CAIR Boss Ibrahim Hooper aka Gary D. Hooper says: "Neurosurgeon Ben Carson should withdraw from the presidential race for his comments that a Muslim shouldn't be president a prominent Muslim-American group said Sunday. "I think his remarks should be repudiated by everyone on the political spectrum and that he should withdraw," Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the nation's largest Islamic advocacy group, told the Washington Examiner on Sunday. He added that he is constantly dismayed by the "Islamophobia [exhibited] by the right wing of the political spectrum." However, Carson's comments go "way beyond the pale from anything I have heard," said Hooper. Hooper stated that if Muslims were ever to become a numerical majority in the U.S., they would likely seek to replace the Constitution with Islamic law (Sharia)"
Ibrahim Hooper aka Gary D. Hooper is the National Communications Director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). He has a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s of art in journalism and mass communication. Hooper has been with CAIR since 1994. As CAIR’s spokesman he appears frequently on national and international television programs to offer an Islamic SPIN on current events or debate controversial issues.

According to the Washington Post, Ibrahim Hooper was born to a Presbyterian family in Canada sometime toward the end of the 1950’s. An Islamic convert, Mr. Hooper’s name is listed in CAIR’s 2004 tax returns as Cary Douglas Hooper, likely the same individual listed in public records as born in January 1956. A media organization website provides the following biographical information: “Ibrahim Hooper grew up in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and a master’s in journalism and mass communications..... He worked for CBS and ABC TV affiliates as a news producer and field producer. His undergraduate work was also in history, focused on the Middle East. He has lived in and traveled extensively in the Muslim world.”
A USA Today articles states that Mr. Hooper holds an M.A. from the University of Minnesota. An Islamic publication adds the following detail about Mr. Hooper’s professional life: “He was Director of International Marketing and Advertising for Computerworld Middle East, and PC World Middle East magazines in Cairo, Egypt. He was a field producer for WCCO-TV news in Minneapolis MN. As noted above, Mr. Hooper became associated with CAIR at its inception in June 1994. Public records indicate he lives in Gainesville, Virginia, not far from the home of Nihad Awad. In a July 7, 2004 interview with BBC, Ibrahim Hooper aka Gary Douglas Hooper, CAIR's spokesman, defended Sheik Yusuf Qaradawi, a Qatar-based Muslim cleric known for his support for terrorism, as "respectable," adding: "I don't think there's any incitement of violence on his part." Qaradawi was an open supporter of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah, as well as groups targeting U.S. forces in Iraq. Qaradawi is barred from entering the U.S. because of his advocacy of violence.
