Brian Nichols was at war with the United States government and “all of the persons killed were employees of the United States government, there was no collateral damage” he claimed in a videotape confession played Tuesday detailing how he shot and killed four people during a 26-hour crime spree.

Nichols is setting the table for his temporary insanity defense, this dirt bag killed four good people in a matter of minutes, of all the cases that I have been involved with, he most assuredly deserves the death penalty !

Nichols, on trial for the March 11, 2005 killings of a judge, a court reporter, a deputy, and a federal agent, appears calm in the video as he sits at a table at Atlanta police headquarters on the afternoon of March 12, and talks for three hours with Atlanta Police Department homicide detective Vincent Velazquez, while sipping from a canned soft drink.

Nichols was then on trial on rape charges when he is accused of overpowering a deputy in a holding cell, then shooting and killing the Superior Court judge in his case, Rowland Barnes, and court reporter Julie Ann Brandau in Barnes’ courtroom, where Nichols was to appear later that morning.

Nichols said he was provoked to start the war by a “multitude of different things,” including the conditions in the Fulton County jail, and the prison system of Georgia where “prisoners are required to work for free… you really have no choice other than to work… it parallels significantly the treatment of slaves.” He said: “I felt as though I was a slave with them. As a soldier, I don’t feel like I committed any war crimes. There was no collateral damage.”

He described the way he overpowered female deputy Cynthia Hall, saying: I had to actually hit her a couple of times,” then he said he knew she was not dead. “I’m aware that she is going to pull through.” He explained how he cuffed Barnes’ staff and held them hostage until he slipped into Barnes’ courtroom during a civil hearing and killed Barnes and Brandau, shooting each once in the head with Hall’s pistol.

He said he killed Barnes because “at the time I thought of Judge Barnes as the Master. The slave master.” Barnes described the shooting of Barnes and Brandau almost clinically. “I engaged the target, which was Rowland Barnes,” he said. “And um, I engaged the secondary target, which was his court stenographer.” Nichols said he shot and killed federal agent David Wilhelm later that night at the Buckhead home where Wilhelm was doing tile work in a bathroom, because Wilhelm identified himself as a treasury agent.

He said Wilhelm pulled a gun on him: “I was able to take out the target, prior to him actually firing his weapon,” said Nichols. “He identified himself um, and I just, I was just quicker.” Later in the three-hour confession, Nichols says he doesn’t remember shooting court reporter Brandau. “I didn’t actually realize that I had shot her until there were reports on the news about that… I have no conscious recollection of conscious recollection of that.”

Murder defendant Brian Nichols asked his judge to prevent jurors from hearing evidence that he plotted an escape from the Fulton County jail. He also asked Superior Court Judge James Bodiford to bar testimony that the attempt included members of his defense team. The Connecticut woman, who had befriended Nichols, told investigators that he had asked her to buy a masonry saw, a circular saw and other tools to cut through a foot of cinderblock, according to law enforcement documents obtained by the Associated Press in January.

Mr. Nichols has no conscious, period, he is a mad dog murdering rapist and needs to be put to death. I had met and known Judge Rowland Barnes for a short period in the late 1990's and to put it simply Rowland Barnes was a good guy without malice towards anyone, for him to be shot and killed in his own Court Room is a great tragedy, R.I. P., Rowland. "I had known Judge Rowland Barnes for a couple of years in the mid 1990's when I lived in Panama City Fl and ran the WBI Inc Private Detective Agency there, what has happened here in Atlanta is a travesty of the Justice system, the Jury really tanks on this one, of all the people who commit and are convicted of murder, Brian Nichols deserves to die the most" !

Sudanese People's Democratic Front (SPDF) Area of Operation: South Sudan. A tribal organization known for its violent resistance to the Sudanese government, had signed an accord with the government to cease activities but became active after the government failed to honor pledges for an independence move for the southern part of the country in Dec 2007. On January 16 of 2001 the group announced they would be joining forces with the Sudanese People's Liberation Front (SPLA), largely Southern Sudan-based, non-Arabic and secular, in contrast to the predominantly Muslim and Arab north.

