Michael Vick did time in the Federal Pen for setting up caged dog fights with out of control Pit Bulls fighting to the death.

BOSTON GLOBE; The disturbing appeal of ‘human dogfighting’, It’s been less than a decade since Senator John McCain called these fights “barbaric.’’ MMA is “not a sport’’ he argued in letters to all 50 governors, urging a total ban. What changed in so little time to move this brutal activity troublingly closer to the mainstream?

Michael Vick has been villified for his role in dog fighting. Obviously, dog fighting is cruel and should be stopped. And those promoting this awful use of dogs should be punished. But if dog fighting is bad, how can we support human fighting?

Commercials for Ultimate Fighting are juxtaposed with reports of Michael Vick’s required community service. How can we, as a humane society revel in human fighting, while recognizing the horrors of animal fights? Both short- and long-term risks from head trauma, etc. to fighter are substantial.

WEC WORLD EXTREME CAGEFIGHTING will do the same thing tonight, April 24th 2010,  with human Pit Bulls Jose Aldo and Urijah Faber.

"California Kid" Urijah Faber his photo above.  WEC 48 featuring Jose Aldo vs Urijah Faber is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 25th, 2010 at 8pm EST at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, CA and it should definitely be a good fight.

There will be two featured matches on the fight card which includes Jose Aldo vs Urijah Faber as Aldo tries to defend his Featherweight Title for the first time. He will take on the former Featherweight Champion in Faber a.k.a. The California Kid.

Jose Aldo іs а Braziliаn mixed martіal arts fighter who has a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and is making a name for himself as a knockout striker.

Urijaһ Faber is an American mixed martial arts fighter who previously won the WEC Featherweigһt Championshіp at WEC 19 back on Marсh 17, 2006. He managed to hold the title for οver two years until his lοss to Mike Brown at WEC 36 οn November 5, 2008.

WEC and MMA Caged Fights have got way out of control, there are basically no rules, you fight until one or the other is unconscious or one "Taps Out" due to a disabling hold that will eventually brake bones.

Newspapers and magazines, torn between ignoring a genuine phenomenon or further legitimizing it through coverage, soon fell in line. Sports Illustrated was among the first to yield to what its editor described as “an ironically ethical alternative to boxing.’’ In the tortured reasoning of Terry McDonell, “[Boxers] take so many head shots that they can end life with permanent brain damage. MMA may look more brutal, but the many ways fighters can strike, grab, punch and kick an opponent tends to mean less overall permanent damage.’’

The New York Times recently declared mixed martial arts a “mainstream sport.’’ The point was made within a truly bizarre account detailing how MMA fighters are turning to plastic surgery to alter bones and tissue so that when hit in the face they will be less likely to bleed.

Hey look, I have done my share of Boxing and Karate, I have been knocked out and I have knocked out others, I have been in several barroom brawls in my life (most recently at the "Beach Club" Siesta Key) and have lost the use of several finges due to a stab wound, but this MMA and WORLD EXTREME CAGEFIGHTING  is nuts.

I have been a long time fan of professional boxing, "Muhammad Ali Was the Greatest", but he never beat on a guy "after" the guy was unconscious and down and unable to protect himself, this MMA sport is crap.
