14 years after the infamous St. Petersburg riots (1996), the remnants of racial tension still linger despite Midtown's seeming revival. One explanation behind this trend sadly indicts key leaders of a certain group within St. Petersburg's black community. Uhurus - or participants in the Uhuru movement - glibly refer to the events in 1996 as an "insurrection" rather than riots, implying that the arson and looting that destroyed many black homes and businesses was, in some sense, justified.

The Uhurus demand that American blacks not be subject to the same laws as all other U.S. citizens because they are black. In other words, the Uhurus condone the separate legal treatment of races, so long as it "benefits" blacks.  Article 2 of the African People's Socialist Party platform, for example, calls for the immediate exemption of all blacks from U.S. taxes.

The sixth article of the "African People's Socialist Party" calls for the immediate release of all "Africans" from U.S. prisons because, obviously, no black person in prison could possibly be there because he or she committed a crime.  The African Socialist Party's ultimate aim, however, is worldwide socialist revolution and the "onward progress of communism" to liberate black people everywhere.

Article Eight of the Working Platform of the African People’s Socialist Party explains this relationship the police have with the African community:  We want the immediate withdrawal of the U.S. police from our oppressed and exploited communities.
The African Peoples Socialist Party (APSP) run by Joe Waller, his photo above, is a revolutionary Black Militant organization whose supposed goal is to improve the living conditions of Black people in the United States and around the world, it runs the UHURU Movement. The Party was formed in May 1972 by the merger of three Black power organisations based in the US states of Florida and Kentucky. Joe Waller aka Omali Yeshitela, one of the original cofounders, leads the APSP as of 2010.

According to the APSP's website, asiuhuru.org, During the 1970's, the Party had made its main goals to keep the Black Power Movement alive (BLACK PANTHERS), defend the countless Africans locked up by the counterinsurgency [US law enforcement], and develop relationships with Africa and Africans worldwide. In September 1979, the Party founded the African National Prison Organization (ANPO) .

In 1981, the Party moved its national office to Oakland, California, USA, and opened the Uhuru house. The first Party Congress was held in Oakland in 1982 . At that Congress, the party passed the resolution to create the African Socialist International (ASI). The ASI seeks to be the "international party of the African working class." The ASI has activists, and has held Conferences, in various countries outside the United States.  In 1992 the party's national office moved back to Saint Petersburg, Florida.

ST PETE TIMES March 1st, 2011...ST. PETERSBURG — St Pete Police Officer David Crawford's Funeral, his photo above. Once again, law enforcement officers from all over the nation gathered with city residents at dusk to pay respects to a veteran St. Petersburg police officer who was killed in the line of duty. Monday night's wake for Officer David S. Crawford (killed by black thug "Lil Nick") at First Baptist Church felt chillingly familiar. Just one month ago, thousands came to the same church for the visitation and funerals of Sgt. Thomas J. Baitinger, 48, and Officer Jeffrey A. Yaslowitz, 39, who were killed Jan. 24 (by black thug Hydra Lacy).