The Sudanese government accused Uganda and Eritrea of supporting the SPLA/M. In 1996 the US sent nearly $20 million worth of military equipment through Ethiopia (US Government is aiding Ethiopia in fight with Somalia Al-Shabaab), Eritrea and Uganda to help the Sudanese opposition in an attempt to overthrow Omar al-Bashir (president of Sudan). US officials denied that the aid was destined for the SPLA, but there were reports elsewhere that elite US forces (A-Teams) were working with the Sudanese rebel army. The Pentagon and CIA considered Sudan to be second only to Iran as a staging ground for international terrorism (al-Qaeda's home base in the 1990's was Sudan, Osama bin-Laden did a lot for Bashir's Government).

27 June 2008...The United States will continue to provide military aid to Kenya despite allegations that the army was involved in human rights abuses during the operation against the Sabaot Land Defence Force in Mount Elgon. Kenya is getting aid from the US government for it's military development and armament in the form of weapons in June of 2008 but some reason Kenya uses $30,000,000.00 in cash (or more) to buy a ship load of Tanks and AK-47's, RPG's and Anti-Aircraft guns from the Ukraine's State-owned arms dealer Ukrspetexport in September 2008, or did they ?

Arms experts wondered why Kenya would purchase Russian-made tanks since its previous suppliers have been the United States (in aid), Britain and China. Kenya's current tanks are British-built. "I'm not aware of Kenya using any [former] Soviet bloc weaponry before, so if they are, that's a major shift," said one arms expert in the region who did not want to be identified. Southern Sudan, by contrast, has been buying Russian-made tanks over the last year, officials said, including nearly 50 T-54 battle tanks. That deal drew attention in February when one shipment was briefly held up at the Kenyan port of Mombasa amid that country's postelection turmoil.

Major General Byor Ajang from the SPLA told the daily Al-Sahafa on Sept. 27th 2008 that the Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS) did not order any new weapons. “The SPLA did not have Russian weapons shipments that were on its way here through Kenya” Ajang said, (maybe not so much). So who actually purchased the Russian T-72 Tanks from the Ukraine's state owned arms trader Ukrspetexport for Southern Sudan through Kenya, could it possibly be the US Government which currently has about 6 US Navy Warships and a submarine surrounding the Cargo ship Faina ?

Kenya has repeatedly said the weapons on board the MV Faina (purchased from Ukraine's state-owned arms trader, Ukrspetexport) are for its army. A South Sudanese official said South Sudan had nothing to do with the tanks. The MV Faina is currently surrounded by warships monitoring the situation. Last week, the Somali government said the ship's owners were involved in direct negotiations with the pirates, who are demanding a $20m (£11m) ransom.

'Diplomatic embarrassment' A copy of the MV Faina's manifest given to the BBC appears to confirm that the contract was issued on behalf of South Sudan, although the Kenyan defence ministry is named as the consignee. Contract numbers for tanks, rocket-propelled grenade launchers and anti-aircraft guns contain the initials GOSS, which military sources tell the BBC is a reference to the Government Of South Sudan. Meanwhile, a Kenyan court has ordered the release of Andrew Mwangura, a spokesman for the Kenyan chapter of the Seafarers Assistance Programme, who had been arrested after he said the tanks were bound for South Sudan. Mr Mwangura was charged with making alarming statements and illegal possession of marijuana.

Last week, Western military experts told the BBC that the tanks on board the MV Faina were going to Sudan and that the shipment indicated an arms race between North and South Sudan had begun. The pirates want a $20m ransom for the MV Faina and its valuable cargo. They are reported to both be building up their forces ahead of a referendum on independence for the South in 2011.

