The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is looking for a sex offender charged with molesting a 3-year-old. Ronald Correa, 39, was accused of inappropriately touching the child of a family he was staying with. A registered sex offender, he did not let law enforcement know of this temporary address, violating sex offender requirements. Deputies obtained warrants for Correa's arrest on charges of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation on a child under 12 years old, as well as Failure to Notify within 48 hours of a temporary residence. When they went to arrest him, he was not at his residence. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding Correa’s whereabouts to contact the Criminal Investigations Section at 941.861.4276 or 941.861.4928. If you come into contact with Correa, call 911 immediately. Citizens can also submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers of Sarasota by calling 941.366.TIPS or online at SarasotaCrimeStoppers.com. Correa was designated a sexual offender in 2003 when he was convicted of Sexual Battery on a Child in Seminole County.
In 2003, Correa was designated a sexual offender after he pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery on a child under 16 years old in Seminole County. Correa had initially been charged with 15 counts of sexual battery when he was arrested in August 2003, but when the State Attorney’s Office later filed formal charges, only four counts were filed. In August 2004, Correa took a plea deal in which he pleaded guilty to two counts of the lesser included offense of lewd and lascivious molestation. The State Attorney’s Office dropped the other two counts of sexual battery and Correa never served any prison time. Instead, he was sentenced to one year of house arrest followed by eight years of sex offender probation and his conviction was formally withheld from his record.
