Dumb and Dumbest: Sarasota County Sheriff Deputy arrested ex-con Justin Richardson for Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon after he accidentally shot himself with a stolen gun

Dumb and Dumbest: Sarasota County Sheriff Deputy arrested ex-con Justin Richardson for Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon after he accidentally shot himself with a stolen gun. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Port Charlotte man with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon after he accidentally shot himself with a stolen gun. Deputies responded to the 100 block of W. Green Street in Englewood just before 6:00 p.m. on June 18, for the report of a shooting. When they arrived on scene, deputies found Justin Richardson, DOB 11/03/80, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Through investigation, detectives learned Richardson was attempting to disassemble the handgun when it discharged. The weapon was recovered at the scene and later determined to be stolen. Richardson, of 14100 W. Chesswood Lane, is charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He was taken into custody today in Lee County. Richardson and has more than 40 prior arrests and ten felony convictions. He was released from prison in January 2018.
Wear, faulty assembly, damage or faulty design of the firearm can cause it not to function as intended. For instance, a safety may have been worn down to a point where it is no longer functioning. Broken or worn parts in the trigger, sear or hammer/striker may have given the firearm a "hair trigger" (a very sensitive trigger). A dented or bent body of the firearm may cause jams or premature discharge of ammunition. Sensitivity to impact may cause a firearm to discharge if dropped or struck against another object.