The military experts, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said a previous delivery of tanks had taken place last November. Helmoed Heitman, Africa correspondent for Jane's Defence Weekly, also said he had reports that more than 100 T-72 and T-55 Russian tanks (follow the money) have been received by the southern Sudanese in recent months. "If these reports are true, they could change the regional military balance," he told the BBC.

"Kenya could be seen as playing the same role as Cuba did during the Angolan civil war - when they armed the MPLA." The experts said the tanks would most likely be dug in along Sudan's north-south border, with the tanks using their guns to protect military installations.

Terror emails tracked, 20 held for blasts, Mumbai India: In a major breakthrough, the Mumbai Police have solved the mystery behind the terror emails sent by the Muslim Indian Mujahideen (IM) before the Ahmedabad and New Delhi serial blasts. Police Commissioner Hasan Gafoor said here Monday that the three techies who had sent the emails have been arrested, along with 17 others who were responsible for a string of terror bombings in different cities.

Mohammed Mansoor, Asghar Peerbhoy, alias Munna (31), working as a principal software engineer in an MNC on a salary of Rs.1.9 million per annum ($40,174.00, 1 USD equals 47.3 INR); Salman Kadar Shaikh alias Mobin (24), working as a senior technical advisor in an IT firm; and Asif Bashiruddin Shaikh (22), a mechanical engineer.

Preliminary interrogation of all the accused in Mumbai has brought out the chilling revelation that they planned to carry out bomb blasts here during the ongoing Navratri festival, Gafoor said at a press conference telecast live by TV news channels. The initial breakthrough came on September 23 when five alleged terrorists owing allegiance to the Muslim IM were arrested in and around Mumbai.

Intelligence agencies suspect that the Muslim Indian Mujahideen IM was born out of SIMI leader Safdar Nagori's ambition to raise a terror outfit that was independent of the LeT, and more loyal to Mullah Omar of the Taliban group and Al-Qaeda. The Muslim IM generally selects educated Muslim youth. Mohammed Sadiq Shaikh, 30, who was arrested on Wednesday, is one such example. The act of sending terror emails minutes before the attack is their way of displaying how members are well-versed with technology, intelligence sources said.

In Muslim IM, every member has his own specialisation. Members include software engineers, electricians, graphic designers, hackers, planners, car robbers for the car bombs , bomb makers and co-ordinators. The hacker works on an IP address which is to be used to send the mails. As soon as the bomb is planted, the planter informs the hacker who sends the mail. The graphic designer is also assigned to use images of the destruction for publiction on the internet.

The emails were sent from three locations – the Sanpada suburb of Navi Mumbai, Khalsa College, Matunga, and a private company in Chembur, both Mumbai suburbs, using Wi-Fi (wireless networking) to send the terror emails. Among those nabbed in the operations carried out jointly with the police of different states are 10 Muslim IM activists who planted the explosives in Ahmedabad and Surat.

They had travelled from Karnataka to Pune and then to Surat and Ahmedabad with the explosives, Gafoor said. All those arrested are highly educated and are aged between 20 and 35. They were picked up from Azamgarh, in Uttar Pradesh, Pune in Maharashtra, in and around Mangalore in Karnataka, and from Kochi in Kerala, Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Rakesh Maria said.

The arrested men had revealed that they have been involved in all the bomb blasts in India since 2005, he added. According to Maria, the three software experts visited Mumbai five times prior to sending the blast emails and conducted a reccee of the Sion, Chembur, and CST areas and Sanpada in Navi Mumbai, where they could hack into wi-fi connections available in the neighborhoods. They were instructed to send the emails a few minutes before the blasts in Ahmedabad and New Delhi, which they did on the dot, Gafoor said.

