4 MUSLIM TERRORIST EX-CON’S MET AT NEWBURGH MASJID AL-IKHLAS MOSQUE WHOSE IMAM SALAHUDDIN MUHAMMAD IS NY PRISON CHAPLAIN.

The imam of the Newburgh mosque where the Bronx-plot terror cell was organized has worked for more than 20 years in the New York state prison system converting inmates to Islam -- and was hired by the radical Muslim chaplain banned for praising the 9/11 hijackers.

Imam Salahuddin Muhammad is the spiritual leader of the Masjid Al-Ikhlas, the Newburgh mosque where the four terrorist wannabes met. Muhammad also has worked as a prison chaplain at Fishkill Correctional Facility since 1985 -- where alleged Bronx terrorist James Cromitie was imprisoned in 1991.

PATH TO RADICAL ISLAM BEGAN IN JAILS; "He was not born Muslim. He's an institutional Muslim," said Richard Williams, uncle of Onta Williams, one of the four Bronx terror suspects. "He wasn't raised that way." Richard Williams said that his 32-year-old nephew fell under the sway of dangerously radical Islamo-fascists while serving time on drug charges -- and that he became "brainwashed in the NY State prison system.

Authorities say Onta Williams fell in with his three alleged co-conspirators, James Cromitie, 45, David Williams, 28, and 37-year-old Laguerre Payen, at the Newburgh Masjid Al-Ikhlas mosque, where they bonded when they discovered they were all ex-cons.

Laguerre Payen, 27, had served 15 months for assault and was supposed to be deported to Haiti. But an immigration judge stayed the order because Payen, a paranoid schizophrenic, was judged insane. "Waiting for him to be sane enough to boot out of the country? That logic is what's insane," said a law enforcement source. Payen lived in a filthy crack den where a friend Thursday said he saw bottles of urine.

All this happened when he became a Muslim in prison," said Onta Williams' uncle, Richard Williams.
