12/03/09..NY Post;

Seattle cop killer Maurice Clemmons -shot dead Tuesday by a lone patrolman - drove to New York in June to see a Manhattan minister, declaring God told him to make the trip. He disturbed a June 13, 2009 prayer service, trying to rush the stage and yelling, and then approached Bishop Bernard Jordan at his gala 50th birthday banquet the next day.

"He said he was Jesus. I was kind of shocked," Jordan told the Daily News. "We said, 'If you keep talking like that, you will be locked up and put away.' I'm not a professional in mental health, but you can always tell when someone's nuts." Clemmons, 37, told Jordan he was running from the police, who wanted him for vandalism. He said he had driven for three days to New York because "God called me (Not Allah)."

The minister - who claims to be a prophet and runs a lucrative "cyber-ministry" on Riverside Drive - told him to go home and turn himself in. "I told him, 'I am sensing strongly that this is something you should do. You should not be on the run. You should get help,'" Jordan said. Clemmons, a devotee of Jordan's online chats, appears to have listened. Two weeks later, he showed up at a July 1 Seattle court hearing and was promptly arrested on charges ranging from vandalism to child rape, MORE FROM THIS SOURCE.................

"I am coming to your house," he said. "I have killed four policemen and I need a place to rest and hide." We know now who that was: Maurice Clemmons, the man who ambushed four Lakewood police officers Sunday morning, killing them all. But to Chrisceda Clemmons, 45, the voice on the phone Sunday night belonged to her nephew Maurice. Her sister Dorothy Mae's son. The kid she used to baby-sit back home in Arkansas. The man who seemed determined to succeed, but who had also started to lose his mind last May.

He was in a car, on his way to his aunt's Leschi home, where she lives with her husband, Michael Shantz, 58; their two children, Atticus, 13, and Juno, 7, and a friend's daughter, Alanna, 15. Shantz's two older sons, Ab, 25, and Teo, 21, who rent a house nearby, were also there. "He trusted me," Chrisceda Clemmons said. "He trusted that I wouldn't turn him in." But she did. And she was the only one. Other friends and family are accused of helping Clemmons escape the shooting scene, tending to his gunshot wound, washing his bloody clothes and keeping him out of law enforcement's reach. And there were allegations of child rape and "religious delusions," Shantz said, that included Clemmons' belief that he was God (Jesus Not Allah), and that swine flu was the apocalypse.

Now this. Four cops dead, and he was headed their way. "I was in shock," Chrisceda Clemmons said. "That's when we gathered the kids up and sent them away. I believed Maurice when he said he had killed people. I knew he was very angry and frustrated. He was paranoid, and he was very frustrated and sick of the police."

"Tired of these bitches (Cops)," is how he put it. He told her he had shot the officers intentionally, and believed that they were trying to charge him with rape, which would have given him "three strikes" and sent him back to prison for life. She asked Maurice if he was armed. Yes, he said. Shantz told him: "You cannot come to the house. Period." He asked Maurice if he was willing to get rid of the gun. No, more from this source.............

12/03/09..CBS News;Police said they aren't sure what prompted Clemmons to shoot the four officers, who were in uniform and working on paperwork at the coffee shop just two blocks outside their jurisdiction. "The only motive that we have is he decided he was going to go kill police officers," Troyer said. He said Clemmons talked the night before the shooting about killing a group of cops and watching the news.

Clemmons was released on bail just a week ago even though a psychological report in October warned that he was dangerous, Blackstone reports. He told psychiatrists he had "visualizations of people drinking blood and people eating babies." Police believe Clemmons chose the coffee shop because it was frequented by police officers from various agencies. Authorities in two states were criticized amid revelations that Clemmons was allowed to walk the streets despite a teenage crime spree in Arkansas that landed him an 108-year prison sentence. He was released early after then-Gov. Mike Huckabee commuted his sentence. Huckabee cited Clemmons' youth in granting the request. But Clemmons quickly reverted to his criminal past, violated his parole and was returned to prison. He was released again in 2004 (when he found Jesus and became a Christian).

Clemmons was charged in Washington state earlier this year with assaulting a police officer and raping a child, and investigators in the sex case said he was motivated by visions that he was Jesus Christ and that the world was on the verge of the apocalypse. A psychological evaluation conducted in October found he was a risk to public safety, but not a bad enough risk to justify committing him, The News Tribune of Tacoma reported.

The confidential report acquired by the newspaper was ordered by a Pierce County Superior Court judge to determine whether Clemmons was competent to stand trial on the rape and assault charges. He was found competent and was released from jail after posting bail with the assistance of Jail Sucks Bail Bonds. At the time of his arrest, he allegedly made "religiously-themed comments, told the officer President Obama and Lebron James are his brothers, Oprah (Winfrey) is his sister and referred to himself as 'the beast,"' according to the evaluation, more from this source........

12/03/09..Assoc Content APMike Huckabee Clemency for Maurice Clemmons at Center of Murder Spree; Mike Huckabee granted clemency to Maurice Clemmons in 2000, well before Huckabee became a national figure. But the Maurice Clemmons clemency may have now backfired on Huckabee, and on several innocent people, in the worst way possible. It didn't take long to find out that Clemmons was supposed to be locked away for 95 years - until Mike Huckabee's clemency.

None of the prosecutors were ever told why Huckabee felt compelled to have a hand in freeing so many prisoners, though all of them speculate that his deeply religious nature led to a strong belief in repentance and forgiveness. In some cases, prosecutors say, evangelical leaders attested that a prisoner had found Jesus (Maurice Clemmons) and that seemed to influence the governor's thoughts."

Criminal Court Records;
Maurice Clemmons acquired four felony convictions and a revocation of probation during a period from September 1989 to mid-February 1990, and all five of those proceedings became the subject matter of Clemmons's application for writ of habeas corpus in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District, in 1996. See Clemmons v. Norris, PB-C-96-19 slip op. at ____ (F.3d March 26, 1996). The circuit court made its foregoing findings and decision to grant post conviction relief based on pretrial events that occurred at Clemmons's burglary and theft trial held before Judge Floyd Lofton.

Clemmons's defense counsel, Llewellyn J. Marczuk, testifying at the post conviction hearing, related that, at the earlier trial, a security guard had reported to Judge Lofton that Clemmons had taken a hinge from one of the courtroom doors, hid it in his sock, and intended to use it as a weapon. The hinge was found and taken from him before he harmed anyone. In another incident, Clemmons extracted a lock from a holding cell, and he later threw the lock which hit his mother.
During this second episode, Clemmons purportedly threatened Judge Lofton. In a third incident, Clemmons reportedly reached for a guard's pistol duringhis transportation to the courtroom. Based on these occurrences, Judge Lofton placed Clemmons in leg irons and seated a uniformed officer near him during trial. This court upheld Judge Lofton's remedial actions in Clemmons. 303 Ark. at 267-269, 795 S.W.2d at 928-929.
