Homeless Ex-Con Lawrence Grampp and his Pit Bull Service Dog Champion Involved in Two Incidents Back to Back in Downtown Sarasota

UPDATE August 13, 2019...SARASOTA HERALD TRIBUNE WRITES— Champion, a brown pit bull, has been involved in two dog fights and five other police reports for barking or being aggressive in the last two months, according to the Sarasota Police Department. And the latest incident could be life-threatening for the dog known for wearing sunglasses. He belongs to a homeless man named Lawrence Grampp Jr., 34, who has had 25 run-ins with police since July 7 2019. Sarasota County Animal Services is working closely with the County attorney on plans to declare Champion “vicious,” according to Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kaitlyn Perez. As a result, the dog could be euthanized if it is involved in further offenses.....There's always more to the story in Sarasota. Grampp Jr., DOB 10/29/1984, is a career criminal who was run out of Tampa in March of this year. ABC7 News writes, Pit bull attacks dog in downtown Sarasota, dog and three people recovering from injuries. Video shows the mayhem that took place early Sunday morning, July 14, 2019. A pit bull attacking Fig, a husky mix, while Dana Laag and her boyfriend Alex Alfonso walked him in downtown Sarasota. Lawrence Grampp, a homeless man is the owner of the pit bull named Champion. Dana Laag says Fig suffered six punctured wounds. Both of them suffered minor injuries as well.

“While they were tryng to pry him off, I was bit on my pinky finger and Dana Laag was bit on her index finger trying to scoop Fig up,” said Alfonso. Both dogs were quarantined. Fig was put on a home quarantine while Champion was impounded at animal services, making sure they don’t have rabies. Fig’s owners were cited for not having tags for their animal while Champion’s owner was cited for having a nuisance animal. He was released back to Grampp earlier today because of his service dog status. “Florida state statute requires that after the rabies vaccinations have been proven that we release the dog to the owner,” said Lt. Paul Cernansky with Animal Services for the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
On Thursday July 11, 2019 at 11:02 pm, just 3 days prior to Lawrence Grampp and his Pitt bull dog bite incident on Sunday, Lawrence Grampp was arrested for disorderly conduct in front of Smokin' Joes Bar on Main St Downtown Sarasota his dog Champion was acting aggressively towards passersby.

Lawrence Grampp, DOB 10/29/1984, was yelling and cursing at the patrons of Smokin' Joes bar, his large Pitt bull dog Champion was barking loudly and acting aggressive to citizens walking by, Lawrence Grampp was put in handcuffs and taken to jail.
ARE PIT BULLS DANGEROUS DOGS?  WFLA Tampa writes, Police say a woman was mauled to death by her two pit bull terriers as she tried to feed them at a veterinary clinic where the dogs were in quarantine for a prior attack. Irving police say 33-year-old Johana Villafane of Irving was pronounced dead Saturday at a Dallas TX hospital. The aggressive pit bull dogs prevented medical personnel from quickly reaching Johana Villafane. A police officer shot and killed both animals and the woman was taken to a hospital where she died.
