EASTER SUNDAY: Sri Lanka Muslim Terrorist Group NTJ Planned to Target Churches with Suicide Bombers at Least 200 Dead Today! I have posted articles all during the Catholic Holy Week indicating that terrorism was behind multiple church burnings in France and now today the ultimate has taken place with suicide bombers in Sri Lanka. The
local radical Muslim group National Thowheeth Jama’ath (NTJ) with links to ISIS eyed as being responsible.
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — At least 160 people were killed and hundreds more hospitalized from injuries in near simultaneous blasts that rocked three churches and three luxury hotels in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, a security official told The Associated Press, in the biggest violence in the South Asian country since its civil war ended a decade ago. An official told AP that two of the blasts were suspected to have been carried out by suicide bombers. News agency AFP says it has seen documents that show that Sri Lankan police have been on the alert for several days, fearing that suicide bombers from a local radical Muslim group, the National Thowheeth Jama’ath (NTJ) who are linked to ISIS were targeting prominent churches. A number of Sri Lankan Muslims were known to have joined ISIS in Syria, according to Reuters.
Two of the blasts were suspected to have been carried out by suicide bombers, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak with reporters. Worshippers and hotel guests were among the dead, the official said. AP reports that explosions also occurred in St. Sebastian’s Church in Negombo, a town north of Colombo that is home to many Catholics, and in the eastern town of Batticaloa at the Zion Church. A priest at St. Sebastian’s Church told CNN that the ground there was covered in glass and rubble and shattered glass. “You can see pieces of flesh thrown all over the walls,” he said. Sri Lanka’s Minister of Economic Reforms and Public Distribution, Harsha de Silva, said he had been at St Anthony’s Shrine, and described “Horrible scenes. I saw many body parts strewn all over.” Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo, called on Sri Lanka’s government to launch a “very impartial strong inquiry” and to punish those found responsible “mercilessly because only animals can behave like that,” AP said.
NEWSWEEK: 3/21/2019. France has seen a spate of attacks against Catholic churches since the start of the year, vandalism that has included arson and desecration. Vandals have smashed statues, knocked down tabernacles, scattered or destroyed the Eucharist and torn down crosses, sparking fears of a rise in anti-Catholic sentiment in the country. Last Sunday, 3/17/2019, the historic Church of St. Sulpice in Paris was set on fire just after midday mass on Sunday, Le Parisien reported, although no one was injured. Police have concluded that the fire was the result of arson and are now looking for possible suspects. The restoration of the church from the damage caused by the fire will reportedly cost several hundred million euros.
In February 2019, 10 churches in France were attacked in one week, causing some to fear increasing religious tensions in the migrant-friendly country. The attacks, allegedly sponsored by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, saw 5 churches vandalized, attacked, or damaged in a one week span. Roman Catholic publication La Croix International first reported that four churches were vandalized in a week period in February. The first church to be vandalized was in Houilles, France on February 4 at the church of St. Nicholas, where a statue of Mary was found broken into pieces.