The terrorists were financed through the 'hawala' route, Gafoor added. (see above post on Muslim Mafia Don Amir Raza Khan) Prior to the Ahmedabad blasts, the Muslim IM techies came from Pune to Mumbai in a blue Maruti Esteem vehicle and sent the emails using the Wi-Fi connection of the residential Internet of an American software professional Kenneth Haywood in Sanpada, Navi Mumbai. The crack investigating team soon established the following facts — 1) Kenneth Haywood’s computer had been hacked into and used to send the mail; 2) He worked for a technology company. This didn’t help much, till other facts began to emerge: Haywood’s company was a smallish affair that apparently helped local BPOs improve their staff’s English language skills and he himself was also a lay pastor linked to a small evangelist Christian organisation, Haywood was set up by the Muslim IM.

Mohammed Akbar Ismail Choudhary (28), a computer hardware expert who doubles as a driver, has also been nabbed, Gafoor said.The police said that unlike a previous group arrested Sep 24, none of the 20 now held are linked to the 7/11 Mumbai suburban train serial blasts of 2006.

The police also released a list of the 20 arrested men along with their antecedents.Among them are:
* Dastagir Feroze Mujawar (25), alias Afrosh, a commerce graduate who has been training youth in Jehadi activities,
* Mohammed Atik Mohammed Iqbal (25), a computer science graduate and an active member of IM terror modules,
* Anique Shafique Syed (27), who runs a computer and mobile retail shop and was actively involved in the Surat and Ahmedabad blasts,
* Majid Akthar Shaikh (26), who runs a mobile phone repairs and servicing shop and is an active member of IM terror modules,
* Yasir Anis Syed (20), alias Huzefa, runs a computer and mobile repairing shop, active member of IM and accused of criminal conspiracy,
* Syed Mohammed Naushad, (25), alias Sayedna, a civil works contractor based in Mangalore who was involved in planting the Surat bombs,
* Javed Mohammed Ali, (19), an Islamic studies scholar active with IM terror modules,
* Farooq Sharifuddin Tarkash (25) alias Abdullah, a computer science graduate, member of IM terror modules and was trained by Riyaz Bhatkal in Karnataka.
* Mohammed Ali Ahmed, (44), a civilian works contractor from Mangalore, who also runs a safe house for IM members,
* Ahmed Bawa Abubakar (33), alias Abu, a farmer by profession, nabbed for his role in Surat and Ahmedabad, and
* Faisal-e-Rehma Muskhan Durrani (23), a robber on police records, also involved in Surat and Ahmedabad.

Maria announced that in the second round of arrests, the police recovered 10 kg of explosives, one submachine gun, two revolvers, six detonators, two wireless sets, Wi-Fi and RF signal detectors, sleep inducing injections and sleeping tablets, five laptops, six CPUs, three pen-drives and other related hardware.

FOUR suspected terrorists appeared in court over threat to kill Gordon Brown. Ishaq Kanmi, 22 Ilyas Iqbal, 21 Abbas Iqbal, 23 and 24-year-old Muhammad Ahmed are charged with a string of offences including soliciting the Prime Minister's murder.

Kanmi, of Cromwell Street, Blackburn, is charged with soliciting murder and being a member of al Qaida. He is alleged to have posted a message on a website www.ek-ls.org (WWW.AL-EKHLAAS) (which appears to be now shut down for the fourth time this year), encouraging readers to murder Mr Brown and former PM Tony Blair, on January 2 this year.

Ilyas Iqbal of Percival Street, Blackburn, is accused of owning terrorist material and researching terror. Brother Abbas is charged with owning terrorist material and spreading terrorist literature. Ahmad, 24, of Whalley Range, is accused of possessing terrorist material such as camouflage clothes and plans for 'urban combat'. The white Muslim convert is a father-of-one who works in Boots.

