Terrorist Adnan el-Shukrijumah Joined Al-Qaeda in 1996 and was Playing Soccer At Islamic Society Sarasota Bradenton Mosque Prior to 9/11/2001, What the Hell?

During the time frame of March 2000 to August 2001 the Islamic Society of Sarasota Bradenton 4350 N. Lockwood Ridge Rd Sarasota Fl was home to Jihad Imam Muneer Arafat whose prior roommate in East St. Louis was Osama bin-Laden's Al-Qaeda procurement agent Ziyad Khaleel aka Ziyad Sadaqa aka Ziyad Khalil. Wherever Imam Muneer Arafat went his close friend and often roommate Ziyad Khaleel aka Ziyad Sadaqa aka Ziyad Khalil was not far behind. The short list of Muslims directly linked to terrorism who visited the Islamic Society of Sarasota Bradenton (ISSB) during the time frame are Jihad preaching Muneer Arafat, terrorist Wissam Hammound (in prison), Al-Qaeda leader Adnan El-Shukrijumah, Abdulaziz al-Hijji (who met with 9/11 hijackers in his Sarasota Home), Sami Al-Arian (arrested and jailed) and Mazen Al-Najjar (deported). FDLE documents stated that imprisoned terrorist Wissam Hammoud told the FBI in 2004 that Abdulaziz al-Hijji was an acolyte of Osama bin Laden who prior to 9/11 had introduced him to Adnan el-Shukrijumah at a soccer game at the Sarasota mosque, Islamic Society of Sarasota Bradenton 4350 N. Lockwood Ridge Rd.

“I often saw Adnan el-Shukrijumah hanging out with his Baluch friends at an open-air water faucet at the training complex in Shakar Dara,” said Okasha, a former Afghan Taliban commander who now lives near Islamabad. Shakar Dara is a village outside Kabul. The FBI’s assertion that Adnan el-Shukrijumah decided to join al Qaida’s jihad in the late 1990s and underwent training in Afghanistan in the use of weapons, explosives and battle tactics. Okasha said Adnan el-Shukrijumah trained under al Qaida for “a year or two” some time after the Taliban seized control of Kabul in 1996, at the same time as Okasha said he was undergoing advanced guerrilla training elsewhere in the complex.

Two retired militants, contacted by McClatchy for confirmation of Shukrijumah’s death, recognized him from photographs published by Pakistani news outlets after his killing. Both said they’d seen him in person during his training in Afghanistan in the late 1990s and again at a terrorist safe house in the western Pakistani province of Baluchistan between 2010 and 2012. Adnan el-Shukrijumah born in Saudi Arabia of Guyanese parents, Shukrijumah was raised in Brooklyn before moving with his parents to Miramar, northwest of Miami, where his father was imam at a local mosque. Adnan el-Shukrijumah studied off and on at Broward Community College but left home, apparently to join al Qaida in 1996.

Adnan El Shukrijumah last visited his parents in Florida in 2001, prior to the Sept. 11 attacks. His possible ties to the 9/11 hijackers, who also lived in South Florida, have been the subject of speculation for years. The timing of Adnan el-Shukrijumah’s ascent to a top al Qaida post is not precisely known. But the ex-militants provided previously unknown details of his activities in South Asia, where the militants said he relied heavily on the support of ethnic Baluch militants he’d befriended in the late 1990s while training at an al Qaida camp near Kabul, the Afghanistan capital.

The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia continues to correct the issue regarding the nationality of Adnan G. El Shukrijumah, who was reportedly killed this weekend by the Pakistani Army. Mr. El Shukrijumah was wanted by U.S. authorities on terrorism charges. In March 2003, the Ministry of Interior announced that Mr. El Shukrijumah was not, and never has been, a Saudi citizen, as has been incorrectly reported. His father, Gulshai El Shukrijumah, worked in Saudi Arabia for 27 years as an expatriate employee until 1986 when the family moved to the United States. He also did not have Saudi citizenship.
