'Deja Vu All Over Again' Another Horse Butchered For it's Meat in Palmetto Just Like 4 Years Ago. Sunday December 1st, 2019, ABC7 Writes: Deputies in Manatee County are looking for the person or people who stole a horse then slaughtered it in Palmetto. The sheriff's office says sometime between Sunday 5:00 p.m. and Monday 8:00 a.m., the suspects in this case forced their way through a locked gate onto the victim's property on the 5800 block of Buckeye Road and stole the thorough bred horse that was valued at $20.000. When the victim found the horse missing, she called the sheriff's office. Deputies and the victim searched for the horse, ultimately finding it dead in a nearby field. Deputies say it had been slaughtered for its meat. The time period for the butchering of this horse in Palmetto is the exact same M.O. as the butchering of the show horse 'Phedras De Blondel 4 years ago that was valued at least at $200,000. Both horses butchered between Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. to Monday from 6:45 to 8:00 a.m..

What kind of person works in the Wimauma Fl slaughter house where animals are stunned and then set upon by employees with sharp knives while still standing and alive? The same kind of person who butchered the horses alive in Palmetto. The suspects in the live butchering of the horses in Palmetto  must have experience in working in a slaughter house for large animals like cows, horses, pigs, like the large animal slaughter house in Wimauma Fl. Sheriff Dept needs to check out nearby Wimauma Fl, that's were the trail led 4 years ago in the butchering of a horse and the theft of two horses in 2013, just sayin. “I’m disgusted," said Carol Whitmore, animal advocate and Manatee County Commissioner. "I’m sure most of our community is going to be.” Whitmore is meeting with Congressman Vern Buchanan’s staff Wednesday to talk about elderly abuse and animal cruelty on the Suncoast.

FOUR YEARS AGO: Sunday October 25th, 2015... In a Scene Right Out of 'The Godfather' Movie a Champion Prized Show Horse Beheaded in Palmetto Fl butchered for it's meat. All four legs were cut off of him. I don't mean at the knee, I mean from the shoulder of the horse 'Phedras De Blondel' ," Steve Stephens said. Investigators believe the horse was slaughtered sometime between Sunday 8:00 p.m. and Monday 6:45 a.m. They believe the suspects slaughtered the horse for meat. "This type of thing has been going on in our state, not here though," said Dave Bristow with the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. Bristow said the penalty for this crime includes burglary, animal cruelty and even more charges potentially. "It's a horrible crime scene and obviously for the owner to have to go through this is just absolutely terrible," he added.

Palmetto, Florida -- The Manatee County Sheriff's Office is reporting that a show horse was found slaughtered on Sunday October 25th, 2015 in Palmetto. "Just dismembered him right there and just left his rib cage and his neck and head". The owner of Phedras De Blondel at Imperial Farms, Steve Stephens, said the horse, Phedras De Blondel, had just arrived in the United States recently after being purchased for $200,000. "Horrible...unbelievable," he said. His wife noticed their brand new horse was missing Sunday morning. A search led to a broken fence. Then -- the discovery.
In 2009, at least 17 butchered horses were found in Miami-Dade County, where officials reported a dramatic increase in the horse meat market. Activists at the time said the meat can cost anywhere from $10 to $20 a pound. Earlier in October, authorities in Palm Beach County raided three slaughterhouses and arrested six people in connection with the illegal slaughter and sale of horses. And in July, a three-year-old competitive show horse named Smart Amanda Whiz was found slaughtered for its meat. The horse had been led from its stall and taken far from the barn, where it was carved up so professionally that the authorities are investigating it as a case of animal cruelty carried out by an expert butcher for meat.“He had been filleted,” Ms. Stephens, the horse’s owner, said in a telephone interview on Monday. “The slices were so deliberate and so well done that the moment you saw it: This was a professional.” The discovery of the horse, named Phedras de Blondel, in a remote pasture near woods at Imperial Farms Equestrian Center added a new element in a string of recent crimes involving the killings of stolen livestock for meat in Florida.
No updates, no suspects, no persons of interest, no clues in the slaughter of the horse Phedras de Blondel sometime Saturday night after 8 p.m. or early Sunday morning before 7 a.m. on or about October 25th, 2015 at 10050 Gillet Road, from the surveillance photos above there had to be at least 2 or 3 men with a large pick-up truck working together to pull this off. Deborah Stephens reported her horse slaughtered on her property at the Imperial Horse Farm. Deputies arriving on-scene found a dead horse with large portions of meat cut from it and missing. "All four legs were cut off of him I don't mean at the knee I mean from the shoulder," said owner Steve Stephens. "They just left his ribcage and his neck and head." Authorities are investigating it as a case of animal cruelty carried out by an expert butcher for meat (most likely people who have worked in a slaughter house). WFLA TV Tampa Fl: Reward Grows to $50,000 with help from outside Horse Industry for information on who slaughtered the horse Phedras de Blondel in Palmetto Fl.
Richard Couto is an investigator with the South Florida Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. In South Florida SPCA's Richard "Kudo" Couto says he knows firsthand that there is a black market for horse meat. He even quotes prices -- a pound of horse meat might sell for anywhere from $7 to $20, with one recent report of $40 for a pound in Broward County. Do the math, a horse weighing over 1,000 lbs can be dressed out to about 600 lbs, that's $4,200 on the low end and up to $12,000 on the high end, the ultra high price in Broward County would make the killers a profit of $24,000.