All four men spoke only to answer to their names at Woolwich Crown Court and were remanded in custody today . A fifth man, 29-year-old Krenar Lusha, 29, of Moore Street, Derby, has also been charged in connection with the plot. He is accused of possessing bomb-making recipes and 4kilos of potassium nitrate - a critical component in gunpowder, and also faces four charges of possessing instructions on how to make bombs. Judge Mr Justice David Calvert-Smith set a provisional date for a plea and case management hearing of January 5. The suspects were held after an investigation into threats posted on an Islamic militant website in January by a group calling itself al-Qaeda in Britain. The swoop was said to be the culmination of a counter-terrorism operation between Lancashire Police and Greater Manchester Police's Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU).

Greater Manchester police confirmed yesterday that HL Plastics, in Derby, was visited by officers, although they refused to comment on the reason for their inquiries (It appears that . A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We attended the factory as part of our inquiries, but no search was carried out." She said she could not say more about the visit to the firm in Denby Hall Business Park.

A statement issued by HL Plastics last night said: "We can confirm Greater Manchester police officers made some inquiries at our factory."The company also said it could not comment further on the matter. But sources close to the Telegraph said the raid was part of an ongoing investigation into a plot to kill Gordon Brown, which has led to five arrests, including one in Normanton.

"Our job was to go find him, capture or kill him, and we knew the writing on the wall was to kill him because nobody wanted to bring Osama bin Laden back to stand trial in the United States somewhere," the mission commander tells Pelley. In 2001, just 10 weeks after 9/11, he was a 37-year-old Army major leading a team of America's most elite commandos. He calls himself "Dalton Fury," and is the author of "Kill Bin Laden," a new book out this week.

"The idea was that if this all worked out Osama bin Laden would be dead, and no one would ever know that Delta Force was there?" Pelley asks. "That's right," Fury says. "That's the plan. And that always is when you're talking about Delta Force." Delta developed an audacious plan to come at bin Laden from the one direction he would never expect. "We want to come in on the back door," Fury explains.

"The original plan that we sent up through our higher headquarters, Delta Force wants to come in over the mountain with oxygen, coming from the Pakistan side, over the mountains and come in and get a drop on bin Laden from behind." But they didn't take that route, because Fury says they didn't get approval from a higher level. A federal judge today sentenced a Dearborn restaurant cook to 8 months in prison for e-mailing death threats to conservative TV commentator and blogger Debbie Schlussel.

“I find it abhorrent,” U.S. District Judge Marianne Battani told Mohamad Fouad Abdallah, 40, of two e-mails he sent to Schlussel one minute apart in August 2006. Schlussel, who lives in Oakland County, is an outspoken critic of what she calls government tolerance of Islamic extremists in the United States. She told Battani that the e-mails, in which Abdallah used sexist and Anti-Semitic remarks against her and threatened to rape and blow her up, had caused her to fear for her safety and become somewhat of a hermit.

The e-mails were prompted by views she expressed on her Web site, www.debbieschlussel.com, about prominent members of Metro Detroit’s Islamic community.

She urged Battani to sentence Abdallah to the maximum 12 months in prison on the misdemeanor charge — interfering with Schlussel’s federally-protected activities. He pleaded guilty in June.

One of the e-mails said Hizballah, a Lebanese group that the U.S. State Department has designated a terrorist group, “is awesome.” Abdallah, breathing from an oxygen tank, told Battani he was ashamed of what he had done and that he has suffered health problems ever since. Schlussel called the oxygen tank a prop and accused him of trying to gain sympathy from the judge. Battani ordered Abdallah to undergo mental health and diversity training after getting out of prison. She lectured him about teaching fear, murder and intolerance to his 9-year-old daughter.

LONDON (Reuters) - U.S.-led forces said they shot dead a leader of al Qaeda in Iraq on Friday who was the mastermind behind a series of deadly recent VBIED car bombings in Baghdad. A spokesman for coalition forces said Mahir Ahmad Mahmud Judu' al-Zubaydi, also known as Abu Assad or Abu Rami, had been al Qaeda in Iraq's "emir" of the Rusafa neighborhood of the capital.

