Fifth suspect arrested over 'Islamic internet plot to kill Gordon Brown', follows white Muslim convert Mohammed Ali, al-Qaeda site was hosted in Tampa

A fifth person has been arrested in connection with threats to kill the PM Gordon Brown which were posted on the Islamic site http://www.al-ekhlaas.net/forum/ hosted in Tampa Fl.

A Derby man is being questioned by cops in the plot.

The latest arrest follows that of a white Muslim convert, named locally as Mohammed Ali, who was seized in a dawn raid at his flat above a butcher's shop in Blackburn on Tuesday.

One of the terror suspect held over threats to kill Gordon Brown has allegedly had contact with Osama Bin Laden’s deputy. Cops are thought to be probing an internet message he allegedly sent to Ayman Al-Zawahiri on the website www.al-ekhlaas.net/forum , the al-Qaeda No2, who dreamt up the 9/11 atrocities.

One chilling section – seen by The Sun – read: “Is the British Muslim allowed to kill British civilians, whether they are nonbelievers or Muslims who support the war against Afghanistan, Iraq and others?” Another asked Al-Zawahiri if jihad was an “obligation” for Muslims in Britain. The notes were sent on the www.al-ekhlaas.net/forum by a man calling himself Sheikh Umar Rabie, who bragged he was al-Qaeda’s leader in the UK.

A source close to the investigation said last night: “The links between those arrested and Umar Rabie are central to this. Any attempted contact between Rabie and known extremists on www.al-ekhlaas.net/forum is significant.”

The threat to Mr Brown, posted January 24th on www.al-ekhlaas.net/forum , demanded the release of prisoners including hook-handed cleric Abu Hamza.

The fifth man's arrest came ten days after three other men were held by anti-terror police over threats to assassinate Gordon Brown and his predecessor, Tony Blair, on the al-Qaeda website www.al-ekhlaas.net/forum .

Before his arrest Mohammed Ali, 24, who is thought to have converted to Islam about four years ago, had told how he fell out with the two brothers because their views were 'too extreme'.

Anti-terror teams have spent months investigating the warnings on a recognised jihadi website,
www.al-ekhlaas.net/forum posted by a group calling itself 'Al Qaeda in Britain'.

The 'Al Qaeda in Britain' message with threats to kill PM Gordon Brown, written in English, appeared only briefly on January 24th, 2008 because the website http://www.al-ekhlaas.net/forum/ was shut down in Tampa Fl, USA on Jan 28th, 2008 by the Tampa Tribune and private investigator Bill Warner see story on Jihad Watch click here and then see follow up story in the Tampa Tribune click here . The same website www.al-ekhlaas.net/forum was then shut down in Phoenix Arizona on Feb 1st 2008 by the Arizona Republic Newspaper and private investigator Bill Warner, see story posted on Jihad Watch click here.

Twice the week of Feb 1st 2008, , al-Qaida websites have been taken off the Internet by Web hosts after being notified by local newspapers. An al-Qaida related site was shut down Monday by Tampa, Florida-based Noc4Hosts after it received a call from Tampa Tribute ( www.tampatrib.com ) reporter Howard Altman. Internet security specialist Paul Henry discovered the new al-Qaida encryption program hosted at http://www.al-ekhlaas.net/forum/

On Wednesday, Phoenix, Arizona-based Web hosting provider CrystalTech Web Hosting (www.crystaltech.com ) took down an al-Qaida website after being notified by The Arizona Republic (www.azcentral.com). The site was reportedly being used by al-Qaida to recruit car bombers, promote war on the West and provide a forum for Islamic militants to plot an assassination of PM Gordon Brown. The website, http://www.al-ekhlaas.net/forum/ , offers forum discussions about weapons, explosives and propaganda, often playing out like a resource for terrorists, reports The Arizona Republic.

The site contained video casts of an American tank being blown up, as well as messages from al-Qaida leaders and forums in which terrorist acts are openly discussed, says the Middle East Media Research Institute, a non-profit group in Washington, D.C. that tracks and translates Islamic websites. Both newspapers, the Tampa Tribune and the the Arizona Republic were alerted to the al-Qaeda websites hosted in their cities by Private Investigator Bill Warner.

The first three arrested in the internet plot posted on http://www.al-ekhlaas.net/forum/ are British-born Muslims of Asian origin (Pakistani).

The statement on http://www.al-ekhlaas.net/forum/ beside calling for the assassination of PM Gordon Brown, also demanded the withdrawal of British forces from Iraq and Afghanistan and the release of Muslim prisoners from Belmarsh high-security prison in London.

Following are the Al-Qaeda websites we shut down on Jan 28th and Feb. 1st, 2008 in Tampa Fl and Phoenix AZ that were posting the plot to kill PM Gordon Brown. The ones in Tampa were all the same Al-Ekhlaas Forum website with just different mirror-site variations, they all have the same IP address 206.51.236.135 . Al-Ekhlaas had to get a new IP address when they moved to Phoenix AZ. !
