Key West ISIS Soldier Harlem Suarez Convicted in Beach Bomb Plot To Be Sentenced April 18 to Life in Prison, I Profiled This Guy in July 2015

A Stock Island man deliberately tried to bomb a Keys beach in 2015 when he accepted a backpack bomb from men he believed were ISIS sympathizers, a federal jury in Key West decided on Tuesday. The guilty verdict came after about 1 1/2 hours of deliberations after a seven-day trial. Harlem Suarez, 25, testified Monday he was only playing along with the men he met online by posting calls to arms for ISIS. His attorney called the case entrapment. Prosecutors, though, told jurors Suarez went to great lengths, taking actions that led toward setting off a backpack bomb at a Keys beach, including obtaining the bomb and making a video to recruit new ISIS members. “He willingly took possession of a bomb,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc Anton said during the government’s rebuttal, which followed the defense’s closing argument Tuesday. “We’re not talking about some drugs. He took possession of a bomb.” Sentencing is set for April 18 at the federal courthouse in Key West. Read more here:
July 4, 2015.... ISIS inspired terrorist Harlem Suarez was planning to blow up a Key West Fl beach on the 4th of July and shoot beach goers with a AK-47 as they fled to their cars in the parking lot. Could this terror plot still be in play with other bad actors from ISIS, most likely yes. According to the FBI, Suarez recorded a video in May in which he said: “We will destroy America and divide it into two. We will raise our black flag on top of your White House and any president on duty.” WFLA TV Tampa FL…Key West ISIL supporter planned to detonate backpack bomb, says FBI. MIAMI, Fla. (WFLA) – A Florida man who authorities say is a supporter of the terror group ISIL, is accused of attempting to make a backpack bomb that he allegedly planned to bury on a Key West beach. Harlem Suarez, also known as Almlak Benitez, 23, of Key West, Florida, was charged on Monday with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction against a person or property within the United States.
Suarez came to the attention of the FBI after a person contacted the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office in April and said that someone named Almlak Benitez tried to friend him on Facebook and recruit him to join ISIS. At that point, undercover agents made contact with Suarez. The criminal complaint states Suarez told an undercover FBI informant that he wanted to make a “timer bomb.” “Suarez discussed wanting to conduct a terrorist-style attack on or about July 4th, possibly in Marathon, Florida, or on South Beach in Miami Beach, Florida, or both,” states the complaint. Sarasota private investigator Bill Warner has worked on terrorism cases in the past. Suarez’ appearance makes Warner uneasy. “With the tattoos and short haircut, no beard, no mustache, clean cut and he goes to the beach,” Warner said. “Who would suspect he’s a terrorist?” PI Bill Warner said ISIL uses the Internet to spread its message and recruit members, and unlike terror groups before it who chose big, populous targets, the Islamic State is different. “These ‘Mooks’ are going after the low-key, little soft targets,” Warner said. “They go to the mall and shoot people, go to the beach and shoot people. How do you stop this?” see
