Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud Plots to attack Subway systems in Washington, New York And London..

LAHORE, Pakistan–Black-clad Pakistani commandos overpowered a group of militants who had seized the police academy, took cadets hostage and killed 12 of them of them Monday, 3/30/09, in a dramatic challenge to the civilian government that faces U.S. pressure to defeat Islamic extremists.

Mar 30, 2009 12 die in siege at Pakistani police academy, Pakistan's top civilian security official said militant groups were "destabilizing the country," and the plot originated with Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud.

Pakistan's most wanted militant, Baitullah Mehsud on Tuesday, 3/31/09, claimed responsibility for a deadly police academy assault and threatened to attack the US capital in retaliation for a series of air strikes.

Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud, for whom the United States has posted a five-million-dollar reward, said there would be more attacks after Monday's raid on the Lahore police training school which left 12 people dead.

"Very soon we will take revenge from America, not in Afghanistan but in Washington, which will amaze the entire world," Baitullah Mehsud warned.

For Pakistanis, the Dec. 27, 2007 assassination of Benazir Bhutto was the J.F.K. murder and 9/11 rolled into one, plunging the nation into days of mourning and setting off riots across the country.

It was a stunning victory for Pakistan's militants, who have increasingly turned their firepower against the state, conducting more than 50 suicide attacks in 2007 alone.

The government quickly fingered Baitullah Mehsud as the mastermind of the Bhutto assassination; he had previously threatened to kill her. The details of Mehsud's biography are sketchy, as he shuns publicity. He is known to be in his mid-30s and to lead thousands of militants, many of them Mehsud tribesmen, in Waziristan, a tribal region on Pakistan's border with Afghanistan.

In his first television interview, conducted by al-Jazeera last year, Mehsud said his ultimate aim is to attack New York City and London. This was more than mere rhetoric.

In January 2008, Spanish police said a cell of Pakistanis they arrested in Barcelona were planning subway system suicide operations in Spain and possibly elsewhere in Europe.

They had been dispatched by Baitullah Mehsud, so now we can add another name to the list of Islamist terrorists with global reach.

I have written extensively on the terror threat to the NYC subway system and have done my own surveillance on what possible vunerable locations still exist, The NYPD does a terrific job in keeping NYC safe, the undercurrent of an impending terrorist attack, attributed to members of al-Muhajiroun underscores the need for increased surveillance and tactics to deter those who intend to inflict mass causalities in the Manhattan area.

01-19-2008, 09h54 MADRID (AFP) Spanish police find explosive material in Barcelona sweep: 14 terror suspects held as Spanish police raid mosque, Subway System was Target. Police raided the Torek Bin Ziad Mosque, Barcelona. Those arrested on suspicion of planning a attack on the city’s public transportation system (Subways) had intended to carry out suicide bombings.

Police confiscated material for making bombs, including four timing devices. Local news reports said the police had also taken phone records from the mosques and bakery.

Photographs of material found in the raids included the timing devices, a small bag of ball-bearings, batteries and cables". According to court documents, the Barcelona group was led by Maroof Ahmed Mirza, 38, and Mohammad Ayud Elahi Bibi, 36, both Pakistanis and the members most well versed in Islam. Hafeez Ahmed, 39, a Pakistani who spent five months in Pakistan last year, was alleged to be in charge of making and handling explosives.

Spains Guardia Civil investigators are operating under the assumption that the group may have been rehearsing an attack. The court accused Mohammad Shoaib, 25, and Mehmood Khalid, 27, both Pakistanis, and Imram Cheema, whose age and nationality were not given, of being the potential suicide bombers. It said they came in recent months from Germany, Sweden and Portugal, dispatched by Baitullah Mehsud.

For years, figuring out how to deliver a combination of chemicals as a gas has been something of a holy grail for terrorists, especially in the US subway systems....Al-Mubtakkar means "invention" in Arabic, "the initiative" in Farsi. The device is a bit of both. It's a canister with two interior containers: sodium cyanide is in one; a hydrogen product, like hydrochloric acid, in the other; and a fuse breaks the seal between them.

The Al-Mubtakkar fuse can be activated remotely--as bombs are triggered by cell phones--breaking the seal, creating the gas, which is then released. Hydrogen cyanide gas is a blood agent, which means it poisons cells by preventing them from being able to utilize oxygen carried in the blood, not something you would want dispersed in an underground subway system,
