Ron DeSantis seems to have an answer for out of control protests (riots) by BLM members and ANTIFA thugs in Florida. State Defense Forces or State Guards are paramilitary units that operate under the sole authority of a state government like Ron Desantis. The press secretary of Gov Ron DeSantis welcomed 'shooter' Kyle Rittenhouse to Florida in November and wished the Illinois-native an enjoyable stay. A jury found Rittenhouse not guilty in the fatal shooting of two men during a racial riot in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last year. In a picture tweeted by DeSantis press secretary Christina Pushaw, Rittenhouse is seated in a tiki-themed restaurant alongside others. State defense forces are authorized by state and federal law and are under the command of the governor of each state. “We want to be able to have a quick response capability and re-establishing the Florida State Guard will allow civilians from all over the state to be trained in the best emergency response techniques and have the ability to mobilize very, very quickly,” DeSantis said. In 1941, the Florida Legislature and Florida Governor Holland created the Florida Defense Force, later to be rebranded as the Florida State Guard.

The purpose of the state defense forces, including the FSG, was to fulfill the National Guard's state obligations. This included guarding infrastructure, protecting against sabotage, calming riots, or aiding law enforcement. State defense forces are authorized by the federal government under Title 32, Section 109 of the United States Code. DeSantis spokesperson Christina Pushaw tweeted that state law allows the governor to maintain a military force to "assist the civil authorities in maintaining law and order, such as putting down a riot."

The Florida State Guard was initially set up in 1941 during WWII to protect the homeland as most military age men were fighting in Europe or the Pacific, this included the National Guard. The Florida State Guard 'soldiers' were trained in riot control and were issued rifles, hand grenades, riot shotguns and gas masks. While unveiling a 2022 budget wish list for the state’s armed forces this week, the governor said he wants to revive the long-dormant Florida State Defense Force, a World War II-era creation from President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Administration. DeSantis said he is asking the state Legislature for $3.5 million to reactivate the guard and train some 200 volunteers who would supplement the state’s quick responses during emergencies such as hurricanes (and riots). Gov. DeSantis, who has frequently clashed with the Biden administration in recent months, noted a state guard was "not encumbered by the federal government."

Ron DeSantis is reportedly proposing “anti-mob” legislation that would expand the state’s Stand Your Ground law to allow armed citizens to defend themselves against violent rioters and looters, according to CBS4 News partner the Miami Herald. The Stand Your Ground law protects those who kill someone if they’re in fear for their lives but this proposed legislation would expand the use of force justifications. Those who oppose it say expanding the law could will give armed people the legal right to fatally shoot suspected looters, or anyone damaging a business. This new push is reportedly in response to police brutality protests that happened in Florida and across the nation this year.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is advising the public that Clarence Jay Fry, DOB 10/23/52, has registered as a Sexual Offender temporarily living in Sarasota County. Fry was convicted in 2011 in Michigan of Second Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct (rape) and Kidnapping.  

Clarence Jay Fry was sentenced to one year of confinement (prison) followed by five years of probation. He is visiting Sarasota County and reports he will be staying at 3443 Clarinda Street in Sarasota. Fry is not currently under the supervision of the Florida Department of Corrections, and because the offense occurred out of state, residency restrictions do not apply. This information is posted on the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office website, agency Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts to publicly notify citizens of sexual offenders and predators who register a Sarasota County address for the first time, when moving into the county or following release from prison.