Mahir Ahmad Mahmud al-Zubaydi, allegedly directed the VBIED cell believed to be responsible for nearly simultaneous car bomb and suicide attacks Thursday 10/02/08, according to the statement.

VBIED Suicide bombers struck Shi'ite worshippers as they gathered for prayers at two mosques in Baghdad to celebrate the Muslim Eid al-Fitr feast on Thursday, killing a total of 16 people and wounding nearly 60, officials said.

Al-Zubaydi was one of the most senior activists to be killed by American forces. His death would be a major blow to al-Qaeda in Iraq even as the group's recruiting efforts have been "severely curbed" by a decision of many Sunnis to join forces with the Americans in the fight against it, military spokesman Rear Adm. Patrick Driscoll said. "His removal from the AQI network will send shock waves through Baghdad's terrorist bombing networks," Driscoll said in the statement.

The military also blamed al-Zubaydi as responsible for several VBIED car bombings and mortar attacks in Baghdad's main Shiite district of Sadr City in 2006 and 2007, including a series of blasts that killed more than 200 people on Nov. 23, 2006.

The Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device" (VBIED) or suicide VBIED is the weapon of choice for al-Qaeda in Iraq and while the surge has pushed back the terrorists in Iraq the VBIED or car/truck bomb attacks have remained consistent and increased somewhat in Iraq. "They've gone to more spectacular systems (Dump Trucks loaded with explosives) that can inflict more casualties per attack, likely because they can't sustain high-volume attacks. So that shift to the car/truck bomb is certainly a distinctive shift that we've seen. So we have seen an enemy, I think, that has adapted, trying to be as productive as they can with the limited capacity that they're able to sustain ".

Al-Zubaydi also was believed to have planned and participated in abductions and videotaped executions, including one in which he is personally seen shooting one of four kidnapped Russians, according to the statement. The Russian embassy workers were abducted in June 2006 after an attack on their car in Baghdad's Mansour neighborhood. They were later killed, along with a fifth Russian.

NEW YORK — An appeals court in New York has overturned terrorism convictions that led to long prison terms for a Yemeni cleric and his deputy.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said Thursday that the cleric Mohammed Ali Hassan Al-Moayad (his ugly mug in photo above), and Mohammed Mohsen Zayed, can have new trials.

It said the convictions for conspiring to provide material support to Hamas and al-Qaida came after the men were deprived of a fair trial. The jury heard evidence that the defendants met with government informants in Germany in January 2003. One informant testified that al-Moayad had boasted of giving Osama bin Laden $20 million in the years before Sept. 11.

This came out in the Yemeni Sheik Mohammed Ali Hassan Al-Moayad case. He "helped funnel Islamist fighters to al-Qaida in Bosnia and Afghanistan.

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- An explosion inside a building at Brevard Community College on Wickham Road in Melbourne (see map) had bomb-sniffing dogs on campus Thursday.

UPDATE..Arrest Made In Brevard Community College UPDATED: 2:26 pm EDT October 3, 2008.Police have not released any information on the person arrested.

Melissa Pierce was watching a video in her second-floor International Studies class when it sounded like the building's elevator went crashing down in a free-fall.There could have been up to 537 students in the building at the time of the small blast. That's the number of students enrolled in 22 classes held in the building during the time of the explosion. BCC officials did not have actual attendance figures.

"Everyone looked around like 'what the hell was that?' " Pierce said outside of Building 7 -- a multipurpose facility -- at Brevard Community College's Melbourne campus hours after a small homemade bomb exploded in the elevator on the third floor.

The campus closed after the explosion Thursday, but will reopen today.
Police investigators and fire department officials continued searching the campus for clues and the possibility that other explosives remain. Melbourne Police spokesman Cmdr. Ron Bell would not confirm that a suspect was being questioned. "It's pretty scary," Pierce said. "It's weird to think that someone would do something like that."

The Melbourne Police Department said they received a report at 10:23am of an explosion in the elevator of the third floor of Building 7.

