala also said the Department of Interior and Local Government put up Monday a P1-million reward each for any information that would lead to the capture of the two suspects. Chief Supt. Nicanor Bartolome, PNP spokesperson, reiterated the government’s “no ransom” policy and said that the PNP had “taken cognizance” of the deadline.

Shelling a separate operation;
“The negotiations are taking their own course. If negotiation is the only way out then, we’ll give it a chance,” he said. In Camp Aguinaldo, the military reiterated that Sunday’s shelling in Jolo was not part of efforts to rescue Drilon and her group. Lt. Col. Ernesto Torres, Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesperson, told reporters Monday that the shelling had ceased.“It is a separate incident and it is part of the ongoing operation against the terrorist Abu Sayyaf. It was planned earlier and we are just pursuing that operation,” Torres said.

Moro kidnapper killed;
Also Monday, Army Maj. Gen. Nehemias Pajarito said Akiddin Abdusalam, a leader of the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front, was slain in a gun battle in Mindanao on Saturday. Two other gunmen escaped, Pajarito told reporters. Abdusalam had been accused in the kidnapping of three Italian missionaries: Luciano Benedetti who was abducted in Mindanao in 1998, followed by Giuseppe Pierantoni in 2001 and Giancarlo Bossi last year. All three were later freed unharmed after private negotiators paid unspecified ransoms. With reports from Leila Salaverria, Ed General, Inquirer Mindanao, Associated Press, Agence France-Presse

Fearing his days were "numbered" and his arrest imminent, the alleged ringleader of a homegrown terror cell wanted to forge ahead and build explosives to carry out a "mission" that included an attack on Ottawa, a Brampton court was told yesterday.

"I'm just gonna go all out with the mission call, man, like fully all out," he is overheard saying in an electronic intercept. "If we had more money, guy, I would have just strapped up, like, as many people as possible. ... 'Cause this is tense."

The tension had been mounting since he'd learned that two American associates were arrested on terrorism-related charges. It was just a matter of time before police moved in on him, he suspected.

That's why, on April 25, 2006 the alleged ringleader of the Toronto 18 spoke of preparing explosives destined for Ottawa with Mubin Shaikh, a police informant he believed was a co-conspirator in the plot. The explosives could be built within a week out of fuel containers filled with broken glass, nails, metal filings and ball bearings. He said he needed five guys for the mission.

He said he'd grown concerned since reading in the Toronto Star that two Georgia men, Syed Haris Ahmed and Ehsanul Sadequee, had been arrested after visiting Toronto in March 2005 to meet three "Islamic extremists."

The article said the men discussed terror strikes in the United States, including attacks on oil refineries and military bases, and planned to disable the Global Positioning System (GPS), which would disrupt military and commercial communications and air traffic.

During the intercept, the alleged ringleader suggests he is one of the three men referred to and says the Americans stayed with him for two weeks. He said Sadequee had attended high school in Ajax and that he was "very, very tight" with him. Contrary to the report, he said, they never discussed attacking oil refineries, but he did take credit for coming up with the GPS idea.

He went on to reveal that the Americans were planning to attack the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, adding, "That's pure airborne, man."

Fearing their arrest would lead police to his doorstep, the alleged ringleader told Shaikh, "My days are numbered." "If they come for me, man, there's gonna be a fricking shootout," he said. "I ain't goin' to no jail, man."

He also said that if a couple of officers died in a gun battle, that in itself would be "enough terror." In reality, authorities had been monitoring his movements for months, including two so-called terrorist training camps he allegedly organized outside the city.

He was arrested weeks later during a police sweep that netted 14 adults and four youths. Charges have since been stayed against four adults and three youths. Police say the members had been plotting truck bombs for GTA sites. The electronic intercepts were played by Crown Marco Mendicino at the trial of the remaining youth, as part of the prosecution's attempt to prove a terrorist cell existed.

Defence lawyer Mitchell Chernovsky says the alleged terror plot was a fantasy. Shaikh is to take the stand soon.

CONNECTING THE KILLERS: JIHAD IN NORTH AMERICA, TOLEDO TO CHICAGO TO ATLANTA TO TORONTO TO TAMPA, "THE THIRD LEVEL"

The members of the Toledo Terror cell were Khaleel Ahmed (his photo with handcuffs and woman on R.) his cousin Zubair Ahmed (no photo) both of Chicago and the 3 men from Toledo, Mohammad Amawi, 28, Marwan El-Hindi, 45, and Wassim Mazloum, 27 (their combined photo above), who now face maximum sentences of life in prison. Also linked to the cell are the two men from Atlanta, Syed Harris Ahmed (photo above smiling)) and Ehsaanul Sadequee (photo fat face with hat) who had planned to truck bomb the CDC in Atlanta and who directly link to the Toronto cell were 14 men are currently on trial for a terror bomb plot.

Due to the fact the Ahmed Mohamed in Tampa Fl (his photo yellow prison top)pled guility on the same day that the 3 Toledo terrorists were convicted, Friday 6/13/2008, he is a very strong contender to be part of this crew. Justice Department spokesman Dean Boyd said he couldn't comment on the Ahmed Mohamed plea agreement in Tampa. But he noted it was signed the same day federal prosecutors won terrorism convictions against three Ohio men. A federal jury in Ohio convicted Mohammad Zaki Amawi, 28, Marwan Othman El-Hindi, 45, and Wassim I. Mazloum, 27, of conspiring to commit terrorist acts against Americans overseas and other terrorism-related violations. The three were convicted of conspiring to kill or maim U.S. military personnel serving in Iraq, and conspiring to provide material support to terrorists. Amawi and El-Hindi were also convicted of distributing information regarding the manufacture or use of explosives, according to Boyd.

