The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the homicide of 48-year-old David Morse, who was struck and killed by a bullet May 16, 2016 in the front yard of his Sarasota home. Detectives believe the bullet that killed Morse originated from the residence at 4632 N. Shade Ave. while a person was shooting a firearm at a wooden fence on the rear of the property. Several bullets were recovered from the scene, including the bullet that struck and killed Morse, two bullets that struck a residence in the 2000 block of Golf Course Drive, and two bullets as well as several .22-caliber shell casings in the rear lawn of 4632 N. Shade Ave. An initial ballistics report from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement indicated the bullet recovered from Morse’s body came from a .22-caliber weapon. Detectives collected two .22-caliber weapons from the residence at 4632 N. Shade Ave., including one purchased the day of Morse’s death. According to the ballistics report, FDLE is unable due to the condition of the bullet to “identify or eliminate” the bullet as being fired from the .22-caliber weapon seized from 4632 N. Shade Ave. This is an active investigation. Detectives are urging anyone with information to contact detective Dave Tuck at 941-861-4939.
From all accounts at least 5 people were at 4632 N. Shade Ave Sarasota Fl firing what appears to be at least three different .22 caliber weapons, long guns and handguns, at a THIN wooden fence in the backyard with no natural deterrent like trees or DIRT PILED UP behind the wooden fence to stop bullets from traveling into other people yards or passing cars. It also appears that the 5 people were drinking alcohol. There is really no ultimate safe gun range, fly overs can occur and so can ricochet shots, but shooting at paper targets on a THIN wooden 'privacy fence' in a residential neighborhood is just plain stupid, add drinking alcohol and you have a sure fire way to kill someone, and they did.
The 5 goofballs that were drinking and shooting up the neighborhood could be charged with “Accessories After the Fact” in a homicide investigation and ‘Go Directly to Jail’ if they know who hid the actual gun used to kill David Morse, but Todd Johnson isn’t talking nor will he tell investigators as to who was at the house at 4632 N. Shade Ave on May 15th, 2016 besides himself. First one to talk will probably get a ‘Get Out of Jail Free’ Card!
