SATURDAY APRIL 3rd, 2010....Dudley UK Council said in a statement on its website: ''We didn't invite the EDL to our town and we don't want them here.'' Unite Against Fascism (UAF) held a peaceful protest in the town earlier today in an area which could not be seen from the rival demonstration. English Defence League (EDL) street terrorism in Dudley town centre.
Response to the EDL and UAF protests, John Polychronakis, Chief Executive at Dudley Council, said: All of the political groups on Dudley Council are united in opposing the English Defence League (EDL) protest in Dudley town centre.“We are extremely disappointed that Dudley was targeted by the EDL and are saddened to witness their public disorder and violence. This was not a peaceful EDL demonstration. “However, the council and the police recognise that the UAF’s event did pass peacefully, as intended.
“Dudley Council made it clear from the outset that it was opposed to the protest taking place and we worked closely with the police to do all we could to protect and support local people and local businesses. “We have worked hard with communities and partner agencies to manage the day as effectively as possible. We are saddened that local businesses and traders have had to bear the brunt of this EDL disruption, resulting in considerable loss of income. We share their frustrations and expect today’s event will cost the council a minimum of £150,000.
“We are disappointed with any public disorder and would have preferred it if the event had not gone ahead. However, all things considered, we are satisfied that the police operation, in close partnership with the council, was successful in controlling thousands of EDL protestors. “People from all communities across Dudley borough get on very well and we are grateful to our local residents for largely staying away from the protest and not being provoked by EDL extremists from outside of the area.”

TELEGRAPH UK NEWS...Violent clashes at mosque protest. TIMES OF LONDON....On Saturday, members of the so-called English Defence League fought police during an anti-Muslim march in Nottingham. This Sunday, a similar group, Stop the Islamisation of Europe SIOE, plans a demonstration outside a mosque in Harrow.
Such groups claim that they stand up for Western values, speak for mainstream society, and deserve the support of those worried by the threat of radical Islam. But in reality, they are the other side of the same coin: racists and extremists who represent a small minority of the communities from which they come.
Just as the anti-Muslim EDL and SIOE are racists who would expunge all who do not fit their supposedly native White Anglo-Saxon Protestant definition of English society, so Islamist groups such as Hizb ut-Tahrir would forcibly convert the rest of us to their version of Islam.
Both sides are on the fringes, and in normal circumstances are small enough to be isolated and ineffectual. But these are not normal circumstances. The Government pretends to make a distinction between Islamism, the political ideology that would forcibly convert unbelievers, and mainstream Islam, which is no more of a threat to Western society than the Quakers. But in reality it lumps almost all Muslims together, and in so doing does the dirty work for racist groups such as the EDL and SIOE. And in doing so they hand a propaganda vehicle to extremists such as the EDL and SIOE.