Mohammad Zaki Amawi, Marwan Othman El-Hindi and Wassim Mazloum (Mazloum was a Toledo used car dealer) link to Zubair A. Ahmed (Chicago) who links to Syed Haris Ahmed (Atlanta) who admitted to taking "casing videos" of Washington landmarks, including the U.S. Capitol, that ended up on the computer of a London terrorist, this whole gang links to one another in 4 major US cities, who link to Toronto where Syed Haris Ahmed traveled to hook up with the Toronto Terror Cell, all just one big happy family !

February 26, 2005: In Atlanta, Georgia, Ehsanul Islam Sadequee, 18, resident of Roswell, Georgia, buys two Greyhound bus tickets for himself and Syed Haris Ahmed, 21, of Dawsonville, Georgia. March 6, 2005: Together, Ahmed and Sadequee take a bus to Toronto, Ontario. They spent six days in the Toronto area with at least three people under surveillance by anti-terrorism authorities, including Fahim Ahmad and Jahmaal James. According to published reports, the Atlanta men, Ehsanul Islam Sadequee and Syed Haris Ahmed, had met with Fahim Ahmad, who later emerged as the alleged leader of the Toronto 18. They also met Jahmaal James, a convert who reportedly traveled to Pakistan for marriage, but is accused of having gone there to attend a terrorist training camp.

The three Toledo men accused of terrorism activities were not manipulated by a government informant and instead were planning acts for a holy war, a federal prosecutor told jurors yesterday in U.S. District Court in Toledo. Gregg Sofer, a U.S. Justice Department attorney, said in his closing argument that the defendants - Mohammad Amawi, Marwan El-Hindi, and Wassim Mazloum - were enthusiastic participants in forming a terror cell to wage war against American soldiers in Iraq. The trial for Mr. Amawi, 28; Mr. El-Hindi, 45, and Mr. Mazloum, 26, on terrorism-related charges ended Friday 6/13/2008 with convictions for all 3 men.

Up next to stand trial are the final 2 members of this Toledo terror crew the radical cousins Zubair A. Ahmed, age 27, who had resided at 3504 Green Bay Road, Apartment 309C, North Chicago, Illinois, and his cousin, Khaleel Ahmed, age 26, who had resided at 4501 N. Keystone Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. Both are U.S. citizens. On or about February 21, 2006, ZUBAIR and KHALEEL communicated by telephone. ZUBAIR advised KHALEEL, in part and in substance, that he had heard a radio report of the arrest of Separately Indicted Co-Conspirator A (in Toronto), and others (the 3 on trial Toledo). ZUBAIR told KHALEEL, in part and in substance, that Separately Indicted Co-Conspirator A (in Toronto) could have gotten them in big trouble.

Canadian Security Intelligence Service first caught wind of a possible cell after a tip from British authorities, who had been monitoring the Internet movements of Younis Tsouli - a.k.a. "Irhabi 007" - a London man accused of operating a series of al-Qaeda-linked websites. Officials believe Tsouli was using one of his chat rooms to communicate with radical recruits in Toronto and Atlanta. The London court was told that he and his codefendants Waseem Mughal, 24, and Tariq al-Daour, 21, had close links to al-Qaeda in Iraq and posted videos, see one here, of its attacks on coalition forces and the beheading of Western hostages. “A lot of the funding that the brothers are getting is coming because of the videos. Imagine how many have gone after seeing the videos. Imagine how many have become shahid [martyrs].”
Syed Haris Ahmed and Ehsanul Sadequee in Atlanta GA are members of al-Muhajiroun and had been linked to the two radical cousins in Chicago Zubair A. Ahmed, age 27, who had resided at 3504 Green Bay Road, Apartment 309C, North Chicago, Illinois, and his cousin, Khaleel Ahmed, age 26, resides at 4501 N. Keystone Avenue, Chicago, Illinois.

Police believe the suspects in the alleged bomb plot in Toronto (and Atlanta) may have been part of a growing trend of cyber-jihadism. Canadian authorities estimate there are as many as 4,500 jihadist websites, and they've become the main networking tool for radicals. It is uncensored terrain and authorities say it is growing fast. There are calls to arms, even step-by-step instructions, from how to make an explosive, see video here, to where a suicide bomber should stand in a crowded bus for maximum impact.

June 2, 2006: Four hundred anti-terrorism authorities led by the RCMP raid neighbourhoods and a warehouse in and around Toronto, arrest ten adults and five underage youths. The adults, are Fahim Ahmad, Zacharia Amara, Asad Ansari, Shareef Abdelhaleem, Steven Chand, Amin Mohamed Durrani, Ahmad Ghany, Qayyum Abdul Jamal, Jahmaal James, Saad Khalid. Mohammed Dirie and Yasim Abdi Mohamed, also charged, are already in jail serving time for smuggling weapons into Canada from the U.S. in August 2005. (see a CBC.ca photogallery of the raid)