"I heard a very loud boom and then the sirens inside the building," eyewitness Nick Gow said. Crews evacuated Building 7, which houses classrooms and offices. All classes were cancelled for the entire campus. The Brevard County Sheriff's Office bomb squad was at the scene and was doing a sweep of the entire building before investigators could entire to determine the cause of the reported explosion.

Investigators said they don't believe the explosion was a result of an elevator failure, because it was still operating when they arrived. Reports of the explosion being caused by a pipe or acid bomb can't be confirmed until the bomb squad clears the scene, but investigators are convinced it was caused by an explosive device of some kind.

According to the Melbourne Police Department, several students were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and released.

Muslim Mafia Don Amir Raza Khan Runs Indian Mujahideen (IM) From Pakistan And Funded Through Hawala Channels And Stolen Cars.

The Mumbai police, who on Wednesday claimed to have achieved a break through in the cases pertaining to the serial blasts at Ahmedabad and New Delhi, also said that the dreaded Indian Mujahideen (IM) was being controlled from Pakistan by Muslim Mafia Don Amir Raza Khan and funded through hawala channels and stolen cars.

Investigators claimed the men were part of an Indian Mujahideen (IM) group which was involved in the serial blasts in New Delhi, Ahmedabad and Bangalore, the 7/11 Mumbai train bombings, the blasts on Shramjeevi Express, at the Sankatmochan temple and railway station in Varanasi, at Lumbini Park and Gokul Chaat Bhandar in Hyderabad, in a Lucknow court and at Gorakhpur. "Practically all" blasts since 2005, according to investigators.

Bombers travelled to Pak via Iran: Cops, Arrested IM members have been identified as Afzal Mutalib Usmani (32), Mohammed Sadiq Israr Sheikh (32), Mohammed Arif Sheikh (31), Mohammed Zakir Sheikh (28) and Sheikh Mohammed Ansar (31).

The Mumbai police named Amir Raza Khan, who is allegedly controlling the IM from Pakistan. Amir Raza Khan, according to the Intelligence Bureau, is a Muslim Mafia Don who used to operate from Bangladesh (and Dubai). An IB official told rediff.com that Khan shuttled between Bangladesh and Pakistan, and had linked with the Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami, which was responsible for the attacks at Hyderabad and Ajmer last year. His name first surfaced during the attack at the American Centre at Kolkata and since then he has been elusive.

It is further said that Muslim Mafia Don Amir Khan worked closely with two other HuJI operatives by the name Rasool Khan Party, a Mafia Don formerly based in Gujarat and Ahmed Patangiya who was also residing at the same state before fleeing to Pakistan. While Rasool Khan and Patangiya took care of operations and training, Khan was largely involved in funding the IM, according to the IB.

The arrest of Afzal Usman by the Mumbai police was the turning point in Wednesday's crackdown. Usman, according to the IB, was part of an organized crime gang and worked for Amir Raza Khan. Investigations by Mumbai Police had revealed that Usman played a key role in the Indian Mujhideen. He provided logistic support and also helped channelising the funds through hawala operations. Apart from this Usman also had stolen cars in Mumbai and supplied it to some Indian Mujahideen operatives. The police suspect that two of the cars stolen by him were used in Surat

The cops are now probing the links between the IM and HuJI. The IB says that Abdus Subhan aka Tauqueer, who has fled the country, had close links with Shahid Bilal, the commander of HuJI (South India operations). It is said that Subhan was in constant touch with Bilal (before he was killed) and this indicates the close links between IM and the HuJI.

NEW DELHI: Mumbai investigators have found evidence that organised crime groups could have provided logistics infrastructure for the Indian Mujahideen terror offensive. Based on information provided by the Intelligence Bureau, the Mumbai police have arrested Afzal Usman — a mid-level organised crime figure investigators believe arranged for the theft of four vehicles used as car bombs in the July 27 serial bombing in Gujarat.

Usman, investigators say, delivered two cars to Qayamuddin Kapadia, a Vadodara-based graphics artist who is alleged to have led the Indian Mujahideen cell which attempted to execute the bombings in Surat in July. Both cars were fitted with improvised explosive devices which failed to detonate because of the failure of the integrated circuit-based timing devices. Kapadia has so far evaded arrest. Ansari’s links with Islamist terror groups have long been known. His ideological radicalisation appears to have taken place while serving a prison sentence in New Delhi’s Tihar jail, where he met top Jaish-e-Mohammad operative Syed Omar Sheikh.

Funds raised from the kidnapping and extortion are thought to have helped build much of the infrastructure for post-2002 jihadism in India. Some believe that the proceeds from the kidnapping of Kolkata tycoon Partha Roy Burman, who was released after his family paid Rs. 3.75 crore ransom to Ansari through hawala channels, made their way through Syed Omar Sheikh to Mohammad Atta — the architect of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks in the United States.

APA-Nairobi (Kenya) The spokesman of the Kenya Seafarers Assistance programme, Andrew Mwangura, who broke the news about the Ukrainian ship hijacked by Somali pirates believed to be carrying military equipments, has been arrested by Kenya police on suspicion of having links with the buccaneers that are demanding a ransom of US$30 million for the release of the ship.

Local media reports confirmed on Thursday that the police arrested Mwangura on Wednesday night for allegedly issuing alarmist statements to the media over the hijacked ship, and the police are of the believe that he has connections with the pirates. A report issuedThursday by Roger Middleton for Chatham House said the millions being earned by pirates in ransom were already being used to pay for the war between the shaky Somali government and Islamic insurgents (Al-Shabaab), some of whom are on a U.S. State Department list of terrorists (Al-Shabaab). "The international community must be aware of the danger that Somali pirates could become agents of international terrorist networks (Al-Qaeda)," Middleton warned, but admitted there was no explicit evidence yet showing that ransoms had bought weapons outside Somalia.

Andrew Mwangura, who runs the Kenya chapter of the Seafarers Assistance Programme, was held at a police station in the Kenyan port city of Mombasa.

"We have been looking for him since yesterday, but we have finally have him. He has been too vocal on the media, we want him to share with us what he knows of these pirates," a police official told AFP.

"We just want to question him on a few issues. It appears he knows more on the ship. We want him to tell us about this southern Sudan controversy about the arms," added another official. Police said Mwangura was likely to be charged with making an alarming statement, a crime under the country's criminal procedure code.

"All I can tell you is that he is being investigated for issuing alarming statements. Those are the charges he is likely to face," said another official attached to the Criminal Investigations Department. Earlier this week, Mwangura said Kenyan authorities had gagged him for speaking to the media on the piracy saga.

For several years, the Mombasa-based Mwangura has been a vocal advocate for seafarers rights, revealing the fate of hijacked vessels, the state of the hostages and ransoms, if any is paid. Mwangura said 33 Soviet-type T-72 tanks as well as other military supplies aboard the Belize-flagged MV Faina, seized last week of the Somali coastline, had been headed to South Sudan and not Kenya.

Bahrain-based U.S. Fifth Fleet's spokesman later repeated the allegations, which have been rejected by Kenya, Sudan and Ukraine.The pirates have demanded 20 million dollars to release the ship, its cargo and 21 Ukrainians, Russians and Latvians in the crew - down from their initial demand of $35 million. The U.S. military has launched air strikes in Somalia and is known to have secretly sent special forces into Somalia to go after militants linked to Al Qaeda (Al-Shabaab).

Since the vessel was seized, the ship's captain had died of an illness, according to Russian media. Currently the U.S. warships and helicopters as well as other foreign vessels have blockaded the hijacked cargo ship, which is now docked at the Somali port village of Hobyo.
